It gets so fucking hot in the stairs, I end up just waiting for the elevators.

Stairs need some comments. I always carry a long privè-list with me when I'm in Rio. To reach the privées I want to visit it's often best to take the elevator to the top floor and work my way down using the stairs. The alternative is to return to the the ground floor and que for another elevator, as the elevator just serves some floors.

Rio Branco 156: A very good building to use the stairs. There are two stairs. Very easy for running down. The janitors often hang out in the stairs. They know all the privées.

Rio Branco 185: This isn't a good building to use the stairs. The stairs make the building easy-navigated. The problem is the porteiros on the ground floor who monitors all the floors, some of them are a pain in the ass. If you use the stairs they will yell in the loudspeakers (on the different floors) and tell that it's forbidden to hang out in the corridors. Very annoying. The good thing is that some of the guys working the elevators are a very valuable source of information. I have one elevator buddy in RB185. He knows every privê in the building and all the girls who works at the privées. When it's just me and him in the elevator he'll give me the latest information on the new hottest girls. Often he's very interested to hear what I think about the newbies.

Avenida Treze de Maio 33. This is a confusing building. The elevators are located on three different spots. On the bottom floor, the second floor (reached by escalators) and also in the end of the building. The elevator ques are often very long and the elevators are extremely slow. The stairs in TDM33 are very good. Easy to run downstairs.

Rua Uruguaiana 24. This isn't a big building and there are no elevator options, but it still need an advice. Before you enter the building you pick up a flyer in the pharmacy on the other side of the street. Enter the building, make a stop half a stair up to let your eyes get used to the darkness in the stairs and when you go up and down never touch the railings. The railings are superfilthy of dirt and sperm (there are no showers for the customers). If you need to touch the railings, use the flyer you brought.

P.S Rua Buenos Aires 85. This privê building is history. It used to be an excellent trash-privè-building. Five floors with cheap privées with often very good quality. Anyway, the spiral stairs at RBA85 were the worst you could imagine. Extremely narrow and with incredibly dirty railings (rust, sperm and god knows what else). Meeting a fat guy in those stairs were mission impossible.

I can't explain what a pleasure it has been to spend the last 4 months in a country where, for the most part, people have embraced living vs fear. Many things can kill us, in "the west" (debatable if Brazil should be included in that definition) we're so insulated that any slight risk brings about an absurd reaction, in Brazil (most of) the people know that life is short and there are many risks, as such they live in a somewhat fatalistic manner that has been wonderful to experience.

Thank you for your post, brought back many good memories! I spent quite a bit of time in Rio, and always had a rollicking good time. I have to admit that I never spent more than 2 months consecutively in Brazil, so you clearly have the leg up in terms of experience. My experience with the GdPs is also much more limited, because I have always been able to pull from the local bars and dance halls. I have been in Rio five times, but never went to a terma believe it or not. But I have to say, in my opinion there is nothing that compares to being 'objectified' by a Brazilian non-pro!

I concur with you about the "life versus fear" attitude in Brazil (on average, I should say). I met many Brazilians facing total hardship every day, but they were happy and positive people. When coming back to the 'first world', there was never a shortage of well-to-do folk being miserable, for some really BS reasons IMHO. But over time, I learned that the Brazilian "tanto faz!" attitude is a double-edged sword. There is the stoic version in the sense of "there is nothing I can do about it, so I am not going to worry about it", which I totally admire. But there is also the "I don't give a shit about what happens to others" version, which I have also seen many a times.

I see where you are coming from. Being previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 makes it very unlikely for you get infected again (at least for quite a while), but there is also increasing evidence that you are much less likely to be an asymptomatic carrier who can infect others, so very similar to being vaccinated. Right on! That said. It is true that for 90%+ of the newly infected the consequences are benign, but someone who gets infected can be a carrier who passes it on to some cancer survivor down the line who then kicks the bucket. Some BM posted a video here from Barra a little while ago where in essence no-one gave a s* about wearing a mask, and given where we are, undoubtedly the majority of these people had not been vaccinated and / or been previously infected. As much as I love the country, that rubbed me the wrong way. And if you look at the recent numbers, the shit is about to hit the fan for real. So I think the question of "life versus fear" is also a question of what price you are willing to pay, and how likely you think it is your number will be called. As far as I can tell, I have not been infected yet, so I am OK with blue balls for now. Once I am vaccinated, I'll be on the road again.

I should have added that, if I wasn't here in Rio with my girlfriend (yikes), I would almost certainly be living a happy life in Transamerica, just not sure she'd appreciate its charms I've been there often and it is a magical place. Haha very much the Hotel California. Standing in reception awaiting the room number (this process takes forever of course) I have witnessed some magnificent specimens. You are much better of studying Gpguia and Gpgarena, make notes, go to Treze de Maio 33. Go to the top floor and work yourself downstairs, using the fire-stairs as the elevators are complicated in that building. Prives open and close quickly in TdM 33.

Yep, they always try and lead you in there too, when it's not that hard to find them once inside. It gets so fucking hot in the stairs, I end up just waiting for the elevators.

Santa definitely varies depending on which part, the lower area around Lapa is extremely sketchy (e. G. My taxi was bombarded by cracked-up lunatics trying to pull me and driver out of the car to do god knows what on a Lapa street at 1 pm!) but I was living on the top of the hill near the famous Aprazival restaurant. This area is quite upmarket and super hip, there are great restaurants / bars (Bar do Gomes and Bar do Minero being classics) and it is super safe. Interestingly, BOPE's (the Rio special forces police) HQ / training ground is on that hill so a) you hear them training with automatic weapons, grenades, etc. All day and night b) it keeps it pretty safe as these badasses are often cruising around.

The only real downside of Santa is that the beach is min 20 minutes away, and if you're in Rio for a holiday you kinda want to be near the beach, right? If I was to live in Rio I'd consider Santa though as property is cheaper and it's a cool area.

Haha yes I haven't done any business here (yet) but I can imagine the upside in their character could become downside very quickly. But wow there's so much here that I love, E. G I've been to the federal police 3 x times in an effort to extend my visa, this should be super easy and done online but of course in Brazil it is bureaucratic and slow. However I never complain, the benefits here are just so compelling vs the downsides.

I think it's a little more than that.

Other things being equal, you might expect more sophistication from a R$500 GDP, not necessarily more hotness. Performance-wise, they might know better the buttons, emotional and physical, they need to push to keep you happy. That may or may not be something you're willing to pay a premium for. I've had great performances from inexpensive girls (this is Rio, after all), but then I don't mind giving directions when I need to. So if you're just interested in a physical aspect of a job, I don't believe the difference in price is worth it. Not too long ago, in the Angeles City thread, I posed basically the same hypothesis on that board. It goes something like this:
