Just booked my flights and hotel for my first trip to Brazil.

Going to be arriving on 31st of January and leaving on 13th February, staying at Mercure Sao Paulo Moema Hotel.

Thanks to everyone who posts in this forum, I can't wait to repay the favour with some reports.

Hopefully I can meet up with some of you when I'm there.

Does anyone know of any gyms in Moema where you can join for a few weeks or pay as you go? Needs to have decently heavy free weights.

Ueber has started rejecting my credit card all of a sudden. It seems to be still working with Uebereats though. It also works 1 time out of 5 after I reenter it into the system. The alternative to Ueber in Brazil is Taxi 99 but it didn't work after I downloaded it. I see on the Google Play comments that it doesn't work with Android.

So if you come to Brazil bring a bevvy of credit cards to be sure to be able to use Ueber.

Weekend in So Paulo was well spent and now back home without catching COVID (shucks).

I look on the CPF as just the inviting rabbit hole into some godawful Third World morass of bureaucracy. There was a 2012 law known as the Gringo Phone Legalization Act or something which obliges them to give you a SIM if you wave your hands about a lot.

I went to Love Story late, late, late one night on my first visit to Sao Paulo. Got drunk off my ass! Only the second time in all my trips to Brazil. It was only so-so, although I did leave with somebody. A lot of the girls who work in other clubs throughout the city would show up at Love Story late. I never felt compelled to go back. But glad I did it once. I can check it off my bucket list.

If you go to a doctor they may even refuse to print out a proper invoice because their system can't print anything without the damned CPF, so you're left without a proper medical bill for your insurance claim. For other things not involving medical insurance you can use the CPF of a Brazilian friend if you have one. Maybe a garota will accept to "lend" you hers. I get a lower price on my Sagami condoms at Drogarai thanks to the CPF of a Brazilian acquaintance of mine. She doesn't know I'm bulk-buying condoms on her CPF but even if she knew she wouldn't care. I ordered something online, I needed the CPF to fill the order form, and when I went to pay the deposit to the merchant's bank account I needed the CPF. I tried to buy a plane ticket online on the Brazilian website of the airline, no way without a CPF. The list goes on. When I showed this to my Brazilian friends they told me never to use Ueber Blak as the price of Ueber Blak is open-end, and because Ueber Blak get paid for time as well as for mileage, they play for time.

Interesting information as I thought price was flat once trip is booked with whatever option of choice.

As for promo option, never seen it until arrived at Sao Paulo and it was awesome. Kkkkkk.

So Paulo, Lima and Mxico City by far best cities to eat in Latin America. Happy to share some great places in Sampa, if you let me know, what kind of culinary do you prefer. Needless to say that offering in meat, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian, Pizza, Portuguese and French food is awesome. There is even a good Thai with a Brazilian touch that is worth visiting.

If steaks are your thing, then you have to add Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

Yeah I absolutely love the food here, and you cannot beat the value. Most of my meals are like 25-30 reals for a small steak, fries, juice and / or coffee. And the juices are just insane, freshly squeezed, you have the option for with milk and added sugar (strawberry juice with milk is great). Lots of good sandwich options. Not a lot of street vendors here in Itaim, although I found one guy who was doing BBQ skewers outside a restaurant (actually it was all part of the restaurant technically, the guy was just an employee). 7 reals for a juicy BBQ beef skewer. My hotel has a nice buffet breakfast, even with the pandemic, it's a little restrictive because everything needs to be wrapped but its fine. Haven't tried too many upscale places, I mostly eat at locals joints, but there appears to be no shortage of fine dining and more expensive places as well. One novelty here I haven't seen anywhere else is they have buffets, but you pay per 100 g. It's actually a kind of interesting idea, gives you the selection and choice but at the same time you don't feel like you have to eat your money's worth. A lot of the nicer places are going to menu's only on your smartphone, which is a bit of the pain in the ass because it's not that easy to get a working SIM card as a tourist. Most places seem to want your tax number.
