Perhaps the dramatic decline of foreign mongers meant that not enough daytime action spilled over on to the beach to make sitting there waiting worthwhile. I personally think the city also subtly encouraged these working girls to move on.

I meet my buddy around 10 am and he's had a ball. He's left his girl at Hotel Sheik passed out. They've been through a bottle of vodka, yet he's still standing. If I was just choosing cities based on restaurants, I would choose Sao Paulo over Rio.

As far as por kilo buffets (pay by weight), the inexpensive restaurants keep it mostly to the popular basics. The slow-cooked meats, rice, beans and potatoes. If you seek variety, there are por kilos scattered around town with everything from Italian, sushi and decent desserts.

I don't see prices posted. How much for 1 hour.

I always carry my dried chili packets with me to spice things up. But I can't eat the same shit day in and day out.

In SP, I can have my variety which of course is more expensive but oh well. Eat good and live good!!

If you go to Ilha Grande I highly recommend Asalem for your stay. As mentioned before, bring your own woman. The Island is spectacular. The food at Asalem is superb. I would also recommend traveling to Angra dos Reis by shuttle. You take the ferry from there to Ilha Grande. Under no circumstances take the bus from Rio. I have had two nightmare trips via bus going from Rio to Angra dos Reis { Ilha Grande}. By nightmare I mean the toilets overflowed on the bus and it smelled like shit the entire trip. The facilities at the bus station en route where we stopped for a break were no better, Get the shuttle van. There are several.

Checked the pics for Asalem and the views are spectacular, but $200 is too much for a simple hotel room on IG. I paid much less for a 3 bdrm villa with a large pool, Jacuzzi, oceanview terrace, and, most importantly, right on the beach, I mean literally feet in the sand, there must've been no more than 100 feet between the gate and the water.

I like having that new guy perspective. He is exactly right. It took me over 20 years to realize it. I have been meaning to write about it in the General thread. If you like rice, beans, and shoe leather, then you have come to the right place.

I was at my girl's house in Sao Paulo last week and she was like well that is all I know how to make. I teased her and said why do y'all even have different restaurants since you have the same thing at all of them, which is the same thing y'all make at home everyday. Rice, beans (hell at least give me different kinds of beans instead of the same ones), french fries, tough ass beef in a pressure cooker, cut up chicken pieces in an oven, or breaded fried fish. She was like yeah you are right.

Then do not get me started on this feijoada stuff. You make beans everyday, but one day out of the week you give the people a treat by adding meat into the beans. Yippee!

Spices? Fuggetaboutit. Onion and salt are the only spices they need. Funny. Police chick that I used to mess with in Sao Paulo came to visit me in the States. I took her out to a hole in the wall spot where they have "real drinks." She was crying that the drink had pepper in it and it was too spicy for her. No sweetheart, that is called alcohol.

My girlfriend came to visit me in the States over New Years and I took her to the same place. With all the caipirinhas and shit I have seen her drink in Brazil I have never seen her drunk. But with only 2 of those Blue Motherfuckers she was fucked the fuck up. She fell through the doorway trying to take her clothes off when we got home. Yep. That is what real alcohol does.

And you might think they can dance. Nope. They can do Samba and that is pretty much it. I fell out of my seat watching her dance Samba to R&B music. It was like she was dancing to a beat that was not even in the same city.
