If you're out by the airport and you want to try another stripclub you should check out D'Pelufos. They have another club in San Pedro that is very good but I don't know of anyone that has been to the one in Alajuela. If you go to that one, be sure to give us a report. You also can find some nice mature more upscale nightclubs or discos or whatever you want to call them (by which I don't mean stripclubs) in the Escazu area, but to be honest I can't really tell you anything about them.

Your GF probably has El Pueblo pegged pretty good. You might have noticed, I sort of similarly qualified my comments about that place and Calle Amargura in my earlier post. You get a lot of late teens early 20's kids at El P w/under 18 kids hanging and parading outside (and I'm sure often sneaking into the clubs, so be careful). and it can definitely get rowdy. Calle Amargura in San Pedro near UCR is more college-age (ie also young) and has also had problems but police have cracked way down on a lot of that. For a more mature and civilized night spot, I really like the Jazz Cafe just a couple of blocks past Calle Amargura. No dancing there but some really good music. El Cuartel, back towards downtown, gets a little more mature crowd of twenty and thirty somethings in a rambunctious meat market atmosphere (but no violence). And for serious salsa dancing try Salsa 54. Club Vertigo is also young but tightly managed with the best sound and light system in SJ and techno music that personally I can't take for any great length of time.

As for your stripclub choices, I don't think any of them are that great but you could have gone to far worse ones. You might want to try the Pantera Rosa on the south end of town the next time you go out or if its a sunday night go to D'Pelufos in San Pedro for their special floor show.

I simply didn't know where else to go. She wasn't keen on El Pueblo - too many fights & drugs she said. And the times before I had been there it seemed to be a much younger, louder crowd.

Try El Cuartel on Monday nights. They have live music then, and the place gets jam-packed. I like it there on Mondays myself.

Your comments are valid. My gal lives with her Mom, her father died 5 years ago. I've been to her home (lower class by US standards, middle by L.A. standards, IMO). She dresses nice. I don't know that she was aware of what I spent at Lipstick.

Trip number 5 turned out to be by far the best yet, and I’m already chomping at the bit to go back. Alas, it looks like I will have to wait until early December. I’ve somehow managed a three-week trip to Peru and a 10-day, sex-drenched jaunt to San Jose all in the last three months, and this has definitely put a strain on this working boy’s budget (at 51, I love to refer to myself as a working boy).

A brief, categorized summary:

ZONA BLUE
By far the best time I have ever had there. I decided to concentrate on two-girl sessions, and it really paid off. There was a definite synergy involved with every session, as if the ladies were feeding off each other (sometimes, literally) and competing to see who could show me the best time. I enjoyed two sessions with Vanessa and Naomi, one with Pamela and Naomi, one with Pamela and Vanessa, one with Pamela and Andrea (smoking hot), and another with Andrea and Vanessa. Vanessa was the only lady I’d been with before (4 or 5 times), and I was absolutely stunned by the improvement in her energy, attitude and demeanor. I mean enthusiastic DFK and BBBJs and everything else, other than a reluctance to be photographed below the face. Pamela was absolutely outstanding – an incredible combination of hype (e.g., all the praise and acclaim on this board) AND substance. I mean, she REALLY delivered. What a great personality, accompanied by limitless energy and enthusiasm, and she’s a very attractive, shapely lady to boot. I’ll never forget taking photos of Naomi while Pamela was demonstrating her incredible oral skills. Ditto for Naomi. I thought she was an absolute doll. She went out of her way to treat me right, and she definitely has a sense of humor, enjoying playing the tease from time to time and hurling friendly little insults here and there.
While these ladies were truly magnificent, the ZB highpoint for me was getting down with Andrea, the newby with the super model looks and a super personality. Besides the two doubles with Andrea, I also hooked up with her for two one-on-one sessions, and they were fabulous. I feel EXTREMELY lucky I was able to spend a total of 4 hours with her before the inevitable word gets out. See my upcoming posts in the photo section for an idea of what I’m talking about. BTW, She used three different names while I was in town: Andrea, Andria, and Adrianna!
In sum, 4 magnificent ladies. I tipped them 10,000 colones apiece for every session, for absolutely exceptional service.

SPORTSMENS
I’ve stayed there every trip, and I still love the place. There seemed to be more available women this trip than any time in the past. I hooked up with Andrea on three separate occasions (NOT the ZB Andrea), a blond hottie with a smoking body (petite, lovely breasts) who speaks pretty good English and is obviously intelligent. She first quoted me $100, and we settled on $80. Other than CBJs, she was pretty fabulous (I guess ZB got me spoiled in this regard). I also hooked up a couple of times with Wanda, 26, a lovely, intelligent lady who looks a little better with her clothes on, but who is sexy and totally worthwhile nonetheless. I also sessioned a couple of times with Marta, a very slender, hot blond familiar to many CRT members. In truth, I enjoyed her company but was not overly impressed. She seemed to be in a slight hurry both times after spending what seemed like an eternity getting ready in the bathroom behind a closed door. Her performance was somewhat mechanical, and her CBJs were uninspiring. Oh well, a cute girl with a lovely behind and a nice smile, rating a C+ in my book. She asked for $100 as well, settling for $80. While I normally shoot for $60 short-time sessions, I really don’t mind paying $80, figuring that includes tip and potential taxi fare!

HOLD’EM AT THE CLARION
As stated, the weekly Sunday Hold’em tourney has moved from the SL to the Clarion, with Bktuna still supervising. They also have a nice daily no-limit game with $1 and $2 blinds. I played 5 sessions there my last week in town and encountered a mostly full table every time, yet there was always one open seat, and I never had to wait. I found the dealers to be professional and the place well-managed. I once played a lot of limit poker in Nevada, yet this was my first exposure to no-limit action, and I really enjoyed myself.
Yet another reason to return!

