Just got back from Brazil for the first time. Had a great trip and was able to visit with four of my friends. Did all the tourist stuff and of course the mongering activities as well. The trip was for two weeks and we traveled from Sao Paulo to Rio then to Floripa. All of us with the exception of one came back with Covid.

Be careful out there gentlemen. With the contact tracing it seems as though the first person on out group caught it the 2nd day that we were there. We wore the mask in public which is required, but around each other the mask were taken off and that is most likely how it has spread so fast amongst the group.

It was passed on to friends and family that we meet while visiting the cities. We all thought it was bullshit and the others were joking. We passed all the temperature checks at the restaurants, malls and airports.

Once getting back to the states we got tested just to make sure. All came back positive. I suffered the most since my covid turned to pneumonia. Others had lost their sense of smell and taste and the other was asymptomatic. I had to go to the hospital for pneumonia, bedrest for 8 days and lost 12 lbs from the ailment.

This virus spreads with continuous exposure to the virus. Be careful who you are around for long periods of time. Rio is a hotbed for the Covid virus.

Booked Airbnb apartment in Ipanema. I am very excited but nervous at the same time. This will be my first ever time on the S. American continent.

Is Uber 'easy' to take from RIOgaleo airport? One thing that really winds me up and stresses me out is arriving and getting hassled by illegal scamming taxi men. I just want to use uber app straight away. Is there a specified location where they go to pick up?

Can anyone recommend a beautiful, clean and quiet beach to relax on? Ipanema and Copa don't look very much like my scene.

Unless something has changed in the last several months, getting Uber from GIG is a piece of cake. When you connect to Uber on the airport WiFi, it'll tell you to go to the Departure level. You just choose the pickup point closest to you, and that's it.

The beaches: neither is clean, but Ipanema beach is cleaner, at least looked that way to me.

If the quality of water is important you might want to hop to Barra. Or, as a compromise try Leblon. I enjoyed the beach in front of Sheraton. It's shaped like a cove and even though it looks private, it's not. No young bundas though, there are very few people, mostly families and Sheraton guests. IIRC, there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel.

Ah makes sense they'd be closed for Christmas. Unfortunately only really interested in the Termas. Was in Rio a few years back and did the Tinder thing, and I'll be in Sao Paulo the rest of the week with something off SA / the clinicas so not itching to get a fix like that LOL. What about December 31st though? I can schedule my flight back from SP to get in early if the termas might be open then.

I'm not sure I can get on this wavelength, but Barra is a cleaner and quieter beach. It's a slight trek to get out there several days from Ipanema, but it's not difficult.

I enjoy the masses on the Copa and Ipanema beaches. Ipanema is perhaps my favorite. The Brasileiras in their tiny bikinis are amazing for the libido. Ipanema in my opinion is a cleaner beach.

Since you are staying in Ipanema, this is what I would suggest. Grab your beach towel and walk to Posto 9 (lifeguard station) in Ipanema. If it's not your scene, keep walking west. Leblon Beach seems to be a bit quieter.

Be careful with the taxis in Rio, I didn't have an honest one the whole time. Uber is the way to go. My Airbnb was in Copa and I regret not taking public transit there. I told taxi to stop at a Cambio because SDU didn't have a cambio, so he conveniently forgot to stop and demanded dollars afterwards. But To his surprise I had a small amount of reals on me tho. Funny how I caught a taxi back to the airport and the fare was more than double the original price, I'm riding the train next time.

I never had any problem with a taxi driver being crooked in Rio ever. The same thing can't be said for other cities around the world that I have been to. The problem that I had the last time is Rio is that too many of the dummies didn't seem to know where the hell they were going! I got some idiot who couldn't find Centaurus! It's only one of the most famous cat houses in the entire world! I finally told his dumb ass to let me out. I paid him what I thought was fair (he didn't complain), caught another taxi, and I was putting on a tattered Centaurus robe in a flash! LOL! Had another guy miss a turn when I was trying to get to 4 X 4. We ended up in the worst centro traffic jam ever! I paid him, got the fuck out, and walked to 4 X 4. Steamed that all the best pussy was being taken while I was stuck in a fucking traffic jam due that bozo! I will look into using Uber more the next time. Does Brazil have Lyft as well?

Like the other mongers you mention, I appreciate your comments. That said, I will say that in comparison to the Monte carlo / solarium zona sul top tier girls, the dark side (IE, North of Av Presidente Vargas) termas top 10% are better, all day long. In part because they are younger, hungrier, and hotter.

Uber works great in Rio. Just enter your destination and look for the car that is assigned to you.

Avoid the high price places. Last week, with all the high spending at Paris, Monte Carlo etc, I got to say, that is not my scene. The value investor looks for diamonds (skin diamonds) among the dark side termas, and then gets the best to the love shack. Copacabana, IMHO, sucks. The quality is like warmed over dogshit. Old, jaded, working girls I've seen for over 5 years congregate at Mabs, and cluster in Monte Carlo. Solarium is fresher, but still way over priced, and the girls at Paris, same thing, they are anchored on 500 Reais per hour, go fuck yourself for those prices. I'm paying 400 reais pernoite, BBFSCIP, and ass if I want, but I spare her because I don't like causing pain. Maybe I am going soft but I didn't fuck her ass.
