If you stay at the Pestana, make sure you get one of their top tier rooms. Although the room I had "passed", I was a bit disappointed with the upkeep. The common areas were decent, and as Rio Bob says, the place is girl friendly. It's in a decent Copa location too.

Many of these women look TGTBT. They either don't work there or they only do massage (and if your lucky you might get a HJ).

Checking in Guests can actually be a good thing. If Brazilians are asked, they must show their National ID card to police. This ID card has their photo and fingerprint.

The last thing a girl wants to do is lose it. Because the front desk clerks like you (you did remember to introduce yourself and now know them by name, right? You can ask them to request the girl's ID card and hold it until you give them the word that everything is OK. This also gives them the chance to tell the girl that you are a nice Gringo. Guys with no social skills will tell you all that matters to the girls is money. Yeah, sure. We will go with that.

Thanks for this feedback in addition to all the others throughout all the pages I scrubbed here for clarity on joiner hotel policies and which properties to book to avoid such hassle.

Really want to book a hotel for next month as it seems the way to go for an inaugural Rio visit versus a Copacabana apartment but it still appears to be a coin toss (other than the few top shelf hotels) as to whether your going to be heading up to your room alone.

Not a fan of love hotels and just enjoy the company in my own comfort and surroundings (preferably with a balcony). I miss the ease of Thai guest friendly hotels but got to get some poonannie somewhere.

Are we limited to just booking the 3 in this post without issue or any other properties or workarounds?

Pestana and Othon Palace are also both girl friendly *I've been told* but as I have never stayed in either property I have no idea whether they are or not. Based on other reports on the thread I would have booked Miramar, but Miramar for me has been one of the most difficult. One of our party even tried to politely tip the security guard / doorman but they were having none of it. I was told by my local friends that The Windsor Group have been having issues with girls so put a blanket ban on them, if they've signed into the room it is fine but otherwise it is a straight no.

AirBnB's work fine and if you search you'll find some with balcony's, mines certainly does for my next stay, I would advise 2nd or 3rd night tipping the doorman and learn the phrase "obrigado por cuidar de mim". (Thank you for looking after me) As a gringo you'll be able to access most of the hotels without being resident, we often drink at the Hilton rooftop, Miramar etc as no one tends to stop you if you know what you are doing, you can even use their pools just take your own towels.

WRT taking girls back, it really is hit-or-miss and I think a lot of it depends on how the girl looks. The girl I had at Fairmont showed up dressed respectably, but most of the girls don't because they simply don't have the money to buy nice clothes.

Like you I am not a fan of love hotels so I'd be more inclined to AirBnB it.

I've no idea how you managed at Miramar by Windsor. They would only allow one girl in (checked in) and when you returned with another they did not allow. Not only me that had this issue, I've been there with several friends (last time we stayed we were 5 guys in our own rooms) and we all experienced the same following one night in Centaurus and one in Monte Carlo - 2nd night no girls allowed. Windsor Leme point blank refused anyone in my room. I have stayed at Miramar loads, and in fact have stopped staying there now only due to their inflexibility with visitors.

I stayed at Fairmont last time I was in Rio and had no issue getting girl in, met her in car park and was not accosted by security.

In my experience (all recent and heading again in November for 8 weeks) the below hotels work:

Checked out prive on Ulrich. Entered, said 4 girls working for some reason only got to see 3 cause one was in the shower all of a sudden. I chose natia, black, bikini tanned. For those reasons I have been booking apartments the past few times I've been and only in hotels for a week or so at the end of my trip, I am doing exactly this when I am there later this year and will stay at Fairmont for the last 8 nights, whilst Hilton is cheaper, at 250 are $ per night for company this can add a significant amount to the bill if you return with more than one girl.

Hotel tip: Book for two people and if you want you can check one girl in FOC. It has been my experience that when you return with another some hotels charge and some don't allow at all.
