2)Any recommended one on one spanish instructors? I saw one spanish school online that is close to centro that charges 20 dollars an hour for 1 on 1 instruction. Sounds a bit expensive for central america (1 on 1 instruction in Ecuador was 4 dollars.

I was thinking more in terms of if I purchased a sim card from the local carrier there and had it installed. In DR you can take your phone to the Claro or Orange store and have it activated with the sim card they install in your phone. I was just wondering if the same could be done with your phone in CR.

Who is the major carrier in SJO btw?

I've done that buy purchasing a cheap phone when I go to Panama and the Dominican, can't see that CR would be any different. But I only use for local calls. I imagine if you use the international code, it could be done. Not sure who the national carrier is, can probably google it.

I advise against. If you leave it on, you will rack up all kinds of international charges for any downloads (email, text, etc) while it's on. I recommend you buy into Skype to use on your laptop or rent a phone while you're there.
