Beware of Arena hotel in Copa! Definitly NOT GF. I've booked there for 4 nights 3 years ago, but only stayed one, after reception told me that my (very decent) GF was not registered while checking in, and she had to move before 6 am.

If today is 3.15 they will give you 3.15. It is in Prado Junnior next to Mabs, the name of the bar: O crack dos galetos it is open very late at night. Because late at night all the change agencies are closed.

In the day, the best place to change money if you have dollars is (Avenida nossa Sra. Copacabana, 371.). They always add 0. 10 reais that means if today 1 dollar is 3. 15 they will give you 3. 25.

Most other agencies will give you the same rate as www.xe.com.

If you give info what time you come to Brazil where you stay in Copacabana, your answer will be better answered.

When you arrive in Rio de Janeiro, you want to save up more money, it is better to take the bus. It is only 16 reais (http://www.riogaleao.com/transportes...amento/onibus/). There is WiFi and air conditioner in the bus. The driver will put your luggage in the boot, he will give you a paper so that you give it back to him when you get your luggage back. Just tell the driver where you want to get off. When he arrives close to the place he will call you.

If you don't want to bother taking the bus and you prefer to take a taxi, just take the official taxi in the airport. When you exit there are many official taxis that line up. Always ask the driver to use the counter.

Avoid any guy in the airport that try to offer you a taxi service, you can get ripped off by them. Their work is to find their suckers.

P.S. I haven't been living in Rio de Janeiro for a long time, but I learnt from experience when I travel to Brazil, I have been travelling to Brazil for 5 years. I speak Portuguese like Portuguese people. I always try to speak as Brazilian as possible. Many Brazilians think I am from Brazil when I speak Portuguese that's why my experience is different.

Don't forget, being expatriate, a retired and a simple tourist or a local are 4 different things. I mean if you only stay one or few weeks in Rio de Janeiro don't be cheap for few dollars, just pay good service and don't throw money for shit and have the best experience of your life and don't let people to rip you off before going back to the USA for work. You travel miles to fuck the best quality girls not the average girls you see in your daily life. If you stay as a retired or expatriate I can't advise you I am not an expatriate or retired in Brazil, I can only advise you as a expatriate in Japan or sex tourist in Brazil.

Every taste and experience is different, so just take the most useful info for you. Some people prefer 4 by 4, some prefer Cancun or other termas, some VM or trash clubs.

I just share my experience. Follow it or not, it is up to you take the most useful info to you. I don't have to tell you what is the best for you because I am not you.

Enjoy as much as possible in Rio de Janeiro and report your experience later so that the forum get updated everyday.

I am Quebecois (Canada). So sorry for my English.

The Macau board used to have some good info, and Macau at least used to be a pretty good place. It's more Saunas (think termas) and fishbowl-type places and freelancers, but if you're over that way, it was worth a look. (Note this is a response to "Former Portuguese colonies" not Africa, obviously)

    Anyone mongered in Portugal.

One of my GDP mini relationships is headed over there, and I plan to take her bullfighting in Spain.

Now, as I said, this is all so pedestrian. Has anyone here hired an escort to say, seduce a non pro? Like, pick out a rich college girl, and get a bisexual hot girl to seduce her into a summer threesome in Buzios where the summer lovers impregnate the rich girl.

Financial planning 101: knock up a rich girl without a prenup.

Now that is a mongering level of difficulty that would be worth achieving!
I used to live in Portugal 2 years and speak Portuguese like Portuguese People, last year I was in Portugal 3 weeks, I've never had trouble picking up regulars in Portugal, Portugal is one of the best places to pick regulars in Europe but it is not the best place to monger in Europe. Portuguese girls are way different than Brazilian girls, Portugal is not a third world country. Don't act like an American jerk because European people are proud people and people have a good living standard. So they don't care if you are from the USA or Canada.

