As I am in the UK my problem is Bolsanaro is portrayed as a complete lunatic in the media and because of the low vaccination rates in Brazil, they will be on our 'Red List' for ages yet! This means we get fined if we travel without an approved reason. Unfortunately, fantastic women isn't a good enough reason for our government. CDMX will be open for us next month so I will try there first and visit Rio later in the year. Thanks again for all your advice everyone. I think not paying advance in some cases is going to cause you a lot of problems. I've been at this for 50 years. I don't understand how you can say that you only will pay after?

I have been playing the punting game for a long time too. I only pay afterwards in with regards to all bar girls, go go girls, FL's, SW's and escorts. Prior to Rio's Olympics, it came out that Rio's beaches are polluted and contaminated. Like Pattaya, Rio dumps it's raw sewage. Take a dip into the ocean, you might encounter a turd floating nearby. Rinse off with the showers provided by the barracas, and you'll be rinsing with urine contaminated water. Yeah, the beaches are gorgeous, too bad they're contaminated with ecoli and other things. When I heard about that, I stopped going to Copa and Ipanema beach.
The beach at Recreio dos Bandeirantes has been the cleanest in the area, but it's a haul from Copa.
Btw, With the lack of tourists, Pattaya beach is cleaner now.

Checking today, Barra is mostly good, Copa, Apraodor and Ipanema are good, Leblon is mostly bad. This situation changes every day, so if you trust the source, you ideally need to check before heading to the beach. Today the site specifically recommends Ipanema and Grumari as the cleanest in Rio.

That is very good news. I appreciate all the information recently from everyone and field reports by Natty. I admire him for his screw it I'm going now regardless attitude. I'm a little more cautious. I'm getting a 2nd vaccine shot shortly and I'm not particularly fearful of travel to Brazil, its more I want to experience everything open. This would be a first trip over and I hate to have to do it with things shut down, particularly Scandello. The real question is. When is this going to happen? I was planning on a trip in a few months or less. On the up side for people who are traveling now, I can see it as a buyers market.

Yeah, and in order to get the games, they made all of these big promises about cleaning the place up (including Guanabara Bay), which of course they didn't do. Stuff is nice to look at, but go swimming at the beach in Rio at your own peril!
