I wish I could monger more in Brazil, but I don't speak Porto, Brazil is more difficult and expensive to get to, the cost of living, especially in SP and Rio is higher, and summer time is too hot and humid. This is why I prefer cooler parts Colombia. But from a pure mongering perspective, Brazil wins. Hotter girls of all types and shapes, and better performance in bed (YMMV though).

I too prefer the diversity of Brazil. What is going on in Medellin in this period of time is unique, and we don't know how long it would last. The Brazilian girls will likely still be available years from now, just like the disappearance of Hope did not change that.

I tipped my host R50 before I left, but was surprised to see a 15% service charge on the bill. As SP doesn't have a tipping culture, I wonder if they also do that to the locals. I mentioned I already took care of my host with a cash tip, but they still insisted as this service charge was for the whole service staff team.

I'm honestly very surprised to hear that based on my experiences. The first time my host asked about the tip and suggested numbers of 10%, 15%, or 20% as examples it was very much phrased as a question. After that first time he always brought up the tip when settling the bill, but never again mentioned any specific numbers. As I mentioned in his case the money was well earned, but it definitely felt optional.

You are describing your state of mind that you had your regret. It's not a guarantee and it takes some time commitment and effort so I am not advising it.

I keep putting off my return trip to SE Asia in favor of more time in Brazil. My latest travel idea is a 3-month super trip from MIA to GRU to BKK to CGK to MIA. I am also thinking of taking a 2 to 3 week road trip with Valerie, my Scandallo favorite girl, up the Brazilian coast. Great Reportage, JZ. I am glad you liked the top 3 SP boates. I concur with most of what you reported, but I do have a few comments:

First on Tipping at Bomboa: I don't like it! In all my previous trips to SP I was never asked to tip my Bomboa waiter. I was assigned the same guy, Orlando, on my Oct / Nov 2021 trip & in my subsequent April / May 2022 trip. Orlando was a 1st class guy and he gave me great service. He never asked for a tip. Why should he? Brazil does not have a tipping culture. But I gave him 400 BR on my last night in Bomboa on both trips BECAUSE he deserved it. He earned it! But I should add that over the course of both of my previous 6 week trips, I spent a significant number of nights in Bomboa.

But something changed on my most recent Oct / Nov trip when I was assigned a different waiter, a younger guy. The new guy hit me up for tips every time I visited Bomboa. His service was still 1st class except for his constant begging / nagging for a tip. I never took heed of his girly suggestions, and he stopped making them after my first visit. But on that 1st night back in Bomboa, he put the touch on me as I was trying to pay my tab. I took him aside and I told him I would take care of him before I left town, but that I would not tip him on a nightly basis. He nodded his understanding of what I saying, but every time I went to Bomboa it was like "Groundhogs Day" the movie with his continued moaning for a tip every time I went to pay my tab. It became annoying and it began to piss me off because I knew he was not asking for tips from his SP customers, and I did not like being treated differently due only to my nationality. So finally, about 4 weeks into the trip, I had enough of the guy. I moved to a different location in the bar near the bandstand and requested that Orlando take over as my waiter. That was that. But before I left SP, I gave Orlando a generous tip for his excellent, PERSONALIZED, service. I did not give a tip to the young waiter because he did not listen to me and that pissed me off.

BTW, No other boate in SP allows its wait staff to ask customers for tips. In fact, I have never had anyone in any boate, terma or clinica ask for a tip and that includes my girls. No wait, come to think of it, one of my Scandallo girls and I used to smoke in the rooms upstairs, and on our 1st night together she suggested I give the cleaning worker 30 BR which I did because it sounded very reasonable and wise.
