Last time I was in Brazil, Bradesco was my favorite place to withdraw funds from an ATM. I could take 2,500 reals out at a time, for as many times as I wanted to. This was more than enough for me. They charged a fee, but my institution refunds all such fees. I recommend Bradesco, but don't use any machine out on the street. Only withdraw from spots where you can go inside to get your money. Santander was also good, but I could only withdraw 1,000 reals at a time at that bank's machines (again as many times as I wanted to).

My experience:

Santander had the most fee and worst conversion rate.

Bredesco is better, no fee for me, can take out multiple times in one day, conversion is based on yesterday's rate.

Banco do Brasil no luck getting money out like last year, they said its a glitch yea right.

Itau, no luck card does not work.

I hear what you are saying about the passports. While I keep it locked up, I am less concerned about it than in the old days. I am not an expert, but I think they have digital inventories and my consulate won't leave me hanging in the event it is stolen. Of course like a lot of things, it's the hassle of having it stolen. Some idiot still might think it has value and take it anyway.

Greetings to all. 1st time poster. 1st time to Brazil beginning 10 Sept. Thru mid Oct. Airbnb Moema for 11 days. Rio next for 10 ish days again airbnb in Lapa. I don't.

Know if the nightlife, street scene will have returned by then. But hoping. I want to try out the Centro options and it's a short ride to Copa. I like staying in locals.

I was supposed to spend some time in So Paulo last week but cancelled. A couple of my Rio providers that make the bus or air trip weekly have mentioned that Bahamas Club is where most of the Bomboa girls are now and that it the venue of choice right now.
