I arrive on December 29 for circa 3 weeks. First week in an Airbnb in Ipanema, hopefully no issues bringing guests back. Hotel prices are crazy expensive given the time of year.

Panda Motel seems like a decent spot in Botafogo if stuck and can't bring a 'guest' into the Airbnb. Probably won't be an issue if give the security guy some money.

Haven't been in Rio in a few years, can't wait to get back!! The west is depressing with the dark, wet and windy winters and the people overall are not as nice. The hassle getting a date with a very average woman here isn't worth it (although I gave up on western women when I was 18, am 37 now).

I found Brazil Cupid very good for meeting normal women in advance of heading over.

I love all the thermas (Monte Carlo, Solarium and Centaurus).

I use Airbnb also but I always send a message to the agent asking if I can bring friends into the apartment. Some say no and specify no working girls, others say no over night guests and others say you can do whatever you want. Been 15 years since I last visited Rio. I am thinking about a few days in Ipanema / Copa Cabana and a few days in Barra de Tijuana. Does this make sense?

Are there any places that have picked up the vibe of the old Help in Copa? Or are we now have to be satisfied with the thermas?

Thinking about staying at airbnbs instead of hotels. Is it hard to bring guests? In others parts of Latin America getting guests into an airbnb can be an impossible mission.

Also no idea what the going rate is. We want to keep it affordable. What should I expect to pay in reals per hour?
