It's happened to me a few times, and I'm glad I had my passport card on me (the ID sized card you have the option to order with your passport).

To be caught in a love motel like the lido without a valid brasilian ID or a notarized copy of your passport can be a very unpleasant experience in a case of a police raid. It happened more than one time at Lido Hotel. You will bw arrested and taken for a you ID check (averigucao) in the police department.

Even you can brake the law and sneak into the places, play safe. In Sao Paulo this law is much more enforced as in Rio.

Brasilian law is very clear. Everybody has to be in possession of a valid proof of ID.

Honestly I never carry my passport slong for obvious reasons (unpleasant as it can be, better loose a P4 P opportunity than losing the passport somewhere, it will be more unpleasant for sure and you will blame having carried the passport to play safe).

It's a lot about tangara broklin massage and so on and I understand the regulars that spend a lot of time in SP like that and I will probably try that to, but is there anyone that goes to some caf / clubs to pickup.

I know caf Photo isn't among BM favorite but last time I was in SP I had some fun at a similar club, caf gaugin (I think the name was). Is that one still open, is there any places where you can party and pickup. Love story is that one still a picup place or?

Even if I am not (yet) 100 year old But never had to show any single piece of ID at Motel Lido, not even been asked for pre-payment. True I usually meet the girl in the reception area (whoever arrives first, waits) and get the room together. Girls are usually known at reception.

Nor the girls had to leave or show their ID at reception (3 to 4 star hotels) when coming to my room in my hotel, either with me or coming alone. 🛂.

I don't dispute ABG as he knows his business and of course better play safe, but seems the rule is not always enforced.

You even need ID, or for gringos a passport, if you want to visit some touristic landmarks in Sao Paulo.

An example comes easily to my mind: A few years ago I had the intention to visit the Altino Arantes Building (Torre Banespa) but I was unable to do it because I didn't have my passport with me. I had to come back the day after in order to take the elevator in order to enjoy the sightseeing at the top (Torre Banespa's mirante).

The same requirement applies to motels and hotels in Sampa.

I remember you even had to show an ID to get into a internet place and surf the net. When I complained the first time to the guy, he showed me the sign where it cleared stated a municipal law. I gave him a copy of my passport and that was the end of that.

It is worthy to mention that that this crazy lay only applies in SP. I never had issues in RJ in love motels. But I am a 50 yr old geezer who looks 60.

I'd like to see a discussion about the local love hotels.

There are some amenities, like a large jaccuzi, that I would certainly enjoy using in one, that is -really- hard to find in a proper hotel. At the same time, if a nice hotel that -has- large jaccuzi's in the rooms is known, I'd certainly look into it!

What are the 'better' ones in town, and is using one really not possible or advised, without speaking any of the language?

By law you cannot enter a motel without a valid ID! Copies must be certified by a public notary to be valid!

You can do as you wish but the law is clear that only notarized copies are valid documents.

Hotels Mercury are GP friendly. In fact several GP live in each of the three Mercury hotels that are located in Moema!

Made a reservation for Mercure Times Square (unfortunately can't go before October). It is close to everything I need I. E. clinicas, restaurants and bars. Maybe I won't even take any girls to my hotel, but it's nice to have that option, if needed.

I also tried to find out the hotel's girl policy in Moema. I sent an email to 15 hotels, but it seems that they are avoiding answering my questions. Most of them didn't answer me at all. Some of them didn't or pretended they didn't understand my question. After I clarified myself in more detail, I got some vague answers to contact the reception when I am already staying in their hotel or questions, how long time the visitor would be in my room? (how would I know?) or promoting their conference facilities for my visitors.
