As mentioned by HoustonPlayer, not the best weeks after Christmas but you'll still find enough pros to have fun in Sao Paulo.

What you can do is make your links during the early days of December so you'll have companion after Christmas. Sao Paulo will have action. I banged a fantastic pro in the first week of January. I mean fantastic and fair price because there were less clients. A solid 9 for sure.

Buenos Aires will be a gosth town until the end of January. Argies go in massive flood to the beaches, and much more now. World Cup after parties are still crazy.

Between Christmas and New Years will be the absolute worst time to be in Brazil (actually South America). The week before Christmas should still be good but it won't pick up again until the 2nd week in January.

However, being Brazil that doesn't mean you can't still have a good time, just that there will be a considerably less number of girls working.

I think you should not book it in the first place if the host does not say the place offers heating in the listing. It is reasonable to cancel only if heating is listed but not available.

Absolutely Agree! (and ask Host if heating is not listed to confirm!) Overall, I agree don't go to SP during winter months if Heating is a priority in your life!

The Grand Hyatt is in fact the only hotel I can think of that does have good heating as someone as mentioned before. Not a bad location but not great either.

I'm sure the Grand Hyatt is not the only hotel with Heated rooms so hopefully others can attest to other hotels (and list) having heated rooms. It would certainly help others who need to travel to SP either for work or vacation.

The host won't give it to you but if you go to airbnb customer support and explain the situation they 99% of the time side with you and give you a credit refund towards another place...

I firmly believe that you should report to Airbnb all Issues as a result of your stay. You may not feel it makes a difference, but it does. As far as the individual Host I would state the obvious in my reviews. (i.e., This particular property has no heat and gets cold during the winter months, No AC during summer months, No running hot water, and etc.) A substandard review could prompt a Host to change / improve property.

If you have a good relationship with the Host let them know of your issues (I have known some to have made changes to properties per my suggestions) Some Hosts want to encourage rentals from (or target) certain customers whether from certain countries or certain socio-economic categories since they can charge more. (Example, Americans desire heat during the winter months, the host may consider adding heating devise (for future rentals) if you explained that it's an issue because they want more American guests.).

I would go as far as telling a Host I really like your property and want to return on my next vacation, but I can't due to (insert issue) "me freezing my ass of in your property". You're not going to change or influence every Host but even if you influence one it can help all.

I agree with The Cane if you can help it avoid coming during the winter months because now with everyone throwing in their 2 cents it seems BOTH airbnbs and hotels lack proper heating and this does bring problems especially when you have a girl over and your trying to do your thang but you're both shivering. When I brought my girl over we muscled through it during the first bang but after we both were freezing and couldn't relax. A lot of places have nice big ceiling to floor windows which give you a nice view of the skyline but also further lets the cold become a problem due to less insulation and no heat.

So seems like the grand hyatt is your safest bet. Location is very key for a good stay. You don't want any issues or packing and unpacking alot. You want to be near the places you frequent and you want to have access to UBER at any given hour as well as grocery stores and atms.

XXL, damn straight. It can get cold in SP, but Airbnb's are not the only accommodations without heat. The only 5 star hotel I know of with a working thermostat able to provide heat and maintain a comfortable in-room temperature is the Grand Hyatt. I have frozen my ass off in other hotels like the Intercontinental for example. No heat. Lesson learned. I pack warm insulated clothing in my suitcase when I travel to SP like the Patagonia Better Sweater as well as base layer Capilene and Merino wool long sleeve crew shirts. Valerie, my favorite girl, likes to wear one of my crew shirts when she comes over. On cold days it is like camping out in your hotel room.

I took my very first trip to Sao Paulo during the winter months down there. I didn't like the hotel I chose, and one reason was that it was pretty drafty and cool in the room. I just couldn't get warm enough in there. Sounds like it's a problem at hotels all over town. I decided to deal with the issue in the future by never going down there again during their winter months. I've stuck with that approach and its worked out fine.

I thought AirBnB required addresses. I am a periodic AirBnB host and they require a lot of information and identification. The problem is that with these types of web-based enterprises people learn how to take advantage of the system. I've also had problems with lousy A / C units in apartments. Uncomfortable nights sleeping leads to poor sex during waking hours.

It is an excellent idea for people to share good AirBnBs. When I first started going to Brazil, there were reliable middle men with their own websites advertising short-term apartments. You could call them up and they would put you in a place that met your requirements. AirBnB put most of these guys out of business.

Now Airbnb is simply into volume and they accept a certain percentage of bad experiences. I won't book an AirBnB apartment unless the unit and owner have many stellar reviews. Since people don't want to be publicly harsh in their reviews, you have to read between the lines. The stellar Airbnb owners can charge a bit more because of their good reputation.

I ended up finding something but this new place you had smile at a camera, go down two floors, walk around the building, take two elevators, renounce your citizenship and enter a 8 digit passcode to get into the room. The AC / Heating unit wasn't working that well and remember this was in September when SP gets cold so it was cold! Make sure if you go to SP between September. January that your place has good heating or else you'll be shivering. I ended up getting another place.

Airbnbs in SP can be really good value but I can see why alot of guys here prefer a hotel as you won't encounter these issues.

If you do get a AirBNB make sure you do ask if you can bring a "friend" over. Some host won't allow it so that can cause issues. Some girls will only go to a hotel so that can be another con. Had that happen this trip. So plan accordingly.

How could this be since you had already booked? Well, some hosts advertise generic apartments they don't own (no address on AirBnB you see), then they cancel all biddings but the highest one. In my case the host didn't even bother to cancel, I was left on the pavement with my luggage, scrambling to go online and book a hotel for the night. AirBnB should clean their act and require hosts to specify the address for each advertised apartment.

No more AirBnBs in SP for me, except the one I know already if it happens to be available but it has no heating and I was miserable in it for some days in June. I thought I had done the clever thing in buying a cheap electric fan but not only did the fan fall off the table in the middle of the night under its own vibrations, but I got a terrible skin rash on my face at night when it was placed the floor. I assume the fan was blowing up some chemical-laden dust from the carpeting. It took me 2 sleepless antihistamine-swallowing night before I noticed it was the electric fan that caused the rash.
