    Question

How safe is it in the bars and MPs? Are some safer than others? I would assume its pretty safe at these places but there always exceptions.

Prolijo, you're an experienced monger so you can call your own shots. I respect that.

But it seems to me that it's irresponsible (not saying you're doing this) to encourage any newbie to walk around at night in SJ. It's just simply not safe. Is everywhere in the US safe? Hell no. I wouldn't walk plenty of places here where I live. Hell, I wouldn't even go into some neighborhoods even in a car if I didn't have to.

But SJ in particular is not safe for street walking at night. Point Blank. That's not my opinion, that's the opinion of virtually every experienced traveler I've ever heard (present company excepted) on CRT.

On CRT just a month or so ago another guy got beat up pretty bad. He was a friend of Phoenix's.

Within the last few months a lot of the guys have been talking about things that have happened and talking about what to do about it (some suggestions more reasonable than others), but the point is that it's generally considered to be unsafe. I heard that from every experienced monger in SJ. You're the first to disagree. That's cool. I respect your opinion. But you are the first I've heard blow it off.

If you wish to run the statistics, that's fine. I'm not lecturing you. You know what you're doing. But let's not sugar coat it and blow it off. This is serious stuff. We can hypothesize from the comfort of our keyboards, but I wouldn't want to be a contributing factor of some kid getting his head kicked in by 5 Ticos for his $100 because we told him Morazon was a good place to walk through at night on his way from SL to the DR.

I don't want to sound too fear-mongering either (perhaps I came across that way). But I just don't think it's worth it. It didn't take me any more than the ride from the airport to the SL to realize "I don't think we're in Kansas any more Toto". SJ is different than Bangkok. I wouldn't walk Klong Toey at night either, but that's the exception. But don't misunderstand that I'm suggesting that all of those things I listed were "less" dangerous than SJ. That's not what I'm saying. What I was showing is that I've been there and done that, so it's not like I've lived my life in a bubble. I wouldn't do many of the things I've done in my past again now. That's the point of being older and wiser.

I guess YMMV. But I'm sticking to what I've been told, and what I've seen. And I would second the common saying on CRT "Rule #1, put your butt in a taxi, Rule #2 ???"

    archie,
if you've really done all those things you say you have then i'm really surprised you think sj is so bad. i'm not saying walking everywhere in sj after dark is a like a walk in the park, but i would say walking most of those routes that you mentioned are certainly no more dangerous than some of the other things you have done. we all need to put things in perspective and not blow things out of proportion. there are many things we all do that if you could look at it statistically are much more dangerous than those walks that you described.

i've walked back from idem to the hdr/bm after it closed (around midnight) and walked back from the hdr/bm to my hotel on avenida 9 many times after dark and never had any problem. i've even done those things solo (more times than not). i'm not saying that it is perfectly safe (what is?), but it is a calculated risk that at least sometimes makes sense.

sure a cab only costs a buck or two, but that is a buck or two every time. what are the real odds of getting mugged and what are the likely consequences?

like i said, i've done short walks dozens of times and have never been mugged. have i just been lucky? perhaps. or maybe there is something else about how i go about it? like i said before i usually walk alone. that certainly is not a factor in my favor and yet based on my experience the odds have been less than 1 in dozens of walks for me. a couple more caveats. if it were a matter of walking through a really dangerous area like parque central or the zona roja, or some great distance, then i'd spring for a cab. but i could sprint from the hdr all the way to the sl before the trannies even knew what was happening if i had to. btw, i'd also never cheap out and undertake such a walk with a chica because a) she probably couldn't run so easily if we needed to (particularly if she were in high heels) and b) i'm not a cad who would run and leave her to fend for herself. i'd also never walk it if i were drunk, which from what i've seen is a common factor in many of the robberies that i've seen reported. i'm 6'1" 205lbs, in pretty good shape, and walk very purposefully and alertly, which might discourage some would-be muggers, but i realize i'm no match for a guy (or group of guys) with a gun if i were to let them get close enough to pull one. which is another thing. i try not to let anyone get that close. i watch where i'm going and glance back frequently behind me. i'll cross the street or even walk a block or 2 out of my way to avoid any questionable character(s) and i'll even run if i think i have to. but, if i ever was cornered, i'd give up my money without a fight. these are all fairly common sensical things to do if you're going to walk at night (or even, sometimes and in some places around the world, during the day), but you'd be surprised how many guys make stupid mistakes and those are the ones who make the odds seem so much worse than they really are. so the chances of any walker who takes those basic precautions of getting mugged are much less than the certainty of the cabfare no matter how small that amount might be.

