Wish I would have seen this in time to be able to join you, instead of going to Mirunas! As suggested, I rented a car and took a trip out to Mirunas on Sunday. Got there about 2:30. Well. Against what I thought was my better judgment, I decided last minute to hit Scandallo tonight. It has always been on my list. I know there are others who are against these places because of the cost but I am in Sao Paulo once, maybe twice a year, so my budget might be larger than those who spend more time here. I promise ABG, one day I will hit the prives with you but it didn't work out this trip. Just got back to the hotel and I have to say it was one of the better times I have ever had. Hopefully no one gets bored reading this. I tend to be very detailed.

First and foremost, their website says that they provide free transportation to / from the venue, and they do. Andre came and picked me up right on time, and took me back to my hotel when I was done. Very nice guy. It doesn't cost anything but I tipped him both ways. And after he dropped me off at the club he was going to pick up a group of 10 in Alphaville, so it seems they are willing to come and get you no matter where you live or are staying. He comes in a very nice unmarked black van, it has a TV and everything. Everyone at Scandallo was very cool. I will say that there aren't a lot of English speaking people there, in fact, I can't remember any who spoke too much. I have gringo written all over me so there were some worried faces when I walked in. However, I speak Portuguese so it was fine. Let me also say that I was told by others on this forum that Saturday is a slow night, and that was OK with me. Gave me a chance to really scope things out before getting serious. In that short period of time I would recomend you go to Miruna (A. Miruna 644) , Brooklin (Rua Joaquim Guaran 121) or Tangara (Rua Tangara 200) are the only good alternatives for Sunday.

GRU only to stay in a good hotel, I like the Merriot.

If you are an experienced driver and you have a GPS there will be no problem to find the places.

Miruna is very close do the domestic CGH airport, Brooklin is near Shopping Morumb and Tangara 200 is near the Ibirapuera Park.

Renting a car will be much cheaper. Sunday traffic is not bad, you going to spend averade 45 minutes untill reach any of the 03 places. Open hours at Miruna and Brooklin on Sundays: 12 Noom till 7 PM; Tangara 11 AM - 8 PM. The easest to find is Miruna, you just drive through main avenues. And also has the best cast !

Assumong you arrive Sunday morning, rent a car and drive to Sao Paulo. Forget any mongering in GRU!

I will stay at a hotel near GRU, as I have to meet a business agent at GRU who will be taking me to Campinas first thing Monday morning. I have RTFF as quickly as possible, but given my time frame, would appreciate any sage advice possible. From reading here, I know I am hitting a bad area (GRU) on a bad day (Sunday). So, I have a couple questions:

1) What are my options for a Sunday, preferably not too far from GRU?

2) Any hotel recommendations close to GRU?

3) If no options near GRU, should I just plan to take a taxi, or is it worth renting a car? I'm an experienced driver in the US and other European countries, but have not driven in South America. My colleague will drive from Monday, so I would have no need for a car after Sunday.

4) ABG, I think I saw you had an interesting possibility in the area that might be worth checking out. Any information or other suggestions would be much appreciated!
