Also, while Ilha Grande is not really hidden (and quite a hike from Rio) it is indeed a gem. Highly recommended, but you might want to wife up for the trip.

If you go to Ilha Grande I highly recommend Asalem for your stay. As mentioned before, bring your own woman. The Island is spectacular. The food at Asalem is superb. I would also recommend traveling to Angra dos Reis by shuttle. You take the ferry from there to Ilha Grande. Under no circumstances take the bus from Rio. I have had two nightmare trips via bus going from Rio to Angra dos Reis { Ilha Grande}. By nightmare I mean the toilets overflowed on the bus and it smelled like shit the entire trip. The facilities at the bus station en route where we stopped for a break were no better, Get the shuttle van. There are several.

I like having that new guy perspective. He is exactly right. It took me over 20 years to realize it. I have been meaning to write about it in the General thread. If you like rice, beans, and shoe leather, then you have come to the right place.

I was at my girl's house in Sao Paulo last week and she was like well that is all I know how to make. I teased her and said why do y'all even have different restaurants since you have the same thing at all of them, which is the same thing y'all make at home everyday. Rice, beans (hell at least give me different kinds of beans instead of the same ones), french fries, tough ass beef in a pressure cooker, cut up chicken pieces in an oven, or breaded fried fish. She was like yeah you are right.

Then do not get me started on this feijoada stuff. You make beans everyday, but one day out of the week you give the people a treat by adding meat into the beans. Yippee!

Spices? Fuggetaboutit. Onion and salt are the only spices they need. Funny. Police chick that I used to mess with in Sao Paulo came to visit me in the States. I took her out to a hole in the wall spot where they have "real drinks." She was crying that the drink had pepper in it and it was too spicy for her. No sweetheart, that is called alcohol.

We wake around 10, get dressed and head back to Dark Room. Lineup is again awful. I wouldn't recommend this joint, at all. And don't ask me why we didn't just go Bel Prazer either.

Some longer-term residents might like the new set-up. It probably helps to keeps the prices of the ladies down. I think guys dropping in for a week or two much prefer the old set-up. Help Disco seemed to bring scores of girls from all over Brazil. There were stunners and girl next door types running around the Disco area. It was also easy to find an afternoon delight on the beach. Copa is much quieter now from a mongering perspective.

Yeah, sadly I can confirm the present situation in Copa. Mabs was a big nothing when I stopped by there around midnight on an October Friday night. There was only one attractive girl in the place and she was already taken. The rest of the girls were not what I consider fuck quality. Monte Carlo failed to impress as well, but I might have arrived there too early. I will try it again later in the evening before I make any final judgement. Then over in Ipanema I have mixed feelings about Centaurus.
