    Can't think of this place

OK sorry, there was one opened up on a roof top that didn't last long same general location. If you go past, or if anyone else knows, please post the name and exact spot. The cafe in front of the Presidente was the cream, now long gone as you know.

I haven't been downtown lately, but I've read that place didn't survive long.

    NFL, bars, & girls

A better choice would be the newly opened Scores or next door at Zona II, now distinctly owned, separated with different entrances, and both remodeled but before were one place you will remember as either Zona Blue or HLH. Good reviews, lots of tv's, in the heart of the gulch, food at Scores can be brought to Zona II, both gringo owned, both MP's w / girls. Probably would be my first places to check out at kick off time. The SL has the games on with a lot of big screens, food, some chicks there at NFL times, a tad early for many I'd say unless the NFL brings them out. The DR may have your game on, or maybe you can get the head dope to get the tv head dope to get your game on at least one of the tv's, always an aggravating challenge. But there'll be the most girls there for sure as you know. Chubbs next door to the DR has every game on, decent gringo bar food but no chica's, not that they aren't allowed and I've seen them in there, but not regularly and not early. But, if you found something you liked at the DR, you could take her with you 100 feet to Chubbs.

    1. there is an open air 2nd story bar across from the balmoral hotel on central ave (walking street). they have cheap food and you can sit and watch the pussy parade. almost all locals go there for the pollo and beer.

    3. you used to be able to buy the departure tax at the balmoral, but no more. i think i heard some of the banks may have that offering, not 100% sure.

    6. cr coffee should be on your list; some of the strongest you will find.

    8. tnl will run you $300; ideally for $80 you can find a drunk chica late night and she'll sleep it off in your room and if you're lucky get a morning departing pop. rare, but i have done it over the years. in my later years, i prefer to get the deed done, then kick them out, lol.

for some of your other answers, check out you tube, lots of videos posted on san jose scenes and things to do.

    I forget something

when it comes to food, cr fish is about as fresh as you're going to get it, and very reasonable. a lot of places will serve seafood soup aka sopa de mariscos, often a meal in itself. can't go wrong sticking with fish in cr.

    A little help

    2) i have read about the sportsman for breakfast and dunn for lunch, how about a steak house or some other restaurant something once again outside and any good street food. tacos, fajitas, etc. i am from alaska and being outside is important to me...
    1) lipo-watch out of course, recently a few horror stories and there is no recourse for you if it gets botched. i recommend ronald pino, md, on the list of the american embassy approved, highest tech clinic. 50 ish. did some scar removal work for me but alot of training in the states. there are numerous plastic surgeons who do it. use this trip to make the rounds. watch out for the gringo gouge. if you can figure out the way to send me a private message, there's a way, do so and i'll tell you who and what to avoid, i've had other work done there so i can give you some other references. the tables outside the front door of the gran hotel costa rica is a great place to sit and watch, very heavy foot traffic, across the street from the nt'l theatre and from a grand huge plaza, and set off far enough away from avenida 2, one of the busiest so the traffic doesn't bug you.

    2) cr is not necesssarily noted for its steak, most of the cattle not corn fed. there are some higher end import places that guys say steak was good, but pretty pricey. tacos and fajitas are not really cr, though they're there. there's a bar called harry poah's close to sl, dirt cheap bk. alot of tico's will eat bk, lunch, & dinner at the soda's essentially indoor or semi outdoor cafeterias where you'll get eggs if you want, but also, beef, and rice and maybe a vegetable or piece of fruit, toast, coffee for-for 4-5$, they are all over the whole country. you want gringo style hotel stuff, you'll pay gringo prices.

    3) you can pay departure tax at the airport but then you have to go back upstairs after customs with your luggage and dick around when your mind is racing to get downtown, and then you worry about where you put it the whole time you are there. if you get to the airport in plenty of time, that line always moves fast. 10-15 counters open, or buy at several hotels for a fee. bring a good pen to the airport, a bunch of forms.

    4) you can walk to the walmart but it's a bit of a hike. cabs are dirt cheap, ask the hotel desk how much for walmart and make sure the cabbie knows that's what you're willing.

    5) you can haggle a little at almost all of the tico places, not much. the centro market, a square block, has hundreds of shops like that. a landmark you will never forget. from soup to nuts. lots of sodas. look for the busy ones. not much to bring back from cr, wood crafts maybe, i like the things you lay on the counter for hot pots. do't buy the wooden coffee cups-they eventually all have leaked on me. but tico coffee is the best in the world. cafe trebol at the central market will roast it right there for you whatever size bag. tell them americn grind if you want it ground-important-or they will pulverize it to make it work in their antiquated sock systems. also tell them how dark you want it roasted-to me the dark is best. street side entrance only, not from within the market. far end from the dr. you'll smell it. buy it on your last day ther. i fyou buy enough, the smell in your room is overwehlming.

