Prices in Brasil, as in other countries, often go up when sufficient numbers of foreigners, usually Americans, pay over the going rate and then export that other American custom of tipping for everything. I have been in many situations in various countries where I decided to pay more. It may have been because of service, attitude or because I knew it meant a lot to the recipient.

However, I will walk away, and suggest everyone else does also when you are told you need to pay more because you are a rich gringo. I don't negotiate. I just walk away. If everyone walked away it would stop.

If a girl is good, I am helping her by giving her repeat business, not by overpaying, egregiously tipping, and stimulating her greed. Tipping is something I have only done very exceptionally.
