I had dinner at El Balcon, next to New York bar. A decent Italian restaurant. The chefs special was fettuccini with lobster and shrimp for 16, 000 colons ($8).

I think the restaurant is called Balcon de Europa. I've been eating there since it was around the corner, closer to Chelles. It is a decent place, the staff is generally friendly, and the prices are reasonable enough.

You might also want to check your colones to dollars conversion, as 16,000 colones is about $31 and not $8.

Here's my blog for my Costa Rica trip, Xmas day till the 31st:

Just got in Xmas afternoon and all is quiet here at the SL. One chica here as far as I can see. Gonna take Zebras tip and eat some grub at Hamburguesa Factory then see who's open for bizness, NF/ZB. I'll check back later.

DAY 1

The plane was cramped, seats were unconfortable on Copas red eye flight to CR. An empty customs Dept. Was found upon entry. Johanna was working the front desk. She says she gets to take off New Years eve.

I head over to New York bar to check out Bilko playing with his instrument. You guys were rockin the house! . A drunken chica stumbles on stage and tried to steal the show. You shoulda pimped slapped her Bilko *LOL*

Del Rey is next. Typically slow for Xmas day. Seems like the bottom of the barrow chicas are left. I head back to the SL to find the place void of chicas. The plan was to go back to the DR and import one but jet lag got the best of me.

DAY 2

Headed to the News Cafe for breakfast. All good seats were occupied. Had a tico breakfast then headed back to the SL to find Paradiso-ATV tours waiting for me. I forgot I had e-mailed them before hand. Gary, the owner did not have any other appointments so he gave me the VIP treatment. Gary has relocated his ATV tours buisness to a new location. He is conducting tours on privately owned property that has fantastic trails. We went from dry rock trails to semi damp rainforest trails. The scenery was breathtaking. We broke for lunch then saddled back up for a couple of more hours of tougher terrain. This tour is a must do guys. If you book on-line its $80 for the day. I left at 10 and was dropped off at 5: 30. You may purchase freshly harvested (on the property) roasted coffee beans ($5 a pound) there is also a marmalaid factory on the premises. The maramlaids are made from CR fruit and are totally organic (no sugar).

SL was still void of chicas so I headed over to New Fantasy. NF is no longer a CRT sponser. The chica behind behind the desk siad "Our prices are cheap enough as it is" 2 other chicas chimed in said "Yeah were cheap enough"? Anyway sessioned with Gilda. A little chunky but very cute. Gave a pretty decent massage and tongue bath. $40 for the hour session.

Gotta crash early for a 6: 30AM pick up for class 4 rapids

DAY 3

Did the rafting thing today. It was suppose to be class 4 rapids. It rained like hell, all night by the Picuare river. The river became class 6 & 7 and too dangerous to run. The guide said we were going to another, class 3 river that is dam controlled. What ticks me off is they did not tell us we were going to get cheated out of 1/2 a day of riding. We went into the water at 10: 30AM and got out at 12: 30pm. No way is that a full day. They filled in teh unused time by giving us a 1 1/2 hour breakfast (were waiting for somone was the excuse. Somone never arrived) and a 1 1/2 hour lunch. I wouldn't of minded if they would of communicated the situation to us. I've been on this trip 3 other times with different companies. Most folks were newbies to CR and were asking me "Is it suppose to be this short"? After I filled them in on what was going on, no propinas exchanged hands. Exploradores Outdoors will never get my $$ again.

When I returned to the SL, I got a great massage. She can make a grown man scream. Good massage. Next, off to Zona Blue. Was lookin for Naomi, and found her. Great little spinner. What she lacks in tetas she makes up in performance. She dragged her amiga into the room and wanted to do a twosome after the deed. Too hungry, time to grub. Went to Bennihanna. The food was pretty good or maybe I was just starving from rafting. Pura Vida!

DAY 4

Chill out day. Manicure, pedicure and a massage was in order today. I cruise down to New Fantasy around noon and find the window lacking in quality. No problem, off to Zona Blue. 2 chicas in the bar area. 5's at best. Leave kinda frustrated. Head over Hamburguesa Factory and have Agreat CR cheeseburger and papas. I take a stroll down the walkway toward the Presadente Hotel and kick it on a wall by a park. I strike up a gringo espanol conversation with a little chuncky but cute chica and pretty soon were back in my room. She says she has one chico at home. I shower her with my 99 cent store stuff. Power Ranger dolls, toothbrush/paste, lighters. She was almost ready to cry. Free panocha, is the best panocha! We got a lunch date manana.

PS / Thursday 9pm, Things are picking up here at the SL. A good flow of chicas are here tonight. PURA VIDA!

DAY 5

Doin the amiga thing today. Lunch, walk around, zoo.

One piece of info I learned is about a SL regular chica Eres She has a ring on her finger and a novia now. Her novia is here now and is suppose to wisk her away to the Caymans{sp}. Best of luck to her, I guess dreams do come true.

DAY 6 LAST DAY

Hung out with my new amiga. Did the mall thing. Picked up some toys and groceries. She took me to a La Prinsessa seafood restaraunt. Excellent food for cheap. I had a whole Tilapia, butterfliedout, with all kind of seafood stuffed inside /$8. Best meal I've had in CR.

5pm here at the SL. The chica count is picking up. I count about 10 chicas here. Decorations are getting ready for the New Years party.

It's Ultimate fight night here at the SL. Standing room only. An easy 100 people here.

You folks comming down for the New Years party have a fantastic time!

I'm off to Panama for an 8 hour layover before heading home.

Hi,,,been a while since I've posted in the CR section but I've made many trips there and can say that the Colombianas in San Jose are there to make the money and go.i've made 3 trips to Colombia this year and on their home turf it is a big difference between the mercenary,hard core putas that frequent the Del Rey.I've met some awesome paisas ,,total gfe's,but for that you need to go to the motherland........mule

Which you can see in the vid also if you have ever talked with her. You know its her 100%. She's not a great provider but is somewhat of a go getter.

There are rumors that the Colombianas at the Del Rey are part of some Colombian organized crime ring. They supposedly pay a fee to be smuggled into the country by some coyotes and then have to work off the cost. They live together with their fellow Colombianas in small groups both to save money but also so the people organizing it can keep tabs on them and those same people try to enforce how much they charge or how much they have to bring back each night. Again this may also just be rumors, but do a search on the Trata Blanca and just see what comes up. It can be very disturbing.

i dont have any facts to back this story up....but on my last trip i was at the sportmens and there were 3 of us sitting and watching football and we started swapping stories of the ticas we had been with on this trip. And this guy (dont recall his name) starts with some great tales and seem to be very hip on the san jose sceen....any way we start talking about colombians, and not sure if anyone knows this girl but she in in the delray everynite , she wears a black backless dress and she a hairdo that looks like something out of the 60"s and he tells me she is the "boss" of about 10 colombians and they all answer to her and she keeps tabs on all of them. So i dont think this guy is a bullshiter , so i watch her in action the next few days of my trip...sure enough i never see her go with anyone and she just walks around and around checking on her girls....i do see some of the older men hitting on her ...but i never see anyone pull the tigger on her.
I dont think she is good looking and not my type but i am sure she has some great stories to tell, and the way she works that floor she must be getting a cut from each girl...again i have no facts but after that guy gave me the heads up on her ....i feel like he knows what he is talking about !!!

Their is no other basis. The ones I encounter do exactally that.

I posted my first report here about Natalia, a sexy, but easily violent DR columbian that was lackluster at best the first time and in a drunken stupor, hired her a second time where disaster ensued. She actually told my tico friend "that's how we treat gringos".

To do a bit of a follow-up on that story, I have lived and worked here for a year now and I frequently go to the DR and on occasion, friends and co-workers drag me to KL [long story, read back to my earlier report so I don't bore the regulars] and some of the regulars know me. Last week I was there and there was a columbian girl who knew me and was trying to make sure I was gonna take her home. Thru out the course of dinner, a tica I also frequent approached me, sat down and went right into "GFE" mode. Sharing my fries, lighting my cigarettes, acting like we were a couple for years. Long story short, she was the one who came back home. Now, she's not a knockout as her columbian counterpart, but she goes the extra mile. BBCIMBJ, various positions, left her cell phone OFF! , gave me a great massage AFTER sex and wound up staying the night. She did the little things. Tried to make the bed and clean up messes made the night before. Had to stop her or my maid would have just watched TV all day and smoked my cigarettes =P Only dissapointment was she had to bolt before breakfast to make sure her kid got to school.

On top of that, she doesn't try to soak me for a full see-note. She never asks up front. Do I hook her up? Hell yeah. Will I have her again? Definatly.

I have a different theory: alot of first time mongers and old doods [I should be careful saying that, I'm on the cusp of being one] see these columbian hotties and pay top dollar for what in essence is about 24 minutes of sex they would never get in real life [myself included] and the columbian girls capatalize on that. [probably a few others as well, but predominantly, columbianas]

And yes, nicas are bad too. They want the money but do not want to work or preform for it. Almost like a gringa! ; )

I lable them like a IBM computer. The least ammount of computer for the maximum ammount of money.

But that said, lets enjoy what we got. But at a reasonable price and some quality behind it.

"With all do respect", before we make excuses for Colombian women, understand that, of course, these are all generalizations but the same argument about "Colombian women 'living' in another country, other than their own or how, after all, things were bad enough in their own country that they had to flee it for economic purposes, etc." could just as easily be applied to other working women in CR from Nicaragua, Dom. Rep., Panama etc. and yet for some reason women from those countries haven't developed the same reputation for being ruthless "dollar worshipers" & "clock watchers." Why is that? There must be some other basis for that ruthless Colombian reputation.

Sure, "they're surviving and struggling like all other sex workers in a full, blown-out, legalized forum (C.R.) where prostitution is legal throughout the country. In other words, it's a competitive business." Sound the violins. My heart bleeds. SO WHAT? The point is that they operate in the same competitive climate as every other working girl in CR and yet somehow they've managed to develop this reputation for being cold and ruthless well beyond girls from any other nationality. You'll excuse me if I don't feel sorry for them. Something else must be behind it.

My own theory is that 30 years of civil war, drug cartels with its attendant violence, kidnappings, paramilitary hit squads, assasination of police and judicial officials etc. have innured many Colombians to violence making them more prone to violence in general than most other nationalities. Columbia has the highest murder rate in the world (about 12-13 times the rate in the US or CR) and other types of crime are similarly high. Of course not all Colombians are killers, but I think it still says a lot about the Colombian general temperment.

Granted non-working colombianas back in Colombia may be very different than the select few colombianas who wind up working in CR at the BM, but Qncterra wasn't talking about them. HE was talking about columbianas (sic) in SJO. And it very well may true that they're "very passionate, sexual and sexy" and "the most gorgeous group of women in the world" (equally all generalizations) but just remember you gotta take the bad with the good.

I think any supposed Tica jealousy of their "gorgeousness" such as you implied has little if anything to do with the attitudes WE have about the Colombianas. First of all, these are attitudes that we as MONGERS have about them completely independently of what the Ticas might think. For us their "gorgeousness" is not a threat but their one major plus. Our problem is all about their attitudes. And the same is probably also true on the Tica's view of Colombianas although again probably for somewhat different reasons. If anything Ticas should love Colombianas because they help drive up prices. The reason why you hear Ticas talk down about them is because of their aggressive manner.

What I have heard is that the Colombianas try, or at least tried at some point, to enforce a price floor below which the other chicas are not supposed to go and can be very threatening if they hear of any chica agreeing to a price below that. This is why you always hear the Cien asking price and why some chicas won't go lower. Of course, in economics when you try to artificially raise prices that way it causes unemployment or at least under employment (which is one of the valid arguments against raising the minimum wage in this country). Most chicas will lower their price until the point that demand once again equals supply rather than sitting around all night sticking to a price that makes no sense, but they can get a lot of grief from their Colombiana "sisters" if they find out. Thats one good reason to be quiet and discrete while negotiating at the BM. If the others don't hear what you both agree to, you're more likely to get them to agree to a lower price ("it'll be just our little secret").

"If you never hear them (Ticas) talk down about Nicaraguense, or Salvadorenas, etc.... "you definitely aren't listening close enough. There is a HUGE amount of discrimination in CR against Nicaraguans, mainly because the have so many more illegal Nicaraguan immigrants than those from Colombia (much like our mexicanos here in the US). The difference is that Nicaraguans are seen as driving down the local wages (and cause crime, strain social services, etc. and cause every other social problem they can think of blaming on them). The Colombians in CR are blamed for some of that too but much more on the violent crime and drug side of the equation than on wages and unemployment.
