If there was any doubt about the social / political agenda in closing help, the following picture says it all. Help was closed in January of 2010. The protection wall was up in the same month. By March the building had been gutted. Now. 10 months later, note how much of a rush they are in to get the museum built. No activity in the week I've been here. There is no doubt that the Governor wanted to get rid of Help and when I was down there in December I still heard of the museum plans, but they are in no rush. Plus now they got a whole lot more to worry about with the destruction due to flooding.

It look like they are making about as much progress as on the 9/11 memorial in New York.

I guess the only difference is that, if I was going to tear down a building paying rent voluntarily, versus having a terrorist fly planes into it, I wouldn't tear it down and give up a year of revenue, until I was ready to build. But then, this is government, and Brazilian at that. A sidenote: The term "red-tape" comes from Portugal, a government model that Brazil was modeled after.

"They" never said there was a rush for this. The legal process to compusorily acquire the land took ages. However, for those anxious to see the new museum, I have heard that work will begin within the next few weeks.

Yeah that is her, that is an old video because she is much skinnier now. Anyone know if her little sister ever recovered? (for those who don't know. ALice has a little sister who was a carbon copy of her! Same gorgeous grey eyes, long hair, same skin tone. A number of years ago, the little sister got fucked up on drugs and jumped out of a window and was paralyzed I think from the waist down.) This was a good 9-11 years ago, I wonder she is doing now.

Tomorrow I'll be off to Brazil for a couple of months. One destination will be Manaus. One of the reasons I'll enjoy Manaus is this lady. She's a non-pro who actually lives in a very tiny village out in the Amazon forest.