Speaking the local language is the key to success. If you speak, try not to speak like Brazilians. If you are used to Brazilian accent, there are some accents you won't understand, you will think they speak another language. My first time in Brazil, many brazilians had difficulty understanding me.

Life in Portugal is way cheaper than Rio de Janeiro but sex is more expensive than Rio de Janeiro. One hour is 150 euro.

I've never been to Africa and never been interested in mongering in Africa, so I can't tell you.

If you want more info about Portugal, it is better to to go the Portugal section.

That's twice you had some smart shit to say to me when I was speaking to another board member. Not sure what your issue is, but I will email you directly so we can talk like men. I don't play the tough guy act behind a keyboard!!

If you need to know where to change money after arrival in Copa or in Centro, tell me where you are staying and I can tell you where to change money. Been going there for 11 years.
Your helpful info is very much appreciated. I will be staying at Arena Copacabana Hotel. Where are the money exchange places nearby? With all the other great info regarding t31,502, Florida, t56 and 4 x4, I am looking forward to my first trip to Rio. Thank you all.

When you arrive in Rio, you can use ATM, you will pay 24 reais fee to the Brazilian bank.

When I changed, when I had no reais with Me, I paid 24 Reais to the Brazilian bank, 1% of the amount I withdrawn for the change fee, and 3 dollars for the withdrawal. We all have different banks so the fees will be different to you, everyday rate changes.

Just change few dollars in the USA, Take 100 reais it is all you need even less like 80 reais for the taxi. . From my experience, I only bring 16 reais for the bus when I arrive in the day I change in avenida nossa sra de Copacabana when I arrive at night I change the dollars I need for the night in prado junior.

The official taxi cost around 65 and 80 reais from the airport to Copacabana. (depends on the day time).

You can also use radio taxi that are inside the airport that cost around 100 reais and 130 reais, depends on the company, you can book before you arrive in Rio de Janeiro with your card.

I never took uber from the airport to copacabana. I only took uber from copacabana to the airport, it is around 38 -42 reais. Because I can't call uber from the airport, uber is not allowed to pick at GIC (rio de janeiro airport).

Enjoy Rio and don't forget to report later.

Lets call you king of the experts, Do you like to attack everybody's post. The carioca subway is only 5 - 6 minutes from 4 by 4, it is not far by foot. You speak good Portuguese, you go to 4 by 4 all the time, you know the subway very well, all newbies must listen to you. I don't care if people don't follow my advise because it is not my problem. Again you are right everybody must follow your advise and go to Uruguayan and they will gain 30 seconds walk and one more stop for Copacabana. P.S. When it is 11.30 I just take the fucking uber. I don't have time for subway. Everybody can use the small empty streets leading to Uruguaina. It is very safe at 11 pm.

You are right, we can't fix stupid, better to give up so I give up.

Not a big deal now attack other posts in other sections. Because any attack to my post won't be responded Because I am waving the white flag. You are right. Again you are right again newbies must follow your advise.

Copa is a big place. 8-P.

If you are staying at the west end of the beach (Posto 5) , I have used those on the beach end of rua Xavier de Silveira with no problems.

"Blame it on Rio" behind the parked Chevrolet and "Red walls" on the left hand side.

    https://www.google.fr/maps/@-22.9770...7i13312!8i6656

Like I said before, my US dollars netted me a better rate than the "official" (xe.com) rate.

That was not the case with my home country Euros.

The best place to change money if you have dollars or euros is (Avenida nossa Sra. Copacabana, 371.). Ex if today is 1 dollar for 3.16 officially on www.xe.com, they will buy you 3.26 for 1 dollar and they will sell 1 dollar for 3.30. They always add 0. 10 reais over the official amount for every dollar, so if you change 100 dollars, you receive 326 reais instead of 316 reais (official amount today).

Just change in your home country the money you need to use for the first day.

Changing money in the airport is not interesting. They sell reais more expensive and you also have to pay taxes.
