Today, Sunday, I scouted out a condominium across the street from my current spot, Transamerica. This is the Riviera del fiori, which has a open pool. I kind of talked my way into the pool and jumped into the pool for some laps, then made friends. Tomorrow, I have a visit scheduled.

The price quoted is 2800 r / mes for a 2 bedroom apartment with a kitchen, and of course a veranda, and most importantly an open pool, gym, and kitchen. Here in Transamerica, the pool is closed but supposed to be opening in August. So I may give it another month. This makes me happy. When I was down there for carnaval I ended up booking a place for New Years. It was like $42/day. The owners wrote to me wanting to cancel because they had not jacked the price up yet. I fought them about it, but they still canceled. Hotelsdot gave me a $100 voucher for the inconvenience. I hope they end up with no renter for that shit since stuff is canceled.

Bad news, if you don't have these events then you don't need tourists. I think the airlines already got the message because for early next year American Airlines for example cancelled their nonstops from NY to GIG and they had 2 nonstops from Miami now only one daily and from Houston they route you through Miami. So reduced capacity for sure. I don't see any airlines having a nonstop anymore from NY, too bad Iv'e enjoyed this for quite some time now but will have to adapt for changing times. Well Carnaval is 6 months away, this lockdown is only 4 months old now, perhaps things will open up. What about you few guys on the ground now, when did you get in? Before the lockdowns? Cost is 2200 r per month. Awesome 22nd floor view on the veranda of barra coastline.

Logistics are a bit more distanced. 343 bus from central / centro goes to Metro Jardim Botanica. Proprietary bus from Transamerica (395 Av Gastao Senges) goes straight to cinelandia / US Consulate hourly from 0610 to 2000. Uber of course, 50 r to most spots in zona sul.

I think it depends upon what you're interested in. Looks like the hotel is in dollars and the price of the girls are in reais. I googled the hotel and for the month of August comes out to $2,300 dollars similar to his quote. And those prices for the girls look about right in reais.

I moved to Transamerica out in Barra (cost 2200/ month, nice 22nd floor view of the beach and barra), on advice of some mongers on this board. Very sad that Barbarellas is gone. Brazil is ranking 2nd in the entire world in terms of highest peak of covid-19 cases (nearly 30 to 40 k cases per day). I don't think tourist would want to travel to Brazil within the next 1 year or so. There will be a chain reaction as less tourist meaning less money for Brazilian airlines, hotels, taxis and economy. I'm afraid this may result into shut down of more Termas which are left now. I used to hire apartment on the same street next to Barbarellas but now that area is dead to me now also. Slowly all the Copa tourist nightlife is getting dead. I hope I get to catch one of the last Termas before they all shut down.

It's a very sad situation for Brazil at the moment with the pandemic being in full force and killing so many Brazilians. I can't imagine anyone even considering going there now, looking at the situation. But also considering how fast he disease is spreading, beyond control like it seems, and if it goes on like this, the situation will be very different after some months. Cases and deaths will drop to low numbers, just like what happened in places which also has been seriously affected. That's what happed in Wuhan, North of Italy and New York City for example. If the spread of Corona goes on like it does now, Brazil might even reach herd immunity, or at least a degree of immunity within the population, that will slow down the pandemic very much. And especially in the regions that are most affected, like Sao Paulo and Rio for example. I think the situation will be very different, and better, as we will be getting closer to the summer in Brazil. If it will be good enough for tourists to want to come back remains to be seen. If a vaccine will be available like next year or so, I hope it will help the situation not only in Brazil but also in the rest of the world. Let's hope a vaccine will be available sometimes next year.
