I have been to SP a few times and always liked the Jardins area because many of the acompanhantes (escorts in ingles) live in the area so usually not too much time between when you call them and they show up. These are usually the more upscale garota de programas, usually BR 250.

The Mercure Jardins (as suggested in the past post) is a great hotel, and so is the St. Germain by the same chain in the area. You should also look at Transamerica flats in the area, and Othon flats. They are all GP friendly, and most of them are around US$100 a night. Some come with balconies which can be so very nice and almost all with internet, which usually costs more but is essential for me.

I have heard great things about other areas in SP (Moema, Itaim Bibi, Olimpa) but have not yet checked them out, so no comment.

It can be difficult to get around without basic Portuguese or Spanish in Brasil, I have seen too many "English only" folks being taken for a ride all the time. It can be particularly difficult to negotiate prices if you have no language skills.
