This board is crazy. Don't bring cash because you will get robbed by street people. Don't use ATM because you will get robbed by the machine. Don't use credit card because you will get robbed by the staff.

When I was in Brazil 2 weeks ago (Porto de Galinhas and Recife) I still had 600 reais left from my last trip. I did not have to get money from a machine and I did not bring dollars from home. Other than the reais I already had on hand, all I did was use my Amex Platinum. Rental Car, hotel, restaurants, gas station. I think the only thing I did not use that card for was tolls, buying a refrigerator magnet for R$6 and having a tire rim fixed on the car for R$10.

Before I have brought cash and exchanged it on the black market, but mostly I have used ATMs. For now I will be sticking with my no fees and great exchange rate credit card and still using ATMs when I need cash.

Every time I give the warning, immediately, someone else comes on the board saying "I've never been robbed! My father always said that a hard head makes a soft ass, so you guys keep using your bank cards in Brazil Just don't get pissed when I say "I TOLD YOU SO!
Using cash is better, it's safer and more benificial but credit cards must be used as a last resort. It's not dangerous to use credit card in Brazil unless you lose it, you are drunk etc. Cash is better than credit card.

I use a USA origin chip and signature (Citi) MasterCard credit card frequently in Brazil for purchases and have yet to have any issues; I do this because the card has no foreign transaction fees, gets an excellent FX rate (I just got 3. 98 per USD for a restaurant purchase made on May 7th) and I get 2 x AA miles per USD spent at restaurants.

I doubt if that is true, but when I checked that out with Visa they said they have experienced so much fraud in Brazil that they have placed Brazil on their highest fraud alert scale and they no longer deal with many banks. Just something to think about for your next trip to Rio.

This and others are some thoughtful responses. My initial response was to steer Hotrod10 towards a group of countries where he could go find what interested him for himself. Otherwise, I think this subject can go on about other countries for awhile.

The fact is Mabs is not some unique international phenomenon.

Not S America, but the Blue Marlin at Hotel Del Rey in San Jose Costa Rica. Not sure if it has out door seating. Also Key Largo, Sportsmen's Lodge. Go to the Gringo Gulch area of San Jose.

Panama City, Panama has Habano's cafe. It has outdoor seating.

I checked with hotel Canada in copacabana saying, I will stay for 5 days and maybe bring some guest for 1 day in middle. Reception guy says when you check in you should tell both guest name. You cannot bring some girl in middle and he shows the board "sexual tourism not allowed".

Same board is there in portobay, Windsor group of hotels etc.

Please help me with some girl friendly hotels in copacabana area (Hilton Marriott etc is too expensive for me).

I need to stay in that hotel for 3-4 days and bring girl in middle for a day.
    Guys,

complain all the time that they cannot find this or that or that reading through posts is a lot of work.

The moderators of this forum created topical threads for a reason, but few posters use them. I will answer your girl-friendly question in the Rio de Janeiro. Hotels & Apartments.

    (1) PortoBay is nice stayed there 3 nights. They call your room when you have a guest and take their information. In front of beach and great value $120-$150/ night.

    https://www.portobay.com/en/hotels/r...io-de-janeiro/

    (2) Pestana. Stayed night here in February. Nice $100+ nice hotel too!

    (3) Rio Orthon Palace. Remember staying here few years ago and no issues.

Dean's Gold strip club has a few Brasileiras working there. I was there last month. Great place top talent from Colombia, Cuba and Florida. Two Brazilians I know personally from Rio Termas. $20 lap dances for duration of a song, regular US bullcrap. It costs $500 USD to smash for 30 minutes in private room. My strategy would be try to talk to them and arrange for outside non strip club hustle prices. Saturday is the big night. Should be able to negotiate $200 USD-300 for hotel treatment. A bit much for Brazilian bunda but for US it was worth it..

Thermae in Bangkok is just a pickup bar like Mabs. It is not a termas or place you have sex on premises.

Returning to Rio last week in May.

Thanks to the members that responded to my question about another MABS. OK, so I didn't ask the question clearly. I was under the influence of a entire bottle of a Robert Mondavi cab wine. Thanks, but I should of said I'm not returning to Asia. I'm not looking for a bar were the girls are walking around nude or in their underwear. Places like that are great but not something I'm looking for. Most members on this Rio site have been to MABS. Its a bar like no other. It has outside seating for at least 100 customers. If you show up between 10-11 or even later you find yourself a table, order a drink, and in my case start scouting for a pretty chica that will go to your apartment for an hour for 200 r or less. The cheapest I've got was 150 r for a young beauty. Then the next night I picked the same girl up with her girl friend for 150 r each. I don't think a place like this exists in Europe Like I said at my age Asia is too hard to get to. I'm not a high roller so Prices at Mabs is right down my alley. I'm just curious if any members know of another place like this in South America (I should of said that). I hope I didn't make too big of a fool of myself with my dumb question.

    Hotrod.
