I stayed at the Hotel Dunn Inn which is literally right across the street on the corner of Avenida 11 and Calle 5. It's about a 1-2 min walk to the Tao. The entrance is kept locked at night with an armed guard on post. My room was small but breakfast was decent. The front desk and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Just beware there is a $20-22 USD charge for each Tica you bring back. And they don't offer any kind of shuttle from the airport although they will call a taxi for you going to the airport or anywhere else in town. Hope this helps.

I was in SJO the last week of April and had a good time. I stayed right across from the Taormina so I was in there every night after my touristy day. Almost every gal quoted me at 100 usd although a few quoted me at 120 usd and one quoted me at 200 usd. Needless to say, I passed on the higher offers. I counted with Colones and they were were fine with 50K.

I started my mongering life in Costa Rica, and I'm planning to make a return. I recall that the picture culture there was fantastic in that the girls were quite willing to let you snap some in the room, and almost always with no upcharge to do so. The only usual restriction was no face, and sometimes certain tattoos. What are things like now regarding this? Are most of the girls still willing to allow some pics? And what about any related upcharging? Thanks for any details on this.

Barrio Escante is not really close to Taormina, but as in San Jose nothing is that far apart It is walkable. But I've never heard of Bee Escalante. Must be a small botique place and I would be very surprised if they were chica friendly. The only way to know is to ask them before hand.

PS... Went on maps and found it, I do know the condo building where this appears to be a collection of a couple suites that are also on Airbnb. A friend of mine has stayed there but not sure if it was under that group or another unit on Airbnb. Every owner has their own rules about guests so no point in me speculating. My guess is that if they don't say anything in their rules section (on an Airbnb listing) then it may be ok. But other condo buildings in the area do have pretty strict rules about guests, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were building rules as well as individual owner rules.

I will be making my first trip to Costa Rica next month staying at a hotel call Bee Escalante close to the Taormina. I'm wondering if anyone has stayed there before and what they think. Also, when visiting bars such as Taormina, is it possible for the girls to come back to my hotel? And lastly, what do you recommend to do during the days as I will be there for 5 days? Appreciate the advice.

Good place but pricy these days. 50 bucks gets your started before extras.

And BTW, what is the current setup of the Taormina? Did they finally widen that little bar on the right with the loud music. Everyone was packed in there, and the whole casino floor was empty. Seemed like wasted space.

There is no "dance scene" in the Taormina unless some of the hookers get drunk and dance in the sports bar. However, you can walk up the street to Little Havana where it's more of a neighborhood bar vibe and girls will get up and dance there. The "little bar" you refer to, I believe you're talking about the room that has been converted to a poker room. There was another small room past the reception desk by the stairway, but that was torn down and the casino opened up. They now have a nice bar offf the sports bar that has a big bar and ample seating. However, this are doesn't really get much attention, unless you pull a girl, out of the sports bar and want sit somewhere where music isn't blaring.

No. Its a spanish word. Pension or plural pensiones. In Costa Rica it is the spanish word for small hotel or small short term hotel. In reality every place called that seems to be a place where sex workers are the main customers for the rooms, and their customers are the reason they rent the rooms by the hour. The owners legally are running a hotel type business, and the girls (or guys I suppose) are independent prostitutes.

Nix. When I was at the Taormina the weekend after Super Bowl. Aside from the Main Bar attached to the casino. There were literally 20 young hotties hanging out on the catwalk and the pool table area before you walked downstairs to the Sportsbar. I chatted up one who couldn't have been more than 21 cute, young and skinny. I asked her a price for all night. Her response. I have to call my girlfriend. "I don't know". Then she told me her GF was upstairs with a guy and wouldn't be back for another hour. As you said. The weekend brings out some cute gems!

That's a common scene; girls sitting alone because their GF is upstairs getting her "rent money". The downside to places in CR is that the girls travel in packs. But, a lot of times it is as you describe, one girl who is breaking in another new girl into the scene. Generally, I look for the girls who are alone and a bit on the shy side. They're not plentiful, but every now and again, you find one.

Club Alcazar is a strip club with nice, clean rooms on site. I've had a dozen or so excellent, reasonably-priced sessions (for a SJ strip club) there and it was one of my go-to places before the pandemic. Haven't been back since.

SL is a 5-7 minute walk (all uphill) from the Taormina. Best to use a taxi if late at night though. During the afternoon and evening it's a generally safe walk too and from the SL and Taormina. The girls in SL and Castillo are mostly regulars who will go to other bars as well. Though the girls in those venues are a bit aged, for the most part. The Castillo is probably the most crowded during football season when a lot of regulars who frequent there are in town. That said, most of the bars pick up over American holidays because that's when we typically choose to travel.

The Taormina has its old regulars too (some holdovers from the old Del Rey), but there are some hidden gems who wander in when their rent money is due. As noted, there are some nights where there may be 60-100 girls who come through; some nights only 30-40. If you're a long time traveler the places like SJO and MDE, you'll have girls on your WhatsApp Rolodex that are only a phone call away.
