Is the Buzios nightlife really that great? I've never been there, and always thought of it as kind of a quiet, sleepy place. Thus, the need to take a girl there with you versus finding somebody there. What's there to do at night in Buzios (non-mongering)?

Just to clarify, the nightlife scene in Buzios is quite cozy compared to Rio, and it's mostly bars with live music that tend to cater to younger and beautiful crowd. There is no open mongering scene in Buzios, although I'm seeing some online options now that weren't available just a few years back.

As to what to do in Buzios? It's a nature paradise. Beach-hopping, boat-cruising. The latter can get quite fun depending on the crowd, and we met some cool people on these sailings. Then there are tiny all-terrain vehicles they call "jippes," there are a lot of fun, can't leave the town limits, though.

Buzios is great for a few days. Anything longer, and I'd get bored.

Buzios is a really nice place. Different beaches on the various fingers of the hilly peninsula. Lots of water activities. Decent restaurants.

You hit the nail on the head. Wifey up before going. Rio working girls love being invited to Buzios. The nightlife generally caters to young, affluent Brazilians. You would need a lot of game to pick-up a civilian in Buzios. The civilian girls are likely with groups which adds more challenge of breaking them away from the pack. While it's only about 100 miles from Rio Centro, it can be very slow getting there. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend a day trip.

As far as safety in Rio, there is no reason not to Uber / taxi door-to-door at night. Periodically, we have these discussions and some members post about their street wits and never ever having an issue. Either have I, but I go the way of being as safe as possible in any city.

Yeah, Uber costs next to nothing. No reason to stay inside even after dark.

As to Buzios, yes, you'd definitely need more game there than in Rio. Would be an uphill battle even with Portuguese or Spanish (plenty are tourists from Chile and Argentina). I'd say, 90% of that crowd are couples and families.

Are you interested in some touristy stuff? Do Sugarloaf, Corcovado, enjoy the beaches, go on some walking tours, etc. If you're not pressed for time, take a day tour to Buzios. Better yet, wife up before going to Buzios. Even stay there for a couple of days. It's a peninsula with some excellent beaches and great nightlife. You can rent a million-dollar-view villa and live like a king for a few days, and its quite affordable. Cariocas call Buzios a paraiso and for a good reason, too.

Back to Rio.

Stay in Copacabana (more touristy) or Ipanema (safer).

As to the rest. I'm not sure what you're looking for. If you don't want to pay "by the hour" you can pay for 30 minutes.

Just kidding. Do you speak Portuguese? Are you young and pretty? For regular, non-pro nightlife, go to Lapa, especially if you like Samba. This is the bedrock of Rio nightlife. Google Lapa clubs to get some ideas.

Keep your wits about you at all times. Don't get drunk on public. Don't leave your drinks unattended. Rio is awesome, but it's not a safe city, no matter how much we love it here.

Thanks for information, I will probably find an apartment sometime in the turn of Copaabana or Ipanema. Went there last night and here is my review:

This is said by locals in damn near every big city in the world. Again, never had a problem. If it is beyond your comfort level though, better safe than sorry. Here is a shot of the Cathedral that I took while walking in that area back in February late at night with my Galaxy Note. Seems pretty peaceful to me.
