Does anybody know about the centro casas? This question was asked last year, but I cannot seem to locate the answer?

I think the answer was they are closed Christmas Day and the weekend, otherwise during the week it is business as usual in centro.

If the weather is good there will be a lot of people on the beach, in the restaurants and the bars.

Hopefully no GP is working on Christmas Eve. I espect they will be their with family, friends or in the church, and not in the street or in a bar selling their p*$$$.

Christmas holiday means a lot to Brazil, beign the largest catholic country in the world. Unless you spend it with some brazilian friends I guess it will be quite boring.

    Dengue fever alert

Much more Dengue fever is expected this season than last. Article (in Portuguese, by the Ministry of Health) detailing the levels of Aedes agypti infestation in various major Brazilian cities (Aedes agypti carries the disease):

    http://portal.saude.gov.br/portal/ap..._NOTICIA=11951

Interesting that Manaus is one of the least infested places. As for state capitals, there are alerts in Porto Velho and Rio Branco.

The market on top of Urguaiana metro station centro has tons of that type of stuff. They are fake, not the real ones of course. Dirt cheap as well. When the Police do a sweep they disappear for a day or 2, but get restocked quite quickly.

    Thanks, Slutlover.
Another excellent tool, I just tested it myself and works perfectly. My friend down there says the rate is accurate.

There's a beautiful unpretentious theatre next to the race track. But I recommend Catacumba Park for a very pleasant stroll with (or without) a garota . . . interesting statues and history on the gentle walk to the summit - which then gives stunning views - usually not very busy so can be quite romantic. Plus a lot of girls have never been there so it's nice to surprise and pleasantly impress. There's also the Botanics (good day out - more impressive than the average botanic gardens) and that photogenic little park - whose name escapes me for a moment - built by an architect as his own retreat under the gaze of Corcovado - great for photography, painting, relaxation, picnics and a coffee away from the bustle; but these two places are more of a problem to get to, being on the north side of Lagoa (main road gets full of fumes and it is so posh your paid-for partner will stand out like a sore thumb). Catacumba however is almost walking distance if you follow the lake anti-clockwise from Copa.

    Cleaning maids ..........

I need a service to literally scrub the floors, walls, etc. of an apartment in Copa prior to the tenant taking possession.

Not a job for a day-maid as it requires thoroughly cleaning several rooms, bathrooms, walls, etc.

Anyone know a good service that would do this even for a higher price?

    Thx.

I might try a maid of mine.

Know also a few girls that can do it. There used to be one who used to do a deal cleaning apartment and cleaning your pipes. But she is gone ........

Now please don't be cheapskates. I had people being pissed that the maid charged R$ 5 more for a one time job, then she would charge me on a yearly basis twice a week. Be reasonable or a bit generous.

Otherwise, I am sure most rental services have their own cleaners.

PM me with all contact info.

This is the neighborhood I usually stay in. For the past 7 years I have either stayed on Rua Santa Clara or one block north Rua Figueiredo de Magalhaes. So looks like mid point so I can go either way.

This last trip I stayed on Figueiredo de Magalhaes as some of you know because you sent me PM's telling me you know the apto. This last trip reminded me of a poster who several years ago asked a question if one could stay in a girl friendly hotel and never leave it. Apparently he was concerned about safety. He figured he could eat in the hotel, drink in the hotel and have escorts delivered when needed.

Well I didn't do exactly this but this last trip I pretty much stayed on Rua Figueiredo de Magalhaes, had escorts delivered several times, I hung out at the Marriott pool and bar every day which is on the same street and went to the swing club 2A2 which is on Rua Figueiredo de Magalhaes. I think I went to Balcony 2 or 3 nights.

While it doesn't sound too exciting I had a great time, something very different than previous trips where I'm all over the place.

Yes you're right, I also like passing through Lagoa during Christmas time to see the floating Xmas tree in the Lagoa.

It's about the only time I see Lagoa recently is going to or from the airport. Years ago I used to go to Chikos bar and Mistura Fina in Lagoa all the time but both places are gone now. Gotta find some new places in Lagoa, it's a nice area. I think there is a Nuth there now, maybe I'll check it out next trip.

Kice-Suco (Copa) to Galećo R$ 38. Exactly what I paid last time (plus a small tip).

I guess the meters should work equal.
I've seen scams (a long time ago), e.g the driver had the meater connected to a button on his gear stick. When he changed the gears he took the opportunity to press the button and the fare took a big jump.
It was very obvious what he was doing, but the situation solved itself.

Wherever I go in Brazil I have the habit of never entering a taxi before me and the driver agreed on a price. It works well as long as you know the correct fares.
