Having twenty years of experience in Brazil, I would tell you to not dismiss the importance of economic conditions on the supply of girls. However, there are other factors.

For one, the city closed Help Disco a few years ago. The city of Rio has also been very successful in diminishing the action along Copacabana beach. Because of that less people are interested in picking girls in terma except few tourists, most people just go there to have a drink, watch and laugh especially brazilians, only the entrance price has remained stable for many years. Now many girls prefer to work for cheaper because they make money for sure so they stay in their area and work in the prives or some small bars in their area. Rio is a big city there are many prives and clubs that are not as famous as places that are not touristy like barra, copa and centro. And known only by people living in the neighborhood but it is impossible to know every place in rio, people only hear copacabana and centro.

It's also sad just to see the sheer number of Tier 1 termas drop. This drives home the fact that for mongers, there's good and bad that comes with an economic crisis. The cash in your pocket might buy you more, but if the locals can't afford it, then overall the scene is going to suffer and will shrink. I think there's a tendency to overvalue to impact of tourism when it comes to supporting the mongering infrastructure. The truth is that local wealth is far more crucial to keeping the industry greased, and if the locals can no longer afford to buy some pussy, then termas and other sex establishments are going to close.

Currency, which directly feeds the prices for tourists, is a very important factor to this whole discussion. While recent levels of 3+ to 1 seem to be better than just a few years ago, the ridiculous price inflation of the Tier 1 termas suggests to me cartel pricing. They no longer have the intense competition from the sex scene on Copacabana. There is also the discussed crazy phenomenon that when demand falls off the termas raise their prices. Regardless of how you argue about currency plus prices, I was paying less than a US $100 to pull girls from 4 x4, Monte Carlo and yes Centaurus at various times in the late 90's / early 2000's. My opinion is the Brazilian currency is still overvalued relative to the local price of almost everything.

Dr. Clitoris makes an interesting point about younger Cariocas having different preferences and they might prefer different sex venues over the termas scene. I would be careful to not overemphasize this point. I can't see how a group of Brazilian buddies would not enjoy hanging out at the Centro termas whether they pulled a program or just drank and played grab-ass with the girls. Me thinks, the ancient Romans and Greeks did the same thing 2000 years ago. Again, it seems like local prices have doubled in just over ten years and there hasn't been a commensurate rise of money in the locals' pockets.

How does one say that the local Brazilians don't have money and that's hurting the sex industry, but the prices seem to continue to rise. There must be other factors.

Mongering Scene in Brazil is pretty much borderline dead because, Overall Brazil is still very expensive to monger, plane tickets to Rio is Expensive, Food and Hotel / Apartments are somewhat expensive and the girls are expensive when you compare it to Thailand. If Brazil was cheaper like back in the days, Gringos will pick up the slack. Locals can't afford to spend money on bunda in termas since Brazil is in a recession, and a Influx of Gringos would fill the void!.

With the decline in action and Copa at night, I am seriously thinking of staying in centro for the first time on my next vacation. Has anyone ever stayed at a gpd friendly hotel or a nice apartment in Centro? I figured I might as well stay down there and try to have a prive, level 2 terma or VM girl stay the night with me. Plus, from cenrto it will be pretty easy to take the bus to different clubs and bars instead of traveling all the way from Copa.

My last few visits I have stayed in Centro as I found it more convenient as I could visit a prive, go back to my apartment, then go to another one or a boate later, rather than go all the way back to Copa or find some place to hang around until I was ready for another session. I found it easier to visit the beach when I wanted to rather than stay in Copa and hassle with going back and forth to Centro.

I used airbnb.com and got nice studio or 1-bedroom apartments for $35-$40 a night.

The local wealth is crucial to keep the terma's and mongering infrastructure in general, moreover when the local currency is as strong as actually.

Wether the local currency fall down, foreigners should be support the whole business as it was in the past (70% gringos with 30% locals in tier 1).

Besides, during last years I observe a tendency's changing from terma's culture to the internet girls and private parties at motels and residences (local young guys).

It's difficult to see many rich / famous Brazilian guys (CEO's, journalists, football players, singers, like I used to see and chat 15/20 years ago) in the termas, they take other safest / private options.

The main risk in my personal opinion is that terma's culture (understand as an old carioca's value) is decreasing because new generations like other kind of things.

Can you be clear about the rate? The entrance is 70 reais with consumption and 330 reais for one hour. There is no entrance fee just minimum consumption fee.

Did you use some suite or other things to get R460.

Nice intel on Pestana and Emporio in Ipanema, yes I have heard for some time now that these places have had sightings of GDP's.

As reported, Pestana has plenty of GPs.
Emporio always had GPs. In the old days many Emporio GPs continued the evening at Help. IMO the percentage of GPs at Emporio are higher than it used to be >10 years ago. The GPs I've seen at Emporio have just been average looking GPs.

Ok so 3 places not usually reported here where GDP's can be found. Dolce Vita for sure, have been there before and met many GDP's, actually the manager who is on Facebook has close to 1500 friends mostly women so you have to know most of those girls are GDP's. You can receive visits at the social areas of the hotel as restaurants, bars and lobby with no need to change the reservation. But so the person can access Guests areas as pool, rooms, gym and Jacuzzi you need to register as Guest.

I have been staying in apartments since 2002 but I would like to change it up a little and have a pool and access to a roof top party right in the hotel would be nice plus the prices look good too.
