A lazy search (type GRU to SDU into your search engine) will show there are many flights between GRU and SDU just as there would be between any two major US cities.

Here is the tip. I presume you're flying via GRU (LATAM doesn't fly nonstop to Rio from JFK AFAIK). So if you have a long layover in Sao Paulo, try to get a ticket agent to put you on the next available flight. Doesn't cost anything to ask, and you might be able to start partying early.