Thanks for the clarification on RFM. I have received a few of them. Of course any RFM should be ignored unless you have an ongoing relationship with a chica, in which case it's a matter of discretion. There must be a plethora of sick "mamas" and "abuelitas" throughout Latin America.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, in the above two sentences I quoted, you should use "esta" (sorry, my computer doesn't do accent marks) because they are temporary situations. Remember an oversimplified rule of thumb: permanent=ser; temporary=estar. Exception: place names, e.g., "San Jose esta en Costa Rica." This may sound trivial to us, but misusing these two verbs will be grating to a native speaker. (Not that it would keep you from getting laid, but using correct grammar may add to your charm.) "Request for Money" often comes in a phone call or e-mail to you while you're back home and not really getting anything for it (assuming you took the risk of giving her your contact info) with all the usual rationales but sometimes also outlandish ones ("mi mama es enfirmado", "mi papa es en el carcel", "el perro comió mi homework") and lots of reassuring "mi amors" and "mi corazons". If you already know she's a pro it might be how much she hates working at the BM or whereever and how if you wire her the money she won't have to work there anymore, even though she really will whenever you're not around and is probably e-mailing 1-2 other gringo sucker "novios" with the same scam.

BTW, I know my spanish is pretty bad and I'd like it to get better, but at least it gets me around. thanks for the correction.

My dos colones? Why Lipstixx? All you said was BAR or nightclub. What about old nightspot zones like El Pueblo or Calle Amargura (although those areas tend to have a much younger crowd than either of you)? Or, if those don't work, El Cuartel, Disco Castro, Salsa 54, Club Vertigo, Jazz Cafe, just to name a few more "normal" places?

Any chica that would come up with someplace like Lipstixx on her own (you said "she picked the place, not me"), let alone go in there with you, has to be at least a semi-pro if not full-time pro and not just some middle class girl like you made out. Tica girls of class just don't want to risk even being seen going in to such places let alone hanging out in one. Ticas, like most latinas, also tend to be very jealous. They may understand that "todos hombres estan perros" and chase other chicas but they're not about to actually encourage it themselves by taking any guy they're really interested in to stripjoint. You call her middle class, but she doesn't speak any english. Is she educated? Where does she say she makes her money?

Maybe you haven't given her any money YET (I have no idea how extensive your gift-giving has been or how much your wingman was paying back at the HDR where for many "cien" rules), but I see an RFM somewhere in your future if you keep going out with her. Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if she already has made a little money off your dates only indirectly as kickbacks from Lipstixx for steering you in there 3 nights in a row. Just out of curiosity, did she seem to know anybody in there.

Or maybe she wasn't getting any kickbacks, then why Lipstixx? Because she likes to see you spend a lot of money taking her out? Believe me, no tica would choose to spend that type of money if it were her own. $40-60 for 3 hours of just making out may seem like a good deal to you, but you shouldn't have to take your girl to am essentially dead place with "sub-prime" dancers and overpriced drinks to do that. You could take her someplace where you could both have fun doing some real "dirty dancing" (with probably a fair amount of making out at the tables between dance sets as well) then take her back to your place for a helluva lot more than making out (which I certainly hope you also did anyway). For some chicas (at least the semi-pro types) guys spending a lot of money on them is an even more powerful aphrodisiac than taking them out dancing (which works more often for the genuine non-pros).

I don't mean to be entirely negative about your post. I agree that GFE is available in SJ even for old dogs like ourselves. How "readily" I'm not so sure. That last fact about being able to visit every month was one critical factor you had previously left out. And, in the case of your "novia", I strongly suspect that GFFE might be a better description - GirlFriend Fantasy Experience. Still who really cares as long as it at least feels like a real GFE and you're ready and able to turn down any RFM that turns up when the fantasy inevitably blows up.

....I've got pics. And I do admit the "finest ass in town" comment might have been a bit biased.... And no, I didn't give her any money though I certainly spent some money on her (restaurants, baby doll outfits, lingerie, jeans, etc). What I spent was less than what my wing man was spending at the HDR for ST lovin'.

I guess my point is that GFE is readily avialable in SJO even for an old dog like me - hell she's 25 years my junior & her mother approves! My advantage over most is that I travel a lot for a living (I'm semi-retired) and am able to "stop by" San Jose once a month or more at essentially no cost to me.

On my last visit a few weeks ago I found a new novia (at least for the time being...) She's a gorgeous 30 y/o, middle class gal that speaks zero English, which has been challenging for me. Anyway, after our first date I asked if she wanted to go to a bar or nightclub for some vino. [BTW....does "nightclub" mean "strip joint" in CR???]

She picked Lipstick three nights in a row. Good points: very gringo friendly (of course) with nice little enclaves with couches which were perfect for more private groping & cuddling. We could see the stage well but were pretty much out of view of most of the customers. Drinks are high - about like Atlantis - 2 drinks apiece was $40US. Interestingly one day 5 drinks were $40 and the next day 6 drinks were $60. Not cheap but well worth it in my case.

On the down side, IMHO most of the gals were a little sub-prime. It is totally nude but there's also a lot of dead time (again it didn't affect me).

Another night we headed to Josephines (thankfully the doorman told us it was now gay) and then on to Atlantis. We left Atlantis & returned to Lipstick because Atlantas was clearly set up for men only. There was only one couch & it was in a well-lighted walkway. No thanks, Lipstick was just fine. Pricing at Atlantis was $20 each for 2 drinks.
