Agree with all of this. And I would add that having a poor grasp of Portuguese isn't the hindrance it once was. Most Termas now allow clients to bring their cell phones into the club. You don't have to hide them anymore. With Google translate, having a conversation with a GDP who doesn't speak your language is much easier than it used to be. Yeah, it sucked when Help closed and the semi-pros are harder to find. But Brazil is still the best destination for our little hobby, imo. Next week I'll be taking my fifth trip this year.

I'm not sure that's a fair statement. However, it's true that the monger scene in Rio has changed. Some blame the Olympics and Rio's government's desire to be "respectable". Is it true? Who knows? IMHO, when they closed HELP, it was an attempt to send a message to the world that Rio was no longer a sex tourism destination. I assure you that local Carioca men have no trouble finding GDP's (garota the programma); it's the non-Portuguese speaking foreigner who is challenged.

Is it the paradise it once was? Heck no. But that does not mean that you should not go. However, you do need to temper your expectations. I think what's happened is that the the "semi-pro" (the cashier or waitress who hangs out in bars and turns tricks for extra cash) has been driven underground. The hardened pros you mention are what is still easily visible. Similarly, Termas and Clinicas offer a more "clinical" experience (pardon the pun). If you are looking for a true GFE in Rio, you need to look deeper and accept that it's going to take time hanging out in bars and clubs and picking up girls just like you would at home. The only difference is that once chemistry is established, the question of price quickly comes up in the conversation.

With the closure of HELP the scene has changed but you can always get GFE in Rio you just have to relax and give in to the fact it may take a little work, your radar must be on at all times. Now I don't know if you monger alone or with friends. I tend to find GDPs in Termas to be a good find If you session with one who give you good service and good vibe get her number and invite her after hours to your place. If you have friend (s) traveling with you expand your environment to Regular Clubs or go to the LAPA area or explore the Barra the Tijuca area clubs. Cellphone Translator Apps can help if you are a Non-Portuguese speaking and I can tell you spend time with Pimsular or Rossetta Stone and learn as much as possible even the smallest amount of language learning can help and the appreciate you trying to learn no matter how weak you language skills are.

The Rio club scene has basically been destroyed by the city over the last eight years......I would suggest checking out 4 x4 (Centro) and Solarium (Jardim Botanico) first. I like the party scene at 4 x4. You can expect to pay around US $ 120-$125 for the girl and entrance. If you arrive early and session with a girl at 4 x4 before 6, you will save the entrance fee of about US $ 20. Since you will likely want to stay near the beach Copacabana or Ipanema, you might want to check out Centaurus and Monte Carlo in the same area which cost more money. Centaurus has some fans. It at one time was known for the hottest girls who appealed to Americans and Euros. It's hit or miss now.

The biggest problem with a Rio hookers is that they have a different service for locals and other one for gringos.

With locals they do everything they ask for and with gringos they like to cheat on time and services.

Given there has not been a lot of travel reports for some time and local politics has been discussed in the forum, I suppose you can be forgiven for a newby question like the above. No, politics hasn't changed the local mongering scene. The election is not final until Oct. 28 and no one knows if anything will change.

The Rio club scene has basically been destroyed by the city over the last eight years. There are some freelancers at Mabs and sprinkled elsewhere. That doesn't mean you can't have a blast in Rio both mongering and touring.

Termas are the closest thing to clubs. They however are not exactly like clubs. You change into a flimsy, terrycloth robe in the locker room. When you hit the bar area, dozens and dozens of girls parade around in various states of undress. Unfortunately in my opinion, tattoos and excessive fake breasts and asses are more common than years past. You can buy drinks for the girls if that's your thing. You can chat with the girls and many times play kissy face and grab-ass. When you are ready for the rodeo, tell the girl "vamos". You will go to a clean room (cabine) on the premises. Now if you don't like the business model of termas, you can try to get phone numbers and get a girl to come over. Don't expect more than a two hour meeting. In the last ten-fifteen years, Rio has become a transactional by the hour scene. I wouldn't rule out casas (in Rio they are called prives), but they require some planning and walking.

You can do searches by entering Medellin and Rio. That's where you will get a good detailed contrast. I haven't been to Colombia in years. I can only say that I enjoy the beach and food scene in Rio de Janeiro. Rio is far more cosmopolitan. If it's your first time, I highly recommend an excursion to the Christ statue on Corcovado mountain. Sugarloaf mountain is fine too. Most Americans and Euros prefer Rio November through April. I would avoid the June and July simply because the days are too short.

400 Reais is much for girls in Mab's as the going price is 200 Reais for girls there. A little negotiating will make them come down in price and it won't take much time to negotiate a better price. Some girls start with asking like 300 Reais or so but will come down to 200 Reais quite easily. Too bad that you were in such a hurry that you didn't have the time to do the negotiating.
