The Del Rey sucks shit because: it has a chica fee; it is noisy; it is overpriced; the neighborhood is even seedier than where Dunn Inn, Sportsman's, La Amistad, etc. are; the bartenders give poor service and cheat you; many of the women are unattractive; and many of the women are very shark-like, particularly the dominicanas.

Dude, just stay at the Del Rey or the Sleep Inn. That's ground zero. You won't regret it. Any slight price premium is more than made up for by the convenience of being at the center of the action. See my post from a few weeks ago. Decent hotel rooms at HDR start at $90, and Sleep Inn probably for slightly less. Its not like you are emptying your bank account at the Hilton. Guarantee companion friendly. And you'll never need a taxi except to go to and from the airport. Those little $3-4 dollar taxi rides add up to the point where it doesn't make sense to stay anywhere else.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country and San Jose is a great city with so much to offer. Safe to boot!! Although I like going to HDR to socialize and sometimes take back to my room, I am disappointed that it's so mechanical. Meaning, it's cookie cutter sex.
