As I walk to gate four to catch my non stop flight to SJO, I decide to survey the competition. Mostly guys over 50 with either balding or white hair. Some looked like golfers others accountants. What was missing was that excited and anxious demeanors that the Colombian and DR mongerers have. Hell were these even mongerers? There were ten chics all ugly and a couple families. Where were the fine girls? If you travel to the DR or Colombia you know the show you get at the airport.

The flight was smooth. But after clearing customs there were no fine girls waiting on dudes. Paid 25usd to go to Sportsman Lodge. There were ten chicas sitting around trying to catch my eyes but none over 7. Now it was some hot girls working behind the bar. Decided to do a quick tour at 4pm.

San jose seems to be a nice organized city. The women are average at best. Hit Del ray for some change and BINGO. This is the spot. Fifty chicas hanging around, even saw a couple 10s. They have a casino and a couple bars. Most of the guys don't have chicas with them, I guess everybody is waiting till nightfall to get freaky. Got change and decided to have a beer at DR. Cute Tica Stephany (20yo, no kids, light skinned, very skinny) started a conversation. She said it is 100usd (what) for an hour and she does EVERYTHING. While I declined and waited on a counter offer, she jumped to the next table. Ookaaay.

I'm going to hit some strip clubs later after my wing man arrives. San Joses mongering scene has a different vibe and its a refreshing change. Waiting for nightfall, because the freaks come out at night.

Varies between chicas. In my experience, nearly all will do both DFK and BBBJ, but I have had a few who refused one or the other. This type of thing should be negotiated before you commit to the chica.

I'm coming to San Jose for the first time in a few weeks. I've been all over Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Peru, Thailand, China, Germany, and a few other places. My fellow mongers from Medellin tell me not to waste my time in Costa Rica. Can anyone tell me why is that? It appears to be one of the top monger spots and I feel I have to seee it for myself. What do you guys think?

Thanks to all the great info here I have picked up so much info. Thanks guys. I have a few questions on hotels:

Regarding accommodation, I intend to stay at either Morazan Hotel or Hotel Castillo. Morazan being just next door (?) to DR bar. Does anyone know the most recent price of this hotel? Because it is not mentioned in the lists. Internet sources say $79+tax, others say $60 inc tax. Their website:

Doesn't say anything with prices. Is this a trust worthy site to book your reservations? LOL, looks almost like a scam site.

Hotel Castillo seems like $60.

Regarding bringing the girls back, do you need to ask the reception first when you check in so he knows or can you just walk in with the girl pretending its all cool? For TLNs in Costa rica, do you negotiate a time when she leaves? In other places of the world, sometimes it can be as early as 8am (!). What is expected in Costa rica?

Junior Suite rooms are $92 with tax and are on the fifth floor. Nice large room 501 with balcony. Key safe no internet. Decent bathroom, older model TV buts works good. It usually takes 2 trips down to the lobby to get a remote control that works. Other rooms level 2, 3 and 4 are $62 with tax. They add about $6 a night to add breakfast. I don't recommend eating at the hotel since there are plenty of resturants nearby. The lobby is really smokey at night and you can even smell it on the second floor. The location is great as 1/2 block from HDR and KKey Largo. No fee for only 1 chica at a time. Had a great time staying there. One thing I like is when you pick up a chica at HDR or KL you don't have to get a taxi late at night. The 1/2 block walk you must be careful because there are some shady characters around. Example of inside of room 502.

if you take cr for what it is, you will enjoy yourself. it is not brazil, etc. i love cr and go many many times. the main reason imho that cr is so popular is the proximity of it. it is quick and easy to get to, easy to monger, many english speaking chicas. ticas, nicas, colombianas, dr, etc. to choose from. do some research on crt and you will find all the info you need. btw, pay no attention to the pics posted. most hot girls do not want their pics rep001tered all over the internet.

i would agree with comments of february1 and softbob. i've enjoyed the trips, and the variety of chicas available can meet with most people's preferences. i've certainly enjoyed the colombianas myself.

i also agree with the assessment of the photo's, you simply can't judge it on the available photo's posted here.

I have been to Thailand and Costa Rica and they each have their own charms. Generally the cost of mongering is higher in CR but you have more variety. You have independents who you can negotiate with, then there are a range of massage parlors where an half hour could be as low as $12.

Moving around at night requires some care and using taxis is advisable then. No tourist police to keep order so care is required at night. Quite a few hotels that do not charge girl fees so that could be a saving.

Close to the US and most mongers you see are from the US and very friendly.

A must go to at least once.

Bad economy all around including CR. It's a buyer's market right now with more girls to chose from and more bang for your buck. Hard economic times are always good for mongering.

Fewer and fewer Colombianas these days, more Ticas and Nicas than anything else. Still one of the best venues in Central America to have a good time. Hardly ever get turned down on a $60 offer. If I do, so be it, LOL.

A very sad day for me as this was my hangout for many years and one of the few remaining reasons I had to come to Costa Rica. A great American neighborhood bar ambiance, the hottest bartenders in town, and lots of over the hill $20 hookers to choose from. What else could a man ask for?

Of recent history, first the Park Hotel, then the Nashville closed, then Las Palmas in the Castillo. Whose next? The sportsmans? If the recession is really this bad, then those $100 Del Rey girls should be available for $20.

Richard, may you retire in peace. You and the New York Bar and Andy Anderson and the Park Hotel shall forever live in our hearts as the Monarchs of Mongerdom.

Sadly, the decline has been steady over the years, same as the quality of the girls who frequented the place. Was a good place to have a beer and cigar on the patio and watch the chicas walk to and from the HDR. I think the popularity of Chubbs for watching sports was part of the decline as well. As far as the $20 chicas, I'll let you know in about 4-weeks.
