Can anyone advise on how to register for forumx? I used to have an account, but it looks like they changed up their site and may require a Brazilian cell number for registration. Everything seems fine through the registration, but I never get any confirmation to my email address. I'm looking at going back to Rio for the first time in awhile, and the info there is always great and up to date.

This might seem overly simplistic, but in these situations I usually "borrow" a working number from other websites. Perhaps a Rio restaurant's phone number as an example.

Agreed. Barra da Tijuca is a very nice area. IMHO Barra is not as remote due to access via the subway (Line 1 covering Copa to Line 4 covering Ipanema to Barra da Tijuca) to Jardim Oceanico (Metro Station) I had not problem or issue taking subway from Copa to Jardim Oceanico when going to Barra Shopping Mall.

Vagabundo1, Do you know if Transamerica Condo or other Condos & Apartments in the area have dedicated bus or transportation to the Jardim Oceanico (Metro Station)??

I have spent a lot of time in Barra and beyond in Recreio near the Rio Water Planet amusement park. While the subway is much better than taxis, the bus or vans we used to take (before Uber), I think it depends on the length of your visit. You can chew up a lot of time in Rio just getting from place to place. Not sure that is how you want to use your time if you are only there for a week.

Barra is more remote, maybe like Orange County to LOS Angeles, but I like it -- a lot.
It is beautiful. It is farther away from all the BS in Copa. The water, if you swim, is clean, which makes a difference to me. It is an added expense in uber to get girls there and back, but some girls do take buses.
All in all, I enjoy my view of the beach and the pedra do gavea. The cost is $2200 reais per month for a small room at transamerica. Av gastao senges 395. City buses can be had a block away. A dedicated bus for the condominium goes directly to cinelandia via Ipanema and Copa each day, hourly.

I'm not an expert on every nook and cranny of the Rio hobbying scene, but it has useful locations consolidated on a map. Almost all of them have been mentioned here. I find it odd that the author doesn't mention Vila Mimosa by name, but rather calls it the area near Hospital Quinta the'Or.

From time to time, ISG members have created customized Google maps for the Rio and SP hobbying scenes.

I think you have to consider that you live there for extended periods and are likely somewhat comfortable with the language. Rio for a first-timer can be an entirely different experience.

Just got a tip from a Travel Agent mate British Airways have a world wide sale starting tomorrow for two or three days, included is London to Rio for travel between November and June next year for 377 pounds round trip.
