It must be so obvious I hate to cook and love to eat.
Mexican Cafe on the corner of Lichfield and Manchester, upstairs above the Honey Pot Cafe
If you're good food and excellent Margaritas this is a great place, atmosphere is good, its open real late and has great food and good service. Pretty good price $16-$25 for a main.
But its the Margaritas that you'll end up remembering.

Sasha - no fair. I care and enjoy your reports on the restaurant / cafe scene in CHC. Please continue.
Unfortunately, I don't get the chance to visit CHC all that often but will certainly look to try your recommendations. And if lucky, I'll look you up as well.

Viaduct on the strip. Had dinner here on one of those wonderful Christchurch summer evenings. The waiter was American on a working holiday with the nicest blue eyes.
Sorry none of you guys care.
Food was average, not bad but not great. Wine list was good though and the service was good and friendly.
And to update what happens in town
The Atami Shows are now
Thursday evening 9pm
Friday Lunch 12.30pm
Friday evening 9.30 pm
Tickets are still $25 and BYO
Staceys Massage is doing its orgies

Yummy yummy yummy, great food, lovely wine list. Probably a good place to go early week before the Friday night drunks get out and about.

Posts: 128George is still running round Palazzo. Try it you will love the food and the service, if you don't want a real busy time I suggest lunch.
Yes I've been getting round the boards, its kind of amusing what is lurking out there in misinformation. Love the Morality of Prostitution one it give me a giggle.

Happy New Year, Sasha.
I see you have been around the other boards - appreciate your sound comments rather than the junk from the rest. Look forward to more insights this year.
Always wanted to try the Palazzo but never had time - is George still running around the place or has he slowed down or retired ?

I haven't been here for ages but decided it was bout time I tried it again.
Cafe Valentino on Colombo St, north of the square.
Its still brilliant, lots of yummy pasta and great lamb. Wine list is good,
staff are nice looking and give great service with a smile and a sense of humour.
I also went to Palazzo recently, its seafood and is a Christchurch institution if you're into seafood. Service is always good here and the food is great, they have a awesome wine list. Its not overly expensive but not cheap either. The Italian waitor is hilarious and he still remembers my name even though I haven't been there for a year and he's spent 6 months home in Italy between then. Thats good service!

Posts: 67I say restaurants for landmarks
Simply because:
a) It shows you get out a lot; and
b) It makes for more interesting conversation; and
c) You can make a throwaway remark about a nearby brothel, and then neatly segue back into more about the restaurant
Look forward to more tips about CHC.

fabulous result in Paris, fabulous result against the English. And I got laid.
Life is good.
Try Pedros Spanish Restaurant down on Worscester St as well. Thats my favourite place in Christchurch. Book early tables are hard to come buy.
Its still close to lots of brothels as well.
I wonder if its the restaurants or the brothels that I use as landmarks

... for the list and update, I've been exiled (happily) for too many years now from NZ but as I have been thinking about making a trip back and your info is useful and shall we say encouraging. Not bad result either last night in Paris - PDP, eh ? :-))
P.S. Sasha - you keep playing up girl, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about. Cheers

Ended up a new bar in a little lane called Poplar Lane. Bar was called Red Jacks.
Food was awesome, service great and cool atmosphere.
For those of you that dont know Christchurch to well. Poplar Lane is an upcoming area just off Tuam St near the Atami.
There are 3 really nice bars there that have great food and good service. The under 20s haven't discovered them yet and so you can have a relaxing but fun evening and wander between the bars,
Then of course being situated where it is there are plenty of brothels within 5 minutes walking distance to take the edge off you as well.
