I was not planning to submit a report on this trip but I promised myself when I joined ISG to write whenever I take a mongering trip.

Friday April 1:

It was my first time in CR so I decided to stay at HDR to be in the middle of the action. I arrived at 8pm, took a shower and went downstairs to check the action. Depends on your budget, if you want a pimp ass room with staff that treat you like a king I would do hotel Europa presidential suite. It has run me 150-250 per night, negotiation is a must. The room is so so pimp, the bed is like a deluxe double king, jacuzzi and glass shower it has a bar area and a guest bathroom. There is no guest charges and they have always let me keep things in the safe boxes behind front desk for free also. It's about 1 mile which I always walk unless bringing a girl back with me and then even sometimes I can get them to walk with me (I hate cabs). I like hotel presidente too but feel this is a better bang for the buck. Also thought about trying a suite a zone blue, that's only half a mile from del rey and you get big discounts.

After some "semi-extensive" research (including some advice from fellow ISG members) I decided upon High Tech Dental Clinic for my dental work.

I am very pleased with the way the entire "process" went. It started out with the fact that my plane into San Jose was delayed for two hours-arriving at almost 5:00 PM- but the entire staff waited for me.

Dr. Coto did not go home until after 7:00 pm on that first day, when he did his preliminary examination. He told me exactly the same thing that my USA dentist told me. The next day was a five-hour "prep" session. I had a total of ten crowns and / or veneers. Including a 4-tooth bridge in the front. The prep session included digital x-rays, numbing medication, extraction of one root, prepping the posts for the crowns, etc.

I returned 6 days later for all the crowns, and the bridge, to be put in.

You don't have to wait that long. I have a friend with a house in Costa Rica (about two hours outside of San Jose) , so I was not in a big rush. Even with 10 teeth being worked on, Dr. Coto told me I could have all of them ready 3 or 4 days after my initial visit.

In the USA, I was quoted more than $13, 000. High Tech Dental did all the work for only $2, 800. With an additional 5% discount for paying in cash.

This is not a "fancy" USA-style dental office, but they have all the modern equipment, including the digital x-ray unit.

They make the crowns right in their own lab, and when Dr. Coto was not quite happy with the shading on the 4-tooth bridge, he told me that he would make another one.

In the USA, I have previously gotten answers like,"That's the best that the lab can do."

I have never had a dentist who worked with such care and precision. And I have always had top-quality dentists here in the USA.

The clinic has a driver, Olger, who picks you up at the airport, takes you to the clinic, takes you to your hotel, recommends restaurants. All included in the service. (However, you really should give Olger a tip for driving you all around. I gave him $80. Because he helped me out with some "personal" stuff as well-including translating for me and my new novia, who I met while I was there). He also has a friend who runs a boarding house that has 6 or 7 rooms. She is a great cook, and you get dinner, breakfast, and the room-for only about $30-$35. However, I don't think it is chica-friendly. (You'd have to ask Olger about that.) Unfortunately, she was all booked up when I was there.

I would highly recommend this clinic. You can contact me if you would like to ask me more questions. If I refer you to Dr. Coto, it will help me to fulfill my promise to him. That I would definitely send him business.

In addition to those which have been mentioned, I also like club Alcasar (Ave. 7 and Calle Central) and VIPs (Ave. 11and Calle 1). I guess strip clubs, by definition, are clip joints. But some San Jose clubs are MUCH worse than others. You can have a decent time without getting gouged at places like Le Grillon (onsite FS for around $32 for a 20-minute quickie) and Pantera Rosa (not familiar with current onsite FS pricing). From what I've heard (never been to any of these clubs) , places like Tango India, Lipstick, Atlantis, Scarlett and Hollywood should be avoided like the plague if you are even remotely cost-conscious.

I'm not a big fan of strip clubs, but I had some memorable sessions at Kamur back in the day with some major-league foxes (e. G, Roxanna, Erica and Sabrina) for around $100 / hour. I didn't mind violating my "no cien" rule for these babes, considering the context.

De Paulifo and Pink Pather. De Paulifo was very small with a seedy back entrance. Mostly CR dudes and about 6 girls.

Pink Panther was huge with girls giving lap dances. Not many gringos but the best strip club in my opinion. Both charged a ten dollar (us) entrance fee but a free drink came with it.