    6) i am not a mp guy but 6th st is one area, but meet guys at the gringo bars, they'll steer you to the better ones where you may find your diamond. nf and the downtown 360 are popular, as are the new scores and zona ii, all relatively close, the last two being next to each other and gringo run.

    7) tln is too variable to tell you a $$ certainty but for sure more then a $100 and up to $300 i often hear, ymmv. do you really want to spend the night with a chica you just met? with one eye open? up to you, but i'd send the night shift home, sleep good, get up for bk, and go find a late morning poison extractor at an mp or the dr.

    8) if you ain't locked into the dunn inn, try amistad, better bang for your buck.

    9) bring an "unlocked" cell phone, buy a cr sim at the airport from the kolbi (cr phone sevice provider) kiosk outside of customs for $5-comes with minutes-you'll have your own # and chicas in cr are text machines, and texts and local calls are dirt cheap. you can rechardge them in cash at a million pharmacies, etc. you won't regret that.

Many of the chicas in SJ give a BBBJ but many will not, many allow DATY but many will not. From my experience about half will give BBBJ and allow DATY and about half will not..
I would never enter the bedroom without having everything settled up front. Of course negotiate with a smile be friendly get on her good side and complement her, most if not all of the complements will be true, you do find her attractive and beautiful or you wouldn't be choosing her. But always always have everything settled up front before you enter the bed room, be nice but be a man these girls and women throughout the world respect a man. You are a nice guy but you're not a sap you expect these service at this price and she will respect you for that. Sorry if this shatters the illusion that some mongers have but these girls don't love us. They love their children and the local tico guys that got them pregnant and the local tico guys that they are fucking bare back and spending the money we give them on. Many of these girls are a lot of fun and you can have a great time in the bedroom with them and many will enjoy the time and sex you give them as much as you do, but in the end you and I my friend are nothing more than a means to an end for these girls, enjoy it for what it is and don't have any illusions that it is more than what it is.

Chris Long, I got to disagree.

This was a relatively old post but I haven't been here in a while:

Chris Long wrote,"However, I want to stress that in SJ you will have to negotiate for BBBJ as well as DATY this is not under stood as being part of the deal as it is in many other monger locations throughout the world. To each his own of course, but I just wanted to present an opposing view of this paragraph above.

I am a veteran monger, have a record of successful experiences that any monger would be proud of. I say this only to establish my qualification in saying what I am about to say. My approach is the exact opposite of the above philosophy. Again, to each his own, but since it was stated with such authority I felt my opposing view would be appropriate.

I think it is totally unnecessary UNLESS you just HAVE to have a certain act performed, something like anal or BBBJ. Admittedly you did state that one specifically must negotiate for BBBJ and so I guess I have to agree that if you really need that, okay, maybe it's best to negotiate it. I've NEVER had any girl turn down DATY!

I NEVER negotiate re what my girl and I are going to do once we get into the bedroom. I believe this is a key to having a good time, almost every time.

Here's the deal: It DOES kill the mood and atmosphere! Ever hear of GIGO (garbage in, garbage out)? It means that you get out of it what you put into it. If you go into negotiations with a girl at the Del Rey or Key Largo, and start saying "I need you to do this","I need you to do that", then you are right off the bat setting it up as a purely business transaction. You are setting yourself up for the girl feeling like a sex worker instead of a girl having a good time.

Yes, they are hookers. But they like to feel like they are not.

You can accomplish that in many cases by:

    A) choosing the right girl (one that seems like she might be truly fun to hang with, not necessarily the hottest girl in the room but one that seems enthusiastic and fun)

Be) getting to know her a little, flirt with her, make her laugh, tell her how sexy she is, tell her you like her eyes, her hair, her clothes, her shoes. Whatever.

See) keep negotiating to a minimum. Just enough to talk her down from "cien" and yet not so low as to make her feel bad. I usually settle between $60-80 depending on how bad I want her, how much competition there is (more girls + less guys = lower price)

The) when you get them back in the room help them relax; give them a massage. Ask them if they want to hear music or not, offer them a drink if you have some. Make them feel comfortable!

You may think,"Wait! They're supposed to make ME feel good!" Well, that's why you do this. To ensure you do have a great time!

So by NOT negotiating, they forget for a bit that they are hookers, they relax and get into having some fun, and if you get them relaxed and having fun, treat them like a girlfriend, you have about a 90% chance of having a fantastic GFE!

Frankly I don't care about BBBJ. A covered blowjob is fine with me. I PREFER a BBBJ but I'm not going to make it a negotiation. But I'd say half the time I get the BBBJ anyway. I get DITY any time I want it (usually even if I do I keep it to a minimum) , and I have a great experience About 9 out of 10 times and I've had maybe about 1 out of 30 bad experiences.