and what would these walkers lose? physically speaking, i haven't heard of any gringos getting killed by muggers and the only ones i have heard of getting at all seriously injured are the ones that resist. chances of anything that bad happening if you cooperate are remote in the extreme (you might as well worry about your chances of getting hit by a car crossing avenida 2 or 5 during the day as being murdered by a mugger after dark). much more possibly and at worst you might get a few gratuitous punches or scrapes from being shoved down but probably not even that. you'll probably be more nerved up by the experience than anything else, but that is nothing a stiff drink can't cure and what a good tale you'd have to tell your buddies about over those drinks. what about potential financial losses? the other key is to never be so stupid as to carrying more than you'd be prepared to lose. some of these guys who have been mugged report losing such things as gold chains, watches, or the money that they probably flashed around back at the bar. what did they think might happen? maybe the mugger just got lucky or maybe these guys did something beyond just being a gringo to advertise their value as target. i never wear jewelry (who am i trying to impress? the chicas so she'll think she can get more money from me?). at most i have a cheap watch and usually not even that. and i never go out at night with more cash than i need to pay for a few drinks. usually, by the time i go home i have less than $5 remaining. the chica money stays back at my hotel in the safe and even then only comes out at the end of any session.

the favorite rationale you guys use is that "the cab only costs a buck". i'm sorry, but that is faulty logic. if you're going to reduce your argument to the cost of just one trip to make it seem more minor, then you also have to reduce your analysis to just the odds for that same one trip. over time there may be a lot of gringos getting mugged, but the odds for just one trip are even more minor then the cabfare. just do the math. if you walk the short distance back to your hotel 100 times instead of taking the $1 cab and the chances of being mugged on any walk is only 1 in 100 (i think it is even less than that) and you only carry at most $20 at any one time, that means you'll be spending at least $100 to save at most $20. it doesn't seem like such a minor cost savings when you look at it that way.

once again, i am not saying walking sj after dark is perfectly safe and i am not recommending it if one does not at least take the precautions i've described. what i am saying is what risks there are are often greatly exaggerated based usually on hearsay and anecdotal thirdhand reports where all the contributing details are left out or not known. you hear frequently about those but you don't think how many more guys leave cr without anything like that happening to them. and the guys who have been mugged, how many trips had they taken before it happened to them? frankly, if you want to talk about relative risk, in terms of frequency if not also cost, then i think you should worry more about getting tricked or hustled by the chicas and various ticos that hang out by the hdr. probably far more has been lost due to rfm's to guys after they've gone home than has ever been lost to muggers while they were in cr.

    Sir Real

    Sir Real,

I'm glad you made it back safely. But PLEASE listen to the guys who tell you it's not safe to walk at night in SJ. It's REALLY not. The girls know better than any of us, they're in it all the time and you heard and saw the fear in her when you even suggested such a thing.

You can probably walk from SL to Castillo, but not as far as ZB or NF (of course, you wouldn't really be doing that at night anyway, but it's an example.

You can walk from SL to Cafe Mundo for example, but NOT to the DR.

You can walk from the DR to Avenida Central, but no farther (like Idem).

The only time we did any walking was when there were 6 of us, and even then it's dodgy (we had four guys over 250lbs). And I'm probably bigger than you are, so that's not the issue.

Taxis don't cost squat. Seriously. Please use them. Even when you get ripped off and pay 1-2K it's still more than worth it. Add up all the money you'd ever spend on Taxis at night and it's negligible compared to getting seriously hurt with the potential for permanent damage (even if unintended, and a fluke).

I've walked all over the world at all hours of the night, from the former Soviet States to back-alley Bangkok. I've slept on a ship in the Baltic with bikers who were on the run, and on park benches in New York. I've stumbled half conscious through Asia at 3AM and had no problems. But I wouldn't walk in SJ at night if you paid me.

First Trip to the Land of Pura Vida

Well, I finally made my newbie trip to San Jose Feb. 29 to March 6. I had a both relaxing and busy time. I didn’t get in to my room until about 6pm at the Vista Linda. After a very long day of travel I crashed around 9pm.

I took the bus downtown the next morning with one of the regular visitors at the VL. We arrived at the Del Rey around 10:00am. Though it was a bit slow because of the early hour I felt as though I had arrived in the promise land. All that I had read before was true; women of all shapes, sizes, looks and personalities were working on getting in this middle-aged fat boy’s pants for the right price. For the price of a regular drink a lady will hang with you and allow full access to her merchandise while trying to close the deal. After a few drinks my friend from the VL had to leave but I hung out for another hour taking in the scenery and enjoying the slice of life that is the Blue Marlin. I didn’t field any of the offers being it was early in the day. But I do now regret turning one in particular down. Oh well, a newbie mistake.

I spent a few hours walking around town and having lunch at a soda. It was odd for me to see rice, pasta and mashed potatoes on the same plate. Starchy! I later returned to the Del Rey and met up with some CRT members. All seemed to be nice guys who were helpful to this newbie. Someone mentioned the talent was good that day at New Fantasy. I got a cab for NF but was taken to Zona Blue. My guess is the cabbie gets some money to take gringos there. I didn’t care, ZB was fine by me.

What a fun but somewhat pricey place to drink. The bartenders there really know how to deal with us crazy and drunk gringos in what is essentially a wild frat party for middle-aged guys. The talent varied in looks and a few of the better known ZB girls were there. I finally picked a pretty and petite Nica girl to pop my newbie cherry. Sorry but I’m bad with names. It was pretty good for my first session, though I doubt I would repeat with her, She had a few too many restrictions; no deep kissing, bbbj or dining at the Y.

The next day being Sunday I just relaxed, caught up on emails and did some grocery shopping. The perfect weather made relaxing all the better.

On Monday I met with a retired monger at the HDR to take a walking tour of low end Massage Parlors. I finally ended up at La Mansion. I took the hour session for a total cost of about $24. (See photo section). Though the girl was young and inexperienced it was a pretty good session. I had sessions at two other low end MP’s during my trip. One was a soapy massage (unique for San Jose) and a place somewhere on Calle 6. Both were exceptionally good sessions.

A note to all newbies: Though San Jose is a large city, with the exception of downtown there are no street names and very few street signs. Places are found by landmarks for directions and by the names of barrios. Now I understand why people here and on CRT debate the locations of bars and other places.

I know some are not keen on staying at the Vista Linda because it’s not in the middle of the action and some see the location as a bad neighborhood. It was easy enough to get the bus downtown a block away though I always took a cab back at night. A cab cost about $2 and the bus $0.34. I had no problem walking anywhere in the area in the daytime. Night was different but that’s the way it is all over San Jose. The Vista Linda is a very cost effective way to stay in San Jose and away from the noise of downtown at night. My room had a full kitchen and private bath. The place is very clean and well run by Carlos the owner, who is a heck of a nice guy. The regular and long time residents at Vista Linda gave me invaluable information on how to make the best of my all too short week in SJ. When I come back to visit SJ, Vista Linda will again be my residence.

Like Jerry Springer, here are some final thoughts: Costa Rica is a great place to visit and I really enjoyed just being there. Most Ticos and North Americans I met were very friendly and helpful. This was my first mongering trip to a Latin American locale and I hope to return soon. I never got out of the city to do any tours or visit other towns, just bad scheduling on my part but certainly will next time. I highly recommend TACA Airlines. They have newer planes, my flights and connections were always on time and the airfare (IAD to SJO $270.44 RT w/ all fees and taxes) was fantastic. Even though I RTFF several times over I made a few rookie mistakes (probably could have got laid more) but all-in-all a great trip!

    PURA VIDA!

    Sportmen's Lodge

Had a crazy time in SJO. Hooked up at the Sportsmen’s Lodge with fellow mongers. Went strip club hoping one night and learned a new term, ‘HIGH SCHOOL’ hard on—the marvels of medical science. Everyone got the TICA club discount at most places. I will get a card for my next trip. AVOID KABAR. They would not honor card and tried to hit us for $20.00 cover each—nine of us

The Lodge is a great place and a good value. Cuba Libra 1,500 CR ($3.00) and full American breakfast was 2,500 CR. A good continental breakfast is include and sleep over TICAs can eat free.

Another monger had one tica from the Del Ray asked $200/hr and when asked if there was s discount for two hours, she laughed. He kept looking. The Chop was able to get an all nighter for $50. Had to tell her I’d be back in May to marry her. It will be my fault if she never trust another man for the rest of her life.

New Fantasy was not has good as others said. The one I was with said she was breast feeding and did not want me to touch her breast. Five minutes working on my back, the flip, two minutes, lube and then she started a HJ. Asked for more and she put on rain gear and started a lame BJ. It would seem you have to be very specific what you want including breast touching. To much BS for me.

On a different night had a good tome with a Columbian also from the Del Ray. Negotiated to 70. Got back to the room and tipped an extra 30 great service

San Jose - Day 6 Report

Rzoll and dear concerned friends, I am writing these reports from the safety of my home in California. Although I did walk all over SJ in my week there, I never encountered any problems. I have RTFF and did not recall any of our fellow hobbyists having any trouble with crime in the streets, so that is why I thought I could walk all over the city with no fear. I guess it also helps that I am a pretty big guy. I don't know, maybe I was just lucky. At the end of today's report, there was an interesting incident relating to this very issue but one has to read on for that story.

My last full day in CR and friends back home told me I had to go to Arenal Volcano and the Tabacon hot springs resort before I leave C. R. I was hesitant to go because it seems more like a couples place; but, I figured this maybe the only time in my life I will be visiting CR so I had better go while I had the chance. Who knows, I may meet some single women. After a long bus ride, we never even got to see Arenal because clouds and rain obscured the view of the volcano. The resort was full of bickering couples (old and young) and the single women were uninteresting, to say the least. I have enjoyed hot springs in other countries (NZ, Japan) and this was just more of the same, but more catered for tourists. The only saving grace was the dinner buffet and some American guys I befriended.

Back in SJ after a real long ride in the fog on narrow country roads in a gigantic behemoth of a bus, I took my last half tab of generic V, turning my tongue blue because I grounded it up and let it dissolve under my tongue for quicker absorption. A short, safe walk through the Amon district led me to VIP's Taberna. The first babe to catch my eye sat by the door, displaying the most cavernous cleavage I have ever seen. She was talking to her friend so I just walked by and sat at the bar, waiting for an opening (literally). When I had my attention diverted, some other jerk on the prowl took her. Damn! After a while, I focused my attention on a young, skinny, and very pretty blond with nice jugs, but not as impressive as the door girl's. When I spoke with Melissa, I felt like I was in high school again. She was that young looking. Luckily, when Melissa escorted me to our room in the back, I got to see the chesty door girl walk around naked in the hallway after leaving the shower room. To my great relief, those ample bosoms that so impressed me turned out to be fake. Now, for the time being, I was glad I chose Melissa. Once inside our standard SJ grungy fun room, we got down to business and thanks to the English generic V pill I took earlier, for me this business would be good. The session started off on a sour note as she would not do BBBJ. Oh well, I could look past that since she was so attractive. Her technique though left much to be desired. The second strike was that she would not take off her top. WTF? She explained that she recently had a baby (which I could not believe because she was so skinny) and that she was still lactating. I told her I didn't care, so she whipped out her tits and promptly squirted mother's milk all over my stomach. At this, I started to think about Monica Belluci's lactating prostitute character in the movie "Shoot them' Up. " When we were finally in intercourse, I can confirm that she just had a baby. She was definitely loose alright. When I politely asked for culito, she vehemently denied. The third strike occurred when I asked her about her age. An innocent question, so I had thought. Melissa became all defensive and would not say. I knew she looked young but how young? I assumed she had to be over 18 to work there. Since she was not going to tell me, I had had enough. I was still polite and courteous but I was adamant that this session was over. I left VIP's and walked to the Del Rey hotel.

This was my last night in SJ after one week and I still had not taken a girl back to the Castillo. What kind of a mongerer am I? Against my better judgment, I went back to the world famous Blue Marlin. I have already struck out twice here but I figured any girl I pick up would be a better experience than with Melissa at VIP's. Fortunately, the first chica I spoke to was Raquel, a 30-something Tica. She was attractive and had a friendly smile, which was all that I needed. She did not seem as cold and money-hungry as the Colombianas I had encountered earlier in the week. Since it was getting late, I did not want to waste any time so I proposed we walk back to the Castillo and get to know each other a bit along the way. She promptly refused to do that, saying it was too dangerous to walk through the park. She actually did have a look of fear in her eyes. I relented and we both got in to a cab. Once back in my room, Raquel turned out to be an all-star, a real GFE. For the longest time, we were doing it so hard and heavy (thanks generic V! ), my neighbors objected by banging on the walls. I wanted to give a pearl necklace since her breasts were so nice. She obliged and I squirted one out so wildly that one big chunk actually made a loud noise when it landed on the floor several feet away. I accidentally got a little in her hair and she reacted like she was just doused with acidic blood from one of those "Aliens" movie creatures. Why do so many women have problems with our natural hair conditioner? It certainly helped Cameron Diaz in "There's Something about Mary. " Aside from this minor incident, Raquel was a fantastic way to spend my last night in Costa Rica.

Pro, you are funny. Actually, I used the last phrase with a date in San Jose. The girl smiled and asked me, "Are you a professor or something?" So much for my textbook Spanish.

    Sir real,

That girl you hit back door (42 year old) I have did many times and she loves the back door. I have bar fined her a few times and she aways is sure to please. And is very sweet to me.

Even if I take a girl right in front of her she never gets pissed or acts mad. Those rooms are bad so the 20. 00 to bar fine a girl you know will be a good time is money well spent.

  10. #1159
That's no joke last year 3 trannies took a friend of mine to the ground, punching and kicking him in the park next to DR. mind you he's a much smaller with a docile type of personality. So I understand why they took advantage of him we were all well-informed.

I guess he didn't believe it. He does now $875. It cost and the rest of the trip with a black eye and bruises.

I have to say, as someone who has done more than his share of walking after dark around SJ, that walking all the way back from VIPS Molino Rojo to the Castillo at the time of night you must have done it is something I would definitely NOT recommend. And reviewing you recent posts, I see that this was actually not the first night you did that. Frankly, I'd have thought you'd have learned the first time after seeing the neighborhood Arcadas and Molino are in. It does not surprise me that you managed to get back to your hotel safely those 2 times, but you were really pushing your luck.

First of all, this is not like taking a cab from the BM to the Presidente. What you did was a pretty decent distance no matter what time of day it is. Add the night factor and it would definitely be well worth it to spend the lousy buck or two to get a ride home. Secondly, even if you wanted to walk as much for the fresh night air as to save the dollar, there are much safer areas to walk through then the ones between Molino and the Gulch (particularly around Parque Central) and the area on the other side of the Gulch going towards the Castillo is no great shakes late at night either. I agree with your earlier assessment that the trannies are more a joke than a real threat but you still don't want to let them get too close because they've been known to swarm a guy, feeling him up under the pretense of trying to hustle a date while the other TV's pick the poor sucker's pockets.

Aside from that I think your descriptions of Molino (and Arcadas, the BM and other places) really captured their essence. There actually is a sign for Molino that is located on the corner by the intersection, but everything else you described is right on the mark. As for the dance stage and energy level, I wouldn't just chalk it up to being a Sunday night. That seems to have been the case just about every time I've been in there. Occasionally, I've actually seen a girl go on stage but, as rare as that seems to be, I'm not really sure why they even have a stage. At least at Arcada's they dance and strip so you can more easily and thoroughly "check them out before buying". The chicas at either of these places are not exactly "prime cut" but you can get some very decent sessions there and the price is certainly right. The back rooms are just as grungy as you described if not more so. I'd half think about bringing a plastic bed sheet with me to lay down for protection but when you consider where you're sticking your dick I guess one has to have kind of a high tolerance for grunge anyway.

BTW, they have a vieja who takes care of the rooms at places like this and Arcadas (though you wouldn't think anyone takes care of them judging by the grunge) and I guess whose real job is to knock on doors when the sessions are up. It might not hurt to give her a small propina on the way in and quietly ask for "un poco más tiempo, por favor" when you do, although personally I've always done my deed and gotten out whenever I've sessioned there.

    Sir real,

I enjoy your reports but you are extremely foolish walking everywhere late at night. It is a miracle you have not been robbed already.

Your next report may start with " I was walking home from a bad area late at night when suddenly a gun was in my face"

¿(voluntad tú) traga mi leche? = (will you) swallow my cum?

¿sexo oral con tragando? = oral sex with swallowing?

¿sexo oral con deglucion? = oral sex with ingesting?

I suppose they could all work, at least when spoken in context, but I think I'll still stick with my first choice. These are uneducated hookers we're dealing with here, not MD's. And I'm hoping to have sex with them, not conduct a medical exam. What would you say next?

¿copulemos vaginalmente? = Shall we copulate vaginally?

    I don't think so.

BTW, "tomar" normally means "to take" so I don't see how that might apply at all to this situation, but maybe Macrino is familiar with some local vernacular that I'm not.

San Jose - Day 5 Report

After spending all day at the crowded (it was a Sunday) and overrated Quepos and Manuel Antonio Park areas, we did not get back to S. J. Until it was past 10. I still had that generic C in my system so I had time to do some meat shopping.

Malino Rojo is a club just down the street from Arcadas and it is a very Tico club. There is no sign in the front of the place but you can't miss it because the exterior is lit up like it was a night club. Those of you looking for high end decor and a bright, clean atmosphere would not like this establishment. There was a stage but no stripper and there were plenty of customers but the energy level was kind of dead. I chalked it up to it being a typical Sunday night. The first chica to catch my eye was a little spinner (not usually my first choice) with short hair standing by herself. In the darkness of the room, "Medea" looked young and she had a friendly personality. I liked her right away so it was off to the back we go. Once inside our grungy room, the first thing I did was stomp on a cockroach skittering across the floor. The buzz of the florescent lights gave the room an eerie ambiance, not to mention the decrepit condition of the bed, the window, and the wall paint. This was a joyless environment. Luckily, Medea and I supplied our own joy, and a lot of it too. The BBBJ was excellent but when it was time for the CG, I noticed how loose she was, even for such a little woman. After more than a half hour of action, she kind of noticed my inability to climax and I did not want to tell her how loose she was down there. After a brief conversation, I found out that she was 42 (? ! ) and she has had six children. I am not exactly a small guy but even I could not really get a good grip. Like a trooper, Medea suggested the culito and I happily obliged. Isn't she great? Not much longer, I had a magnificent climax. I tipped her nicely because she deserved it. I walked back to Castillo with a very big smile on my face.

Actually, I learned the word in a Spanish course for health care professionals and had much occasion to use it professionally. So you are right on the mark. I guess "tragando" is better for everyday use.
