Posts: 936It's been a long time since the Presidente was monger friendly, I loved it there before I discovered Rio. For many years the Presidente thrived because of the America mongers that visited and the owners keeping it well maintained unlike the Balmoral across the street. Their survival depended on mongers. But as time went by, Costa Rica became ever more popular with the eco-tourists and the Presidente started introducing restrictions. First was in 2005 when they set a limit of one chica at a time, then in 2006 imposed a dress code on the chicas (which got them in the papers when they kicked out a lawyer who visited the restaurant for lunch), and finally in 2007 they banned mongers bringing in any chicas at all.

I have sneaked in girls from the casino next door which is owned by them. There was a way to go upstairs and take the elevator from there with no checking. Not sure if that way is still open.

Anyone know if the Hotel Presidente is chica friendly? I plan on coming back to San Jose but wanted to stay in a bit more upscale hotel.

Posts: 86San Jose. Great for casas
I returned to San Jose after about 10 years. I was over in SJ over Christmas '19 for a large part of the 2 week holiday. Going to 'casa'/ brothels was super easy. I think I paid around 15 k CRC for 30 minutes simple sex. There were often specials like 2 for 1, 2 for 20 k CRC. There were also cheaper places but 15 k CRC was the right price point for hot and cheap. In CR, I believe the brothel is simply a place where independent escorts come to sell their wares - the brothel has no control over those women. I never felt pushed nor rushed. The approx 10 experiences I had were amazing. I love Latino women anyway. Will do short / tall / fat / mature / no mature just because they are Latino.
I never felt unsafe in SJ or any where else I went to in CR. There are lots of police in the city centre. I went many nights to Sportsman, Hotel Del Rey. It was fine to look at the women but no way would I spend the amount of silly prices they ask for.
As a city SJ is very boring. It is a small city with a small population. In general, I felt CR was very expensive in living costs and groceries, etc- even more so than say London, UK. So that was a bit of a downer! I might visit again in the near future because I am constantly getting cheap flights there (around 320 GBP).

Thanks for the update. I'll be in SJ March 6-8 at Sportsmen Lodge. Glad to meet up with others. I've been to CR almost each year in the last five and often before that. I've been around and Spanish is good.
Re: Exchanging Money. I've found it handy to use the ScotiaBank ATM at the airport after clearing immigration. The one before customs is affiliated with money changers and rate is not good. I always use Colones. Last year usually paid 30,000 but planning on 35 k this year.
I'll spend a couple of days in Jaco later but the big hassle there is finding a place to go with the girl (my hotel is not chica friendly). Thinking about perhaps renting a cabina for a couple of days. Anyone have experience with that?
Pura Vida.

Posts: 10I arrived at the Del Ray early evening on a Friday. It was quite the experience. Lots of attractive women and a few not so attractive. Bottom line is they will take $6 o - 70 US for full service fun. I did enjoy it more during the early morning hours, when it was a quieter time.
I wasn't expecting the Ritz Carlton, or even a Marriott class room, but something akin to a Hilton Garden Inn would have been nice. Rooms and bedding are definitely outdated. Rather noisy at night as the sound carries.
I went for a simple BJ for my first adventure for $35. She was excited that she was leaving with money. Must have been a slow night. Next was a woman with big black rimmed glasses that had that seductive school teacher look that I love. Full service with her. She accepted 35,000 colones and I gave her 40,000. So roughly $70 is what she was willing to accept and I gave $80, as I didn't have a 5,000 note on me.
Didn't care much for San Jose as a whole; may or may not return. I liked that it is regulated and the women provide their gov't work ID to the desk before going to your room. Interesting that I heard 70's and 80's American Rock & Roll. Something oddly nice about hearing the Knack's "My Sharona" blasting away.

So seems from reading reports that San Jose has really fallen off but will be there soon so hoping to have a successful trip.
I have the chance to be there 3 nights from Saturday or 2 nights from Sunday before having to flying out. But reading the forum it seems weekends are pretty dead due to the migration of hotties to Jaco for weekends so now wondering if its worth even staying the extra night in San Jose if so bad. Willing to take my chances with P4 P but also youngish enough that can hit the clubs so trying to decide what is best. Was planning on flying in to SJO to ensure I was there on what I would expect to be a busy night from Bocas del Toro on the Saturday but now considering spending it there or Puerto Viejo.
I guess my question is, is SJO worth travelling to on a Saturday or is it a Saturday wasted? I'm a simple man, so drinks, good music and hot women is all I'm looking for. Heard La Cali could also be good hunting?
