Posts: 2246Our "patrol" was similar to the group in the novella in these ways.
- we had military people, the general (who was as I said actually a corporal, but I gave him that name, which ironically flatters enlisted men, something I've done before), the admiral (again who was an enlisted navy man), and me, a former officer (and I referred to myself for the 4 to 6 patrols we did as a private).
- we were drinking and mongering like those guys in the book unlike his middle class respectable family.
- we were out until late at night or early morning. Admiral said this was crazy as he preferred to get a girl at 22 h / 10 pm, fuck at night a few times, and then sleep, and then get up with the girl and fuck.
The real life / Rich world reality of the general really is a separate world from our confidential mongering reality. I won't violate privacy, the first rule of fight club is don't talk about fight club. The literary term is irony.
But we few, our little group, will do a wake next time at least two of us get together. We will have a drink and fuck a working girl to his memory.
Anyway thanks for suggesting the novella. I've already suggested the book to some of my rich world book club contacts, including a SF commander who quickly decided to read the novella.

In the 70's there was an American movie Sandpit Captains based on the Amado book (Captains of the Sand). The movie was completely ignored by pretty much everyone, but it had a beautiful song written by Dorival Caymmy that, which had been used previously in Orson Wells documentary Four Men on a Raft (that's a hell of a story on its own). Anyway, I haven't managed to find any trace of that movie, but here is this song scene in the Wells' film.

Vagabundo, glad you enjoyed the book! Somehow your description of the general triggered my memory, and now I feel I should re-read it after all these years.

Posts: 15925I am at my girlfriend's house in Mato Grosso, but heading to Rio next week. My regular apartment lady sent me some pics of a place I turned down and she has not been back with me yet. I hit a friend of mine up who has an apartment that she rents; it is always full. Whoever was going to be staying there, she got to change their reservation so I could have the place.
Now my brother is supposed to meet me in Rio, so I hit her up again to see if she knew anyone else renting apartments. She said that at this time people are not wanting to rent them short term because of Covid. They are only looking for long term rentals of 30 months or more. She did give me a couple of people to hit up on whatsapp, but I have not heard back from them.

Posts: 2246That is a great scene, but I can't see how it is allowed on youtube. Full female nude tits, like a wefuckblackgirls.com teaser.
This whole discussion of this novella is truly of literary and redeeming value.
I finished up my two pernoites, paid 600 gladly, 11 pops total, so good value.

On a side note, I was seated next to Jose Wilker on a flight to Newark not long before he died. The man was quite surprised to be recognized by an American.
As for films, here's a scene from a master that's gives a glimpse into Brazil you won't see anywhere else. Enjoy:
