With some of the recently written posts / conversions and poetic pros, comparisons to Hemingway (and the like), with regards to VM, it's interesting to note the strong emotional connection that a place, like VM triggers within someone to write such passionate pros.

When you consider, Hemingway love to write while in Cuba and Hemingway wrote some of his best work while in Cuba, a place, considered "squalled" and far "inferior" to American on so many levels. . . it begs the question, where is the same level of bluster, "poetic tales" and passion of enchantment for the high-end establishments? Perhaps there are some? I don't remember any of recent memory.

What is it about VM, that brings out the Hemingway in some?

I've encountered that issue many times. I'll get a diaper changing pad if I'm going to keep seeing that particular lady. Those pads are absorbent, inexpensive, and they cum in various sizes. lol

First let me say I put the blame on my shoulders for not being specific enough when I went on a tour of the hotel. During the tour, the manager asked if I would be staying alone and I said yes, but I will have female friends come to visit me, he replied that it wouldn't be a problem as long as I registered as 2 people. Well. That wasn't exactly the case.

The hotel is nice and I love the view from the 11th floor but there is my HUGE problem with the hotel. I had a girl come visit me last night for a couple of hours and the night manager asked if she was staying the night because if she was, I would have to pay a charge! I was like WTF? A charge for what? I registered as 2 people.

So this morning, I went and spoke to the manager who is also the one who showed me the hotel and asked what the issue was. Apparently, you can have guest come to see you during the day, but I can only have ONE female stay the night for free. If I change females, then I have to pay 85 fucking reais per person! I never had to deal with this before in a hotel, where I could only have one guest registered.

I am happy that I only payed for 1 week, so I will switch hotels next week and stay at IBIS. I wish the manager had been more specific and explained that I couldn't change females every night because I wouldn't be staying here. I know 85 reais is not a lot of money but it adds up over 3 weeks and it the point that why register as 2 people if I still have to pay a charge when I have a female over. In addition, i now have to add basically another 100 reais to what ever i negotiate with the female. Complete bullshit!

I will start calling girls over in the afternoon and I hope there is no fucking games with management when I do that!

I never had that happen to me at the Astoria Palace, and I brought back my share of girls to the room. Believe me. This is one thing I hate about less than "first tier" countries. One time it's this, then another time it's that. If they can get away with it. Booking the room for 2 should have been all it took! That's the standard, commonly accepted practice.

I agree, that's complete BS. Maybe it depends on the manager. But when I brought a lady into my room (Astoria), the hotel receptionist didn't bat an eye. She left after an HR, but the receptionist didn't know that when I was bringing her up.

I agree, this wasn't your fault. They were misleading so you'd book their room. They know it's super awkward to type that shit out: "I plan on sleeping with different women each night. Is that ok?" LOL.

That is definitely an issue for a long stay like yours. Does IBIS allow guests no extra charge?

I ask because I'm spending 3 nights in Rio in late August, and booked at the Hilton Copacabana hoping I won't have issues if I call in some girls to come over for some sessions, or even if I bring someone with me after hitting the termas. I hope I won't have to pay extras there too.

That MF manager was as specific as he wanted to be to get you book at his hotel. You aren't the first monger staying in his establishment, and he knows exactly what the score is. Not even mentioning that if you had ONE girl, you could just check in with her and that's it, no need for all that bullshit.

Before you go to IBIS, check Portobay. Great location, and I've heard good things about its girlfriendliness. You might, however, want to try to reconfirm that with the hotel.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, guest friendly hotels in Rio and elsewhere can many times be a moving target. If the manager isn't changing the rules during your stay, the night manager is trying to change them.

I have had the annoying "I paid for a double room for two guests." conversation a few times. Sometimes they relented and sometimes I've been forced to find another hotel. I guess that's why I've migrated to short-term rental units.

It's a pain in the ass, because sometimes you want the service and amenities of a hotel.

You're asking if they're following the rules strictly. Everyone is telling you yes, they are. They will know if you've been to the UK by your passport. If it doesn't say on your passport that you were in the UK the last 14 days, you might be able to get away with it.

PCR test is strictly enforced. I believe mine was enforced by my airline. I filled out my health declaration form online and printed it (13 pages). Airline staff were mostly confused by it, but it helped facilitate a faster check in process.
