Guys, new to CR but obviously not new to mongering. I have read the forum quite thoroughly but I still need some pointed help. I am going to be in SJ for one night with three of my buddies. Is it practical to do DelRay, Zona Blue and Tango India in one night? If so, what order would you visit these places in? I picked these because I am looking to sample the top rated in each category (take out, MP and strip club) but I would love to hear if there are alternates.

BTW, it is not practical for me to do takeout from DR to my hotel near airport. Are there short term rooms in DR? May sound like a stupid question but I could not tell from the posts I read.

funny. i have actually hit all three of them! karolina and her friend one night, and her sister on another night. haven't been to cr in months, so i have not seen her in a while. i definitely know why you want to find her!

Archie, there is nothing inherently wrong with generalizations. It shouldn't even needed to be said that is what they are. After all, does anyone really expect someone to lay it out like "this girl gets this much or that girl gets that much". Hell, even that wouldn't be possible since one provider might agree to one amount with one guy on one day and a different amount with someone else on another. What is important is how useful those generalizations are in guiding our actions. How often do they hold true. I might quibble about some of your exact amounts, but overall, IME, your take here is pretty fair and accurate. Naturally, in different areas, the generalizations work better than others and there are ALWAYS at least some exceptions (for example, obviously one MIGHT find a good experience with a SW or one MIGHT find a Colombiana 10 who agrees to less than cien, but the odds are certainly stacked heavily against it). The thing is, IMHO, we play a numbers game. Most of us have limited time and/or money. We want to get the most for the least. And using generalizations, at least the more valid ones, can be a very useful way of increasing our odds of striking the winners and avoiding the duds. So, there is no need for you to make apologies for your statement (or at least not to me).

Why am I not surprised you chimed in on the other Member#'s behalf? I'm still not 100% convinced that you "2" aren't really just the same guy posting under different handles. You never seem to appear here other than to support what the "other Member" just said, which along with your similarity in handles makes your own posts seem very suspect to me. At the very least, your dog-like support of everything the "other member" posts removes any credibility you might have. So why should anyone really believe anything YOU post or put any stock in it? Thirdly, if you're not the rare exception then show me all the guys other than you and your clone who have ever recommended picking up SW's in San Jose (the posts were specifically about SW's NOT "many types of girls"). I won't bother to look up all the other guys who have essentially said what I just repeated, but I could. Just since my post, 2 guys have come out to back me up, including Archie who has disagreed with me on other issues but whom I still respect. In fact, he went so far as to estimate that 80% of the SW's in SJ are TV's. Sure, you may get lucky with some tramp you pick up off the street, but you're taking a much larger chance with one of them than you would with one that is allowed into one of the bars. And who do you have to back you up other than your clone, who called me a "hIpocrite" but hasn't yet disputed what I said about SW's? What does all that tell you?

And finally, no one here is much impressed with your CLAIMED ability to get bargain prices in the Del Rey or even freebies out on the streets, at least I'm not. The question here was posted by a NEWBIE, not a "suave local expert" like you purport to be, and about STANDARD prices on STREETWALKERS not regular girls on the street. It seemed pretty clear to me that he was thinking about women (presumably the ones that are REAL women) who stand on street corners waiting to get picked up or even call out to potential tricks. In my mind, that is nowhere near the same thing as non-pros who can be enticed to give it away for free or semi-pros who, while not averse to making a little extra money, aren't obviously out on the street for that purpose but are just going about their regular business. But perhaps you're the type of guy who views all chicas that happen to be out on the street as potential *****s.

How many newbies, probably with very limited spanish skills, lacking in any basic experience with the local culture or feel for the local scene, and probably lacking in the time or patience to "turn" a non-pro are going to be able to secure safe and economical bargains like the ones you suggest. Again it seems pretty clear, to me at least, this guy didn't have taking the time to "sweet-talk" a local chica to go back to his room in mind so much as going out on the street and quickly picking up a chica who obviously requires zero work because that is expressly what she is out there for.

