I need to fly somehwere tomorrow for a week long sexcation. How is the scene in Hotel Del Rey and Sportsman lodge these days? Are there enough girls available to choose from? I visited last in 2018 and loved it then. But, recent posts suggest del rey is closed for construction?

I have been to both Sportsman in San jose and Jaco. I liked SPortsman a lot more. Jaco used to come alive only at night time, while in sportsmans, there were always girls available and I could just walk to del rey to pick someone and bring back to sportsman.

My question: How is the scene in sportsman and Hotel Dely rey these days? Going through recent posts is telling me that things have massively slowed down and is del rey closed?? I don't want to land there and realize its a dead city. I visited san jose last in 2018, so basically loved it then, but trying to understand if it is worth visiting today and enough girls are there during day and night times OR should I just go to Tijuana.

Just an honest curiosity question about the Sportsman because after ten years of staying here off and on. I don't know the answer?

I have flirted with several of the barmaids on my visits over the years. Thought on an occasion or two, I could have talked one or two of them to a night out but usually didn't put any undue pressure because I know this is a good gig for them by CR standards. I understand that management frowns on the bartenders fucking the patrons. W / o mentioning bartenders by name has anyone ever fucked one of the better looking bartenders at the Lodge?

I have not, and have not tried nor been offered. It has happened in the past, and I think the rule was that nothing should happen in the SL, but if the arrangement was made to meet somewhere else it was tolerated. Not so sure if that is even allowed these days. One of the former employees there pushed the limits on all of that and lost her job. Not sure of all the circumstances around that.

I would recommend against trying. Keep it fun and light. There are many many other options. Just my 2 colones worth.

It will likely be slim pickings at 5 a. M and well down the quality scale. If nothing suits you of course you could catch some sleep and get something going in the afternoon, there or at Sportsmans.

As you said, your last experience with Monicas pension was five years ago.

Which isn't especially relevant as my report is factual and the owner / manager of the pension is still the same. He's not liable to change his ways to any real degree at his age. Wink.

While I am not a fan of pensiones as I prefer my own bed, I have had many friends visit Monicas since CR opened up after Covid, all with positive reports. Responsive and helpful management, decent price and no reports of any denials of service.

Then you have no first hand experience, and I'm afraid you also missed the point. The issue wasn't the "denial of service" as you can run into an idiot girl working in any brothel. It was how the owner / manager Robert responded to the situation. The girl was intimidated by my size even though I'm only a little more than average. LOL Plus I had lube with me. Sex was refused and Robert wouldn't bother even with an apology, much less a replacement girl or a total or partial refund like about any brothel / pension / casa, whatever you want to call them, around the world would offer.

He also has a, and I quote, "whoever pays first" policy which allows someone to hit the pay window and snatch a girl away from a customer who is talking to her and working a deal. That's bad business as it very much disrespects both the customer and the girl as they are having a conversation and negotiating. If the guy has been talking to the girl a long time then it's fair for someone to put him on the spot and ask if he wants to take her. However for Robert to abruptly jump out of his cage, towels under his arm and direct the girl to a customer who slithered up to the pay window behind our backs is beyond obnoxious. I did encounter the same at one other place in San Jose, Pension 69 which is now closed. This was actually more obnoxious, as this spot is also a bar, and the girl had a fresh drink in front of her that I bought her. The gringo owner of the Pirate Club back then who I know said such would never happen on his watch. I've never had anything like that happen in Colombia, and have spent at least 25 months there over the last 7 years.

But to sum it up, I'm not spending at Robert's business. I'm also liable to share this info anytime someone recommends the place. Know that if you go there you might wind up on the wrong end of some bad business behavior from management like was just articulated, but that doesn't mean you're guaranteed a bad time. If that were the case his doors wouldn't be open.

Anyway I'm done with this one. I'll leave it to whatever audience may be here to hash it out, attack the messenger, erect straw men, agree, disagree, write a good review for the place, whatever suits you. Have fun out there gentlemen and be safe.

I was in San Jose this last weekend. Saturday afternoon the Sportsmen was dead. As in, no chicas at all dead. Some early afternoon action at the Taormina but nothing really attractive. Also, the Jungle Bar at the Taormina was roped off Friday and Saturday. No idea why.

Monicas pension is probably the highest rated for gringos.

Be advised that you are on your own here. If you get to the room and the girl refuses to keep aspects of the agreement, even to the point of refusing to fuck which happened to me once as well as a friend on a different day, there's no recourse. The owner just sits behind his barred window, will talk about what a great reputation the girl has, or throw up his hands and recite the every trite, "Well that's women for you. " About any other spot in town will at the very least return the room rental portion of the $ collected, but not him.

Also there, and at some other like places in San Jose, anyone can go to the pay window and snatch a girl from you if you are taking a moment to talk to her and work out a deal. This is a favorite move of the passive-aggressive Ticos (male Costa Ricans). This happened to me on one occasion there. I got the BBBJ straight and told the girl "Vamos" (Let's go) but a Tico weasel had slithered up to the pay window, and the owner was out in the lobby before the girl and I had time to stand up LOL, towels in his hand, calling the girl's name and pointing her to her Tico customer. And that's ironic also given that so many "massage" places in San Jose walk on eggshells trying to stay on the other side of pimping laws. In Colombian casas the girl decides who her customer is, as she has the choice as to whether to present herself to a potential customer in the waiting room. Staff never tells her who she is going to the room with.

All that said I haven't been to Costa Rica in almost five years. Once you do Colombia there's no turning back for a lot of us. Each to his own and have fun out there gentlemen.

This will be my first time visiting Costa Rica and that too only for two days Jan 17-19 next week. I am a somewhat experienced monger, older in age, having mongered in South America (Lima, Medellin), Asia (Bangkok, Hanoi, HCMC, Mumbai), and a bit in Europe, over the last 20 years.

I read most of the wonderful posts here over the last few months to build the basic knowledge. So, if my questions below appear nave, please forgive me. Also, I am new to ISG. If I should post this request elsewhere, pl. Advice.

I am looking to have say four encounters, one during the daytime and one in the evening / night on each of the days. I have tentatively booked myself in the Taormina Hotel. Could any of you kindly help me plan in detail my itinerary, by putting yourselves in my shoes, to get the best out of the two days? Some specific questions area:

1. Is Taormina is still one of the best places to stay to take a chica to the room? Given that, which is the best place to pick one up?

2. Do any of the massage parlors offer full service? Which ones are likely to these days? I am less interested in a happy ending stuff like a HJ or a BJ. Full service is my thing..

It sounds like we are in the same age and experience category. I stayed at the Taormina for 3 days last year on the front end of my annual Superbowl Trip. The room was actually very comfortable and the staff was very friendly much like the Sportsman. The Restaurant was also good and had a terrific breakfast. What was lacking was girls during the day. I've been doing CR continuously even during the Pandemic in 2020. I've seen a noticeable decrease in girls at both the Sportsman and Taormina (with the caveat that Friday nights at Taormina get very crowded). Daytime action in the afternoon is definitely the Sportsman. During my 3 days Super Bowl 2022 I saw a few stragglers in the casino. None that I would pay. The problem I encountered at the Sportsman during the day while staying at the Taormina is that the girls don't want to leave for an hour appointment to go back and forth unless it is a very slow day at the Sportsman which it never is around the Super Bowl.

Sincerely, I don't know what to tell you about daytime activity if you're staying at Taormina unless another board member can give you an update or two on a pension.

I'll be interested to see how the Del Rey is this year? I stopped in last year when it first re-opened. It was terrible. Ugly old women and aside from a few slot machines no table games. It wasn't worth the effort then.
