So I am not the only one going around hoping a machine works I guess.

Then how in god's good name does one withdrawal cash here in Rio? Does Google Pay or Samsung Pay work? Because my card is not co operating with me. Or the chip is damaged and the machines won't read it (which I doubt because everywhere I use the tap card option to pay and it works perfectly)?

I only need the physical cash for paying to see girls outside the termas. How else can I pay the girls? Does Western Union work (making them download the app)? Or Google Pay? Samsung pay? Help please?

In a perfect world the US Consulate would understand the primacy of happiness and have a compassionate hookers cash advance or voucher facility (limited to three pops or Real 500 daily) rather than wasting a trillion dollars a year on weapons in losing wars. You can never have enough backup cards (only take one or two on person) or fast and easy to use wire services, all of which needs to be in place before you travel. And always make sure you store your login stuff in a secure, encrypted container like Bestcrypt or better still, a secure hardware device and assume you will lose your device (s).

I just figured out that my chip in my card is fried and dead. The tap function works (it is different from the chip since that uses a strip). But the chip doesn't work. That's why the machines here in Rio don't read my card.

I have a local account with Banco Itaú Unibanco S. A (100% time it works), but I also use Butterfield bank in Bermuda and HSBC and have zero problems. A variety of cards is always good backup for nomads.

1. I don't know about Cap One cards, but using airport ATMs is a costly pleasure. I use Schwab that reimburses ATM fees completely around the world, but still avoid airports if I can.

Where are the best ATMs in Rio? I have Charles Schwab too. But some of the local banks don't read my card. Can't get cash right now. The card is fine because I still use it in supermarkets and restaurants without any problems.

And is there any electronic way to pay girls in case cash can't be obtained? I know everyone in Brazil has that app but I'm not Brazilian and can't use it I suppose. My bank account is US.
