So what's next back to the "good old days" and "make Brazil great again" and the fascist dictatorship of President Joćo Goulart?
Worldwide this act was seen and condemned as a massacre, not just IMHO.

IMO what happened now in Jacarezinho is different. Heavily armed bandits are not innocent citizens.

It's not clear yet, but there may have been some innocent victims. I doubt the police will be held accountable, for such unlawful killings.

The numbers are off like many other countries, multiple by 1.5 x or 2 x.
My advice would be find some Brazilian pros near you. After you blow your load you will forget about going to BR LOL.

After self-answering some of these questions and it's still a go, I would just plan your budget to meet your appropriate time frame for staying in Brazil and then add like maybe 20-30% extra for unexpected COVID travel type contingencies. But, as you say, you do have "English speaking friends I can hang out with", providing they come through for you.
Yes, with the exchange rate 5:1 and maybe close to 6:1 in some exchange shops, it certainly does present a very salacious and enticing dilemma.
I think many MBs here are ferociously considering, your very same predicament. "Blue balls" and COVID-19 be damned...kkkk!
Looking forward to those field reports...maybe! Good Luck!

Still, if you're you fully vaccinated, I'd pull the trigger even though it's still risky, supposedly. You can rent a simple room / apartment in Barra or Centro for $20-25 a day.
If you're not vaccinated, though, I wouldn't even consider going to Brazil, as much as I take my hat off to brave Vagabundo, who you should contact personally IMHO.
Doesn't matter how healthy you think you are, it's been killing the record number of the Brazilian young lately.
You can buy the best travel insurance, but hospitals in Brazil are in deep shit right now. And I don't think you can be repatriated back home with Covid.
Things are supposedly trending in the right direction, though, so who knows where we're going to be in a few weeks.

Posts: 1493In about 40 days I'm at a crossroads
The family house will be sold (where I live). So the decision is either:
Find something here (not hard but expensive).
Hang out overseas until I can get into one of the various Gov housing programs (HUD, FHA, USDA, etc).
Or make a clean break. I have a Visa it's ironic I got it in 2016 and even paid extra for expedited service and now I don't even need it.
5:1 exchange is better than when I went in 2016.
I would be starting from scratch though I do have some English speaking friends I can hang out with. I found out about Tinder too late while I was down there and of course even though Tinder has opened up profiles to everybody, everywhere, the women won't talk to you (at least not to me) because I'm not in country.
Budget would be roughly what would get with UI since I can apply anytime under the original CARE Act rules which means no work or job search requirement and I'm 1099.
That runs out late August at least the extra weekly amount but that's likely to get extended who knows.
Seems like it's a good time to head to Brazil, thoughts?