I understand where he is coming from. There ARE other places throughout the world where SW's are a major venue for international mongers to look for action (and in other places it is escorts, casas, termas, nightclubs etc. or even "picking up" local girls). Each place is different. By comparison, except for a very small minority of bottom-feeders SJ decidedly does NOT have the same sort of SW scene.

Incidentally, while I've disagreed with Archie (and others at times), I can readily appreciate different points of view on many topics. One can disagree with out being disagreeable. I'd WELCOME the opportunity to sit down with guys like that at ANY time and debate the finer points of this hobby or travel in general. I'll even buy the first round of drinks. This situation is entirely different. There are divergent views on the subject of street security and I readily recognize that I'm in a small but not insignificant minority (as has been backed up by guys like Dodger et al). This last post of mine about prices was DELIBERATELY restricted to areas where I really didn't expect any disagreement. 2666's reaction was typical and I should have expected if anyone would disagree it would be him. Don't expect any kumbaya moments between me and him. If I ever see him in the BM, I'll walk the other way before I'd ever sit down and shared drinks with such a dickhead. Our complete disdain for each other is entirely mutual.

In fact, up until now, I can only vaguely recall reading ONE guy advocate exploring the street scene in SJ. Most guys these days seem to advocate the exact opposite, to not even go out on the streets after dark whether to shop for a SW or for any other reason. Unfortunately for the readers of this post your limited experience in actually being part of the "scene" distorts the truth.

That is... I am not a rare exception...there are many of us who meet many types of girls on the street and in the parks ....some in the morning, some in the afternoon and some in the evening for various types of encounters and have wonderful experiences...like it or not, believe it or not... it's true

Your sampling may be accurate for the group you are familiar with or have knowledge of but your conclusions regarding the street scene are absolutely wrong, misleading and incomplete.

It's a whole other subject as to what streets to search and what parks to frequent and when .....and how difficult it might be for the occasional traveler or weekender but the "scene" does exist and in fact I'm on my way now to see if I can land a nooner from the Parque de Cultura

Its a shame that the 2 members that offer the most to this site member 2666 with all his photos and prolijo with his 4to 5 posts every week. Since I know both of you. I would say "experts"on the sceen in san jose. I just hate to see the name calling and calling out of each other. I have tried to get the 2 of you together for a day in san jose as you are both very likeable guys and have alot of passion for san jose and its people. But what happens (seen it on other boards) that when people fight they either stop posting (which I hope dosnt happen) or they become friends.

OK, I don't think I can answer Rodeo's question without giving my judgment, so I'll just give my judgment and hope nobody's too critical of my answer. Then I can come back and look to all the other helpful posters who provided their own answers to Rodeo's question, surely there will be a lot of detailed and helpful answers given by that point. So far I've only seen one. We can then compare......or not.

Rodeo, I suggest you forget the street. It's not really a vibrant scene in SJ, and what is out there is about 80% transvestite. It's just not "the thing" in SJ. It's similarly scarce with the bar/club scene. You can find places some people call bars or clubs with girls, but compared to the Del Rey and Key Largo, it's just small time stuff and it's not really representative of the scene in SJ. Strip clubs are generally not worth it price-wise unless you know exactly which one to go to.

So if you're trying to put your finger on the pulse of what the scene is like in SJ, you need to know the score at the Del Rey, and the Massage Parlors. That is 80-90% of the action in SJ.

MP:
Tico/low end places range commonly from $20-30, popular Gringo hangouts are $40-$50. Tips at the popular places commonly run $0-$10, but $20 for rock star girls with the PSE.

DR:
Rock Star Columbianas want more than Cien, and they get it. But there are few of those. Everyone else (95%) wants Cien. Popular girls will be firm and will get it. The rest will negotiate either extra services/time and keep you at Cien, or will go for less ($50-$75) for the straight hour. Afternoons are a little cheaper, girls commonly at $60. But there are some fuglies floating around and $30 is not unrealistic. But seriously, why bother?

There you go, that's the layout of the scene in SJ in about 10 sentences. Could I have possibly generalized any more? Could I have said anything else to start a fight?
