Day 3.
Sunday, slow day. Most of the massage / prive places being closed. Just enjoyed the Copacabana beach and did some strolling around. At night, based on my positive experience of photoacompanhantes, I wanted to see how far I could go down on price but keeping quality. So I messaged a few girls, and found one asking 120 reals for 1 hour for BBBJ / CIM / Rimming. Took uber down to her place, on 583 Av Nossa de Sra. , late night around 11 PM. The girls I met was thick, both body and brain wise. Not like her photo at all, but that was expected. Also probably a new comer. She straight away ask if I wanted a threesome for 200, I declined. The session was very poor, poor inexperienced blowjob, lame sex, no rimming, no CIM. Finished on her boobs. I guess going from 150 reals to 120 reals made a big drop in quality. I was out in 30 min. Experience comparable to what a Rom will give you for 50 £ in UK. Bad.
Day 4.
After some touristy stuff, decided to check out Eden Spa at 583 Av Nossa Sra. , receptionist using translator says it's 200 reals for 1 hour sex + massage. Led to a small room where girls come one by one for presentation. 5 girls shown. Mostly average. I choose Laeticia, because she was acting really slutty when she introduced herself to me, I thought it was funny. Took shower, then she started with a blowjob, unfortunately she was a "Deep cleaner" : one of those girls who will try to clean the dick in every corner, I just find that annoying so I told her ok do a CBJ. The CBJ was good, although I hate CBJ. Sex in various positions, she took it well, acting slutty and all. Finished on her "sealed" lips again. She then tell me using translator that she had a "pigmentation" of her mouth done last week so her mouth is sensitive. Ok whatever. Then she gave a good 30 min massage to finish off. Took shower and left. Not bad overall, kind a comparable to my favorite place Snow White in BKK.
Evening, decided it was time to try something more expensive rather than budget. So I hooked up with a girl from hotside, she asked 400 reals per hour or 1400 reals pernoite. Was expecting to see a white girl based on her pictures, it turns out to be a very light brown girl, that's even better for me. Very cute and innocent looking. No English, communication was difficult. Anyway proposed her a shot of Double black label, then went to bed. Very good BBBJ, sucking balls, gave her a DATY, good kissing, then when it comes to sex she asks me if I have condom, I said no, she try to find in her bag and can't find. She comes back and suck me again, then asks me if it's ok to fuck without. I said ok. BBFS. Very delicious girl, tried to do a creampie but couldn't, prob due to alcohol / tiredness. Asked her to suck me and finished on her face. She then just lays on bed for a few minutes, asking if I wanted to keep her for the night. I explain her since I am on a 1 month trip, I need to manage my budget, and her pernoite rate will drain my money fast. I did hesitate whether to offer her a lower rate or even accept the 1400. However I find that quite expensive, especially compared to the local average salary, and also compared to Asian rates (I am used to 5000 THB LT at gogo's = about 900 reals). However, based on her offering BBFS (I suspect it was a way for her to make me take the pernoite), I might take the bite and take her for pernoite later in the week.
One note: for the first time in all my trips, I feel speaking Portuguese is a big advantage here in Brazil. Not speaking the language does indeed make things difficult here, both with girls and the daily life. Too bad, however I do already speak 5 languages on a daily basis, and just don't have time / motivation to learn a 6th.

There is a Brazilian Portuguese textbook, Portugûes Básico Para Estrangeiros, that you can buy or find online if you're more academically minded. I used it in a class I took at the local college. It also has CDs. I'm also using Duolingo, which is free, to brush up on my vocabulary and grammar.
Say, can anyone recommend a fun Brazilian TV show to watch, something like Friends?
I wish that the Porta Dos Fundos videos came with Portuguese subtitles, so that I could catch the slang.

Like I said, none of this is an outright condemnation of Rio, I just wasn't thrilled enough to come back anytime soon. I didn't dislike this trip. I will be trying Europe next due to some recommendations from others, but I fully expect to return to Bangkok at some point, having had many many successful trips there. Still, it's a matter of personal taste, so don't let my words dissuade you from visiting, unless for some odd reason you're just like me.
And again, pay no mind to people saying learn the language blah blah, if you're only coming for a short trip and perhaps never again. No one really cares if you don't speak the language. It presents obvious barriers, but translators have come a long way, especially now that you can just talk into the things without ever typing a word. Generally if you're polite and understanding, people will reciprocate, translator or no.

As far as internet photos, it's really hit or miss. Sometimes a wide miss. Most of us read reviews / recommendations here and in the local language board to try to differentiate.

Posts: 2193I could not agree more!
I checked out a Brazilian language CDS from my library before I made my first trip, and just listened to them and practiced.
If you sit at your house and social isolate and play video games all day, you can do that much.
Now I've been here in Brazil 27 times as much as 10 months at a time.
I still want to learn better Portuguese! I will probably take a class. The bubba boy guide mentions some choices, like at PUC-Rio. BR.
I think I will start reading some books, like FIM by Torres, or the Porto language version of the subtle art of not giving a fuck.
I've been out at least one of the mongers here who thinks that learning Porto is not required for their travel to Brazil, and it sucks being out with such lame people, whom I've dropped.