With probably 50-60 experiences under my belt at this point, in San Jose, that's a pretty good record.

So my opposing viewpoint is that you should try NOT negotiate things like BBBJ unless you just really will feel cheated if you don't get that. Because when you do that kind of negotiation you are setting yourself up to have a much less fun experience. Not always, but you're lowering your chances.

Most of the girls I get using the a, be, see and the method above, I actually have a fantastic time with, no time limit, the girls tell their friends about me, and I often do repeats with the same girls at least one or two per trip, because it was such a great time. Sometimes I have to fend them off one after another when I go back to the bar on the 4th or 5th day because they all want to repeat and I want a new girl!

Oh, and the same thing with photos. Don't negotiate that. Wait til you get them up in the room, then ask them nicely. Sometimes I'll offer an extra 5 mil for photos. Sometimes they say no. Again, I don't believe in letting these relatively unimportant details screw up what will otherwise likely be a great time.

That's my philosphy and it works great for me!

  11. #4000

    Agree, Dgfd.

But not to stay at, too loud, blast the music at the top like it was a disco all day all night, way over-priced for what you are getting, and its bar's customers are now heavily Tico locals especially for sporting events. Hey, it's their country. But if I wanted to drink in a Tico bar, which sometimes I do, I go to one and pay $1. 50 for a beer, and not what Sportsmen's Lodge charges.

And it's not a hotel. It's a rehabbed old something or other with addition after addition with one layer of drywall seperating the rooms.

If it's sold out, all 25 rooms, it's because of heavy advertisisng on monger boards and new guys don't know of great alternatives at better prices in the same area. [edit].
Dgfd, thank you for telling it like it is. Tons of guys over on that "other" forum are SL fanboys and I got kicked off of that site for writing an honest, not nasty but just honest review of the food and bar scene there. The owner frequents that forum (maybe he's an owner of that too?) and he had me 86'd after YEARS of honest and worthwhile posts.

Anyway, the point is, yeah they TOTALLY screw up omelets! Worst omelet I ever had! We also had a waitress there who said we didn't order what we ordered. My wing man and I both know what we ordered. Rather than say "Sorry, I screwed up" she blamed and yelled at us. Weird. All their food is over-priced and none of it is delicious.

The music at the SL is too loud, when they play music; the girls there are just so-so, and the rooms are noisy, and yeah, I'm one of those guys who isn't there to watch sports so I couldn't care less about that, in fact I find it annoying most of the time.

I guess the Tico thing is new. I really don't care if Ticos go there, as long as it doesn't take on the atmosphere of a Tico bar. Ticos have this thing where they buy you a beer and then you're expected to buy them 3 and if you don't they get angry. Tico bars are known for guys getting into fights. Personally I don't want anyone buying me anything, I'm there to drink and look for girls and eat crappy American style food. To me, the SL is a place I go just to get away from the Gulch for an hour or two. I've never once found a girl there that inspired me to take her back to my room.

But then again, admittedly I'm a Del Rey / Key Largo guy. I know the game and am good at it. To me, SL is too mellow and has far too few girls. (No offense to anyone who likes it but after 20 years of mongering, to me, the Del Rey is where the action is.) Also the SL is in a lousy location. Give me the Gulch every time! (I did like Zona Blue back in the day. Hopefully it is coming back!)

    Budget MP's

Are any of you guys visiting the budget MP's these days? Are there still a good amount around for $40 and under?

I am considering a Managua trip and want to couple it with another city since MGA may get old after a few days.

    THANKS

  13. #3998
Yes. That is the feeling I get. I've heard there is no place like Del Rey or Mona Lisa in Medellin.

More massage, casa, and strip clubs where you can take the girls out for a fee.

Yes more spread out as well.

But Colombian women are gorgeous and sexy, like Esperanza Gomez. The cost would be cheaper than the asking price at Del Rey.

But again issues with Medellin being spread out and no central place with working girls like a del rey.

Travels to San Jose is fairly simple.

    1. Fly into San Jose, go to upper level of airport, departures and get cheaper taxi to Hotel Del Rey.

    2. Hang out in Del Rey or take taxi to Mona Lisa.

    3. Girls from anywhere $50-$80 for hour or TLN.

    4. Arrange taxi to go back to airport.

Pretty simple and safe. As long as you stay in the hotel, don't wander off at night. And arrange day trips with reputable travel agencies to check out Arenal and other places.

Question. Is that simple to do the same in Medellin. Is that safe and same prices? Are there known spots like Del Rey and Mona Lisa in Medellin.

I will ask those in Medellin forum as well. Thank you
