I have been living in Costa Rica for the last 30 years, I am therefore one of those whiteheads..

Remember the old New York bar with the rail overlooking the sidewalk / street and seeing mongers doing the Walk of Shame down the street coming from the Del Rey with a 4 x 4 Little Darling (four feet tall, 400 pounds and wearing glasses) on their way back to the Presidente when it was still chica friendly. Or the local Tico joints where it was 3500 colones for a half hour.

I recently used WorldTravel69's list in San Jose and have the following info:

1) Centro de Masajes does not exist.

2) Pension Monica increased the rate for 1/2 HR to 14,000 colones but kept the hourly rate the same at 20,000 see (FS). BBBJ is usually available at a 5 K C. Surcharge.

I highly recommend you go for the hourly rate. This place has about 20 girls in rotation and usually about a dozen at any one time. Hours are 7 days / wk, 9 am to 7 pm. The hours are deliberately designed to cater to businessmen and tourists, as they avoid the drunken crowd that comes out later. The manager's focus is on Customer Service, a rare commodity in this business. He selects the girls for no drug use, no fake tits, and great attitude. Believe me, it works. I will dream of Diana for a long time. Because of the place's good reputation they get both local businessmen and referrals from several hotels. It is located on Calle 4 between Avenida 8 and 10, near the pedestrian streets in downtown.

There is Hotel Oficina on Ave 9, Calle 1 a few blocks from HDR / SL where you can get a room for about 9,000 ¢ ($16) for 3 hours.

There is a hotel across the street from HDR but if the chicas get seem by HDR management, they will get banned, so many will not want to go there.

But also where are good girls. I reviewed some of the forums, but not sure what is actual and where to find at least 8-9 ers?

If the babe knows her business, there is a place right across the street where you can get a very clean room for $7 an hour. Been there twice. No complaints. Modern accommodation and clean showering facility.

If she knows her business, she will take you there.

Don't go to Hotel Asia. It's a dump.

Sorry for not posting previously. It was $150 for two hours, which I was fine with. I ended up giving her an extra $40 because it was literally an absolutely awesome time. I don't quite know how to describe it otherwise. Other than to say that it was the best time in the sack that I can ever remember due to her smiles, enjoyment, actions and enthusiasm mixed with sensuality.

As another data point, when I returned to the HDR to re-hydrate I was approached by another slim beauty that wasn't there when I'd been in the bar earlier so she didn't know that I'd already been thru one of the best sex experiences of my life. I kept being very polite and saying "No, gracias" so she kept lowering her price. At her offer of $60 for an hour I just bought her a drink and left. I would have done her in a heartbeat if I'd not been drained.

Data point #3: About a month ago I took 2 chicas to the hotel around the corner for an hour. I'd never done that before so wanted to get a check in the block. They were not inexperienced with this and knew how to maneuver around to make everyone happy. I ended up really liking one, and the other figured it out and wasn't put off at all. She just slapped my butt and said "Have fun" and went to rinse off. Paid them $80 each.

I've only been in town on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings so am hoping that at some point in the future I can actually be there on a Friday or Saturday to see what it is like.

I have not been to Costa Rica in a few years but, is there a push by the powers that be to crack down on prostitution or try and make it hard on the operators? Costa Rica has really become a big family tourist destination and, the politicians may be putting their foot down. I understand the Del Rey is not in a touristy area but, with the whole Cuba dave thing I was just wondering.

Well, they do have a female president who is quite far to the left and a strong 'feminist. ' Then there was the Cuba Dave fiasco, as you mention, which attracted a lot of unwanted attention. Costa Rica is a pretty unique Latin country in that it was never really fully conquered or colonized, and no one really cared because they have no extractable metals to speak of. So the whole virgin / working girl thing and the whole mestizo thing were way less influential and thus way less ingrained in CR, and that is probably why prostitution developed somewhat more openly in CR than in other places. It's not hard to see why the powers that be would want to tone it down some.

You fellas make some very valid point's. Prostitution is LEGAL in Costa Rica. If they want a family friendly hotel the DR ain't the freaking place! LOL! They should send all the families to hotel's near the airport. The liquor and the girl's are not going anywhere in San Jose, why fix something that is not broken?

The Del Rey area is still a tourist location There are museums and stuff like that around. But there are girls, bars, and brothels around too.
So it's mainly for another type of tourist. Just a different type of tourist spot.

Del Ray is in tourist area. In Costa Rica prostitution is legal as far as I know. I believe the business is down in DelRay since it's hay days. When I went last year it was half dead. Those girls who were there half way decent had a chip on their shoulder. No more GFE types who would love to be with you long time. I remember the days when part timers used to come there and I had kept them for couple of days and had fun taking them everywhere. I never stayed there so do not know the condition of the rooms.

Unlike hotel presidente whose transition to family friendly hotel was evidently successful, with Del Ray it is anybody's guess. They certainly cannot close down Casino and the bar which is in your face if it becomes family destination.
