I would appreciate any advice on girl friendly hotels. Preferably close to the beach, but most importantly in a safe area where I can walt to close by bars or restaurants at night.

I have stayed there as well, but stopped because the scene on that end dried up (mainly Help, Puta Praia, L'uomo). Accommodations were decent, but on the more expensive side.

You really need to check it daily. I. e. Today it seems all Copa and Ipa beaches are clean, while Barra is 50:50, but it's not always this way. I even see that a Botafogo beach today (Marqus de Olinda) is shown as clean. Maybe you shouldn't fully trust this resource (I probably still wouldn't go into the water in Botafogo), but it's better then flying blind, I think.

I stayed at Astoria 3 weeks ago. It s kinda girl friendly, I would advise looking elsewhere. They will let you bring in ONE female on your 2 person reservation!! If you bring in a different girl for an over night experience, they will charge you an 80 R fee for each new female. Not a lot of money, but it sucks to have to pay a fee when you already payed for two fucking people.

After having checked "regular" travel advice I decided to change and I have now reserved a room at Hotel Astoria Palace for my stay. It is very close to the Copa beach and seems to be girl friendly. I booked a double room for two persons to make sure.

Since it's my first trip and I speak neither Portuguese nor Spanish I figured it's best to stay in a mainstream tourist area.

If anyone want to meet up for some bar hopping or Terma visits I will be in Rio 7-23 August.

It seems to be the same info. If you scroll down the page of Praia Limpa, it says the source (Fonte) is Inea http://www.inea.rj.gov.br/ar-agua-e-...de-das-praias/.

Your post with the ". pdf" (as of Jul-19-2021) of the cleaner beaches to be found in Rio, is very interesting, very interesting indeed. It looks like an official undertaking from the Governo do Rio (and by extension the Prefeitura the Cidade do Rio), so one can only assume it warrants some merit.

Since recent talk about some beaches being cleaner than others, it comes as somewhat of a shock that the Copa beaches are in better standing than others (like Barra) that were seen as being cleaner. Perhaps the upkeep with regards to Copa and Leme, has been better than first realized.
