An Argentine tourist was killed on the morning of last Wednesday, 6th, in Armação de beúzios, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Her body was found on a trail near José Gonçalves beach. According to the Civil Police, a man, whose identity was not revealed, was arrested for murder.

The police did not give details of the cause of death and say they are still investigating the motivations for the crime. According to delegate Phelipe Cyrne Mattos Silva, from the 127th DP (Armação de beúzios), the victim's family has already been notified by the Argentine consulate.

"We work with the hypothesis of the motivation for a homicide or an attempt by him (the suspect) to commit a previous crime which, due to failure, turned to violence, resulting in the death of the victim", says Silva.

The police also did not provide any further information about the victim, but the Argentine press claims that she is Florencia Aranguren, 31, who had been in Brazil for four days.

Beúzios City Hall reported that the tourist's body was located through an anonymous tip, and that the Municipal Guard confirmed the death when investigating the incident. The Military Police and Civil Police agents were subsequently called. Moments later, the suspect was located.

According to police chief Phelipe Silva, residents of a nearby condominium detained the man, who was taken to the police station. To the police, the suspect denied the crime and stated that he had suffered an attempted robbery.

"We were able to verify that his clothes, although wet, had some latent blood stains," said the delegate. "And, on his body, scratch marks were found, typical of the victim's attempt to defend himself," he added.

The clothes were subjected to expert examination which, according to Silva, confirmed the presence of blood. "Some DNA tests are pending to compare the material collected from his body with the victim's genetic material," said the delegate. The suspect was charged with murder.

In a statement, the Civil Police say that the 127th DP began investigations as soon as it was notified of the case. "The investigation was carried out on site, witnesses were interviewed and security cameras were requested," he stated. According to the Municipal Guard, the suspect has police records for theft and bodily harm.

ATM or not, always choose to pay in LOCAL CURRENCY with a credit or debit card. Always decline the currency conversion. Not only that, but check store receipts even if they don't ask. Some crooked proprietors will try to pull this scam without even telling you. I must confess I often forget myself, and when I come back home, always find 2-3 receipts with dollar conversions I've never authorized.

It is the same same with CC's as with Debit Cards. Always say no to the local conversion! So, when you are charging something on your credit card in Brazil, a screen will usually pop up asking if you want to charge your card in dollars of BR. Always choose to be charged in BR. This way your card will be charged in BR and your credit card company will give you the best conversion rate. If you choose to be charged in dollars you are in effect accepting the local bank conversion rate and your card will be charged in dollars.

I am not sure about credit card. But at the ATM always decline conversion. You always get Reals regardless. But if you accept conversion then you get a scammy local bank rate. If you decline conversion then your US bank uses spot rate.

Assume this is same for credit card. Decline conversion. Pay in Reals.
