The best place to change money if you have dollars or euros is (Avenida nossa Sra. Copacabana, 371.). Ex if today is 1 dollar for 3.16 officially on www.xe.com, they will buy you 3.26 for 1 dollar and they will sell 1 dollar for 3.30. They always add 0. 10 reais over the official amount for every dollar, so if you change 100 dollars, you receive 326 reais instead of 316 reais (official amount today).

Just change in your home country the money you need to use for the first day.

Changing money in the airport is not interesting. They sell reais more expensive and you also have to pay taxes.

Hell no they will rob you blind. I remember when the real was 4 to 1 and they were only giving 3. 25 R to $1.00. So I could only image now.

With Uber I paid 42 reais from Copacabana to the airport. I never took uber from the airport, the cab is more expensive that's why it is better to only take the official taxi that use a counter.

Some of your information is NOT correct. The metro / trains stop running after 12.00. If a guy wants to take the train, last train will be around 11.50. You should leave 4 x4 by 11.35 to be sure.

AND, from 4 x4, go to Metr Uruguaiana. It is only 5 minutes from 4 x4. Carioca station is a 10 minute walk from 4 x4.

In regards to safety, I find centro to be just as safe as most big cities in the USA. If Mrusa plans to use UBER, then don't worry, you are good to go. It's cheap and convenient. Order the UBER after your shower and wait outside.

Thank you. Yes, I plan to only take the UBER or taxi. Around 11 to 12 mid-night, simply take the taxi and get home. Want to avoid any unnecessary risks.

I always take the subway in Carioca, the way is more or less the same, the carioca is only 5 minutes from 4 by 4, I know it I went to 4 by 4 50 times only for this trip from June to August.

Not a big deal. You want to take the subway in Uruguayan, just take it, I take the subway and also get off in carioca.

Now I am in Sao Paulo enjoying UBER.

My info is corect, the subway close at 12 , that means there are still metros running but the desks are closed and the door is closed at 12:00. 4 by4 is only 5 - 6 minutes from Carioca by foot. Centro is safe. Just avoid empty places. Around 10 pm, the streets start being empty.

I have been to Rio about 20 times. That's trips to Rio, not just trips via metro to centro.

It's a 5-6 minute walk from 4 x4 to the Uruguaiana metro station. I did it plenty of times in the past 11 years. Here is an example from google maps. The carioca station is farther away from 4 x4.

I went to Rio many times, I often get off in Carioca to go to the termas, google is not always correct, carioca is only 5 minutes from the termas, why going to Uruguayan if carioca is also close to the terma, I don't need to have one more stop to go to Copacabana, yes I know but you can always book many train trips in advance so don't need to go to the desk and line up, if there re always train coming, because they have to terminate their path. From Carioca to leme by taxi is only 28. From Uruguayan is 32 reais. With uber 16 to 20 reais more or less.

Rio is not Tokyo, but the subway in Rio de Janeiro work very well. Other transports in Rio really suck, I often go to carioca around 11:55, and I take the subway and arrive in copacabana around 12:20. The trains continue working, because they have to finish their path, but the desks and the door are closed at 12. Yes like everywhere we have to go earlier, not only in Rio. I just said the subway closes at 12 so after midnight it is no use going to the metro. This problem is not only in Rio de Janeiro, Even in Tokyo if you don't go early you might miss the train because the line is fucking long in Tokyo.

It's a longer walk from 4x4 to the Carioca stop. Don't believe me, do a search.

Plus, if a guy doesn't have a metro card paid in advance, then you risk missing the last train. That's why I said go earlier. Plus, if you wait to leave 4 x4 until 11.50, they might have the gate closed already.
I have been there before 12.00 in the past and there was no train coming. Rio is NOT the USA, Europe, or Japan where most trains run on time / schedule. They can and will close the gates when they want.

Night fare taxi, after midnight if there is no more subway, from centro to Copacabana (leme). Ex Prado junior. 28 - 32 reais.

When I arrive at Rio de Janeiro, I take the bus to copacabana, it is only 16 reais, they stop in many places in Copacabana. Just ask the driver to stop when the bus is close to your place.
