Gman looks like we are going to be there the same days. Do you fish? I am going to CR by myself and it might be safer to do with someone else.
I usually arrange a 1/2 day trip out of Quepos or Jaco. Leave about 5 AM in the water about 7:15 fish until noon or 1 nice lunch at Ccocabana sight see at coffee plantation or sights along the way back in San Jose with fresh caught sushi or filets for dinner usually cost $450 - 500 for 2 people plus lunch a few women drivers include BJ at no extra cost

    Sixpack,

If you're planning on stay their you should make some reservations soon. This place is definitely hard to get a room at the last-minute.

The credit card thing. I have one card that I specifically use for this type of activity and I keep a close eye on it. If you want to reserve the room to the best of my knowledge this is the only way you're gone to do it, short of sending some form of cash, money order etc. You can call the hotels straight and deal directly with them I find it saves money and confusion.

I have probably been to CR about 18 times in the past 5 years I've never had a problem. I've done both reservations over the Internet & phone some of them have be done through a travel agency.

These people try to get everybody involved (get paid). If you get in a taxi and say I wanted to go shopping he's going to take you somewhere where he's getting a finder's fee of the purchases. It's a game that I've experienced all over Mexico / Central America.

    Happy Hunting,

    AJ

    Ace,

    PS

Check the weather report go to the Marina as soon as possible preferably early in the morning or later in the evenings. I've tried booking through the hotels I haven't personally ben as happy. I do enjoy fishing so I know what I'm looking at once I see what I want I start negotiating prices. If it's a busy time of the year negotiations are probably not going to be too successful as slower times. If you go through the hotel it is what it is.

As stated previously hotels are preferences. I don't mind spending extra money for nice hotel. For instance if you stay in the Club Delray if you're a light sleeper you'll not get any sleep! All night long drunks and prostitutes up-and-down the hallways. For me when I'm done fucking I'm done don't bother me. I spend the extra money to get a good night's sleep.

Take a one day fishing trip, but take four change of close. Every time you catch a fish take a picture or three, hold the fish, rub your hands on your close and go change clothes. For the SO the photographs look & smell like four days of fishing. This is what we do.

IT GIVES YOU MORE JUSTIFIED FISHING TIME!

IMHO I find Flamingo nice for fishing a little more challenging for fucking. Jaco is closer to San Jose decent fishing and good fucking.

    Happy Hunting,

    AJ

There is no chica fee at the Presidente. Only one girl policy is correct, and yes they know to cover up when going to the Pres.

Booking at the Del Rey question.

I plan on heading to SJ during Memorial Day weekend. I guess I'll stay at the Del Rey. Should I book online, or should i call and book over the phone? I'm a little skeptical about giving my credit card number to a guy in Costa Rica over the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

    Thanks!

How about the Presidente any problems with bringing women up?
Yes - The Presidente charges a chica fee ($10?) has a real problem with you bringing in more than one at a time. and they are enforcing a higher dress code. short skirts/belly shirts on the girls won't cut it. Most girls know and will either bring or borow a coat etc. but beware.

Neither does the Presidente, Castillo, Amon (if you book through the casino). Morazon (if you clarify it in advance, $3 per chica if you don't) and many other hotels have zero or at least much lower chica fees than $10 per visit. He must be talking about the Holiday Inn or the Del Rey charging such fees. BTW, for how much more the HI charges for rooms over the Presidente (especially with the CRT discount) I would hope the rooms there are more than just "a little better" than the Presidente. But he is right that "Everybody's preferences are different".

There are no chica fees at the Sportman's Lodge. You must be thinking of the Del Rey.

    Fees At The Sportsmens Lodge?

Unless something has changed, the Sportsmens Lodge DOES NOT charge any chica fees. The last time I was in San Jose, I met the owner over there, and he pledged NEVER any chica fees.

Everybody's preferences are different the Presidente is a good hotel the restaurant on the ground floor is good. Personally I find the rooms a little better at the Holiday Inn, pool, gym and Internet, breakfast if you included in your package.

Be careful in the park after dark the women are not women! They will try and rob you. I'm a rather large man at 6` 6" 275 pounds personally never had a problem or an issue however one of my running buddies got took for $600 he's about 5`10" 135 pounds. Take it or leave i`m just putting it out there.

I usually go in for one night, one of my regular girls will pick me up at the airport spend one night and then she'll drive me to Jaco beach about a three-hour drive. If you're only there for four days you might not wanna go to the beach because round-trip that six hours to the nearest beach. We stay in a place called Club Del Mar a little pricey but I find it worth it, wherever you go to the beach you should make sure you have reservations. Wake up early in the morning the day I'm leaving and they'll take me straight back to the airport.

I'm really not a big fan of San Jose it's a very dirty city loaded with poverty. Import remember everything is negotiable.

Sometimes I'll just stay in the Holiday Inn walkover to CLUB DEL RAY which is only like a block away from your hotel starting around 9:30 at night that places is packed with women. Taxi rides are available to the beach also you can negotiate that I think the cheapest I had was $70. Negotiations with the women can really very depending on the players time of night how much action she may have already had how much time you're looking to spend etc. but negotiating is available especially if you taking them with you to the beach.

Every hotel that you encounter will charge you for each guest you have over so if you pick up 4 girls in one day the last time I was there two years ago it was $10 per guest so you would pay $40 for that day. If you have a regular girl the whole time you would be looking at $40 for your four-day stay

If you like a variety there's many places in San Jose and pretty much all the beaches the only one I did not find much action at was Manuel Antonio however it was very beautiful place.

Jaco beach has some nice tropical forest cable rides, all terrain 4-Wheelers and horseback riding actually felt sorry for my horse

During the day there's a little bar on the beach I forget the name it's about a half mile jog on the beach from Club Del Mar there's a lot of the action during the day.

The night life is pretty much the beetle bar there's a lot of dance clubs that I've been to it takes a little bit more effort to pull one of the locals back to your room but sometimes I'm up for the challenge of hitting the fresher meat.

    Happy Hunting,

Thanks for the pix, this helps me, too. I've never been to Oasis in all my years (started in 1990 or so) in San Jose'. Next trip I intend to rectify this. At least I have to see what it has to offer.

The taxista or tico landmark in that area that is most commonly used is the KFC on Paseo Colon. I've also had taxistas that don't even seem to understand KFC or kay efay say, so you might also need to call it Pollo de Kentucky (I swear it sometimes seems that you have to pass a dumbness test to become an SJ cabbie). This may not seem to make much sense either since there are scores of KFC's around town too, but this KFC is really a commonly referred to local landmark.

The complete directions are "cientos y cincuenta metros de norte del KFC (or Pollo de Kentucky) en Paseo Colon" or a block and a half north of the KFC (on the left). You might also need to look for a doorway with a security guy out front since the place doesn't have any sign and you could be staring right at it and not know it. I usually just get out when I see Colonel Sanders sitting on a bench and walk the rest of the way.
