San Jose Trip Report: June 29th thru July 3rd, 2018.
Some background information: I have travelled to the Dominican Republic six times in the last 6 years for much needed holidays with beautiful ladies and sunny climates. Four of those six occasions have been travelling to Black Beards (BB) in Puerto Plata and two of those occasions have been to the former Tropical Adult Vacation (TAV) in Boca Chica. I enjoy the lovely chicas that are available on premises at BB, but I found that having the ladies so ever-present on property was a bit of a drag after a while. Mind you, its nice to have attention from a model-gorgeous lady, but I can usually only pop once, maybe twice on a good day, so it becomes frustrating for both parties after a while when you can't consummate a deal frequently. Plus, the party atmosphere at BB is a bit much for me in my late 50's. I like a heavy dose of "chilling-out" between sessions. The Crow's Nest Disco is fun once a week max.
The former TAV was a different animal altogether, marketing the girlfriend experience. My experiences ran from great to horrible with the girls and bad to gross for the rooms and facilities at TAV. In short, I have been ready for a new destination that provided shorter travel time than the DR, more upscale facilities with chicas nearby, but not on premises.
I did some research on my own and through ISG, relying heavily on fellow hobbyists such as Geolopes, to guide me towards a better destination. It seemed that Costa Rica was the most affordable and realistic given my budget. I tailored a trip to San Jose, Costa Rica, staying at Hotel Castillo (the sister property to La Amistad), which is a short walk to the Sportsman's Lounge and other hobbyist destinations. It is a remodeled property that I rank among the nicest I have ever patronized. It serves great food, has reasonable rates on classy and spacious rooms, and is very noise-free. Chica friendly, but no chicas on-hand to take to your room. Get the all-inclusive deal for $10/ day extra. It's a no-brainer.
Friday, June 29th: Day 1.
This time of year is the rainy season in Costa Rica, so afternoon showers are the norm and the temperature ranges from the upper 70's in the daytime to the mid 60's at night. Perfect really, but you should probably bring a light rain parka of some sort. When I arrived at the airport in San Jose at about 3 pm I was offered a cab by a nice young lady cabbie. On the way to the hotel I determined she had great English skills and a good command of the streets so I hired her for Sunday at 10 pm To take me on a tour of the city for 6 hours. We agreed on a fair price for her and re-confirmed the time on Sunday with me taking her business card. More about this soon.
Once at the Castillo, Ernesto, the bartender recommended a young lady by the name of Samantha for my first night's activities. He even had some great pics of her and she looked like my type. I eventually met her at The Sportsman's Lodge later that evening. She was all that and more (a solid 8. 5) with a tight 4'10" body and bubble booty. Call another cabbie and do my shopping and tour for half the price anyway, but the point for mentioning all of this regarding appointments with Costa Ricans is this: As a rule, they don't seem to give a fuck. It's best to work things out on a day-to-day basis and not think you are gaining an advantage by making appointments. During my shopping I bought a local unlocked phone and SIM Card. Got it all activated and WhatsApp downloaded. This pays huge dividends. Get a local phone with enough minutes to cover your vacation. Collect numbers to put yourself in control when meeting working girls. You can evaluate the best of the best and not worried about missed appointments if you have a team of working girls phone numbers in your local phone contacts.
Anyhow, to the interesting stuff. Another hobbyist and I from the Castillo decide to walk down to Del Rey and hit some other places along the way and back. Here is a summary.
Taormino: Two working girls on premises. I give them each a 7 but didn't care enough to go beyond a brief up-and-down. The casino was busy with patrons. No other working girls. Sterile, Americanized place. Seen it all before and more in Las Vegas.

Even in the sketchy areas with druggies and dark streets, it was clean, clean, clean in comparison to the DR. I really was amazed at how modern overall CR is and how clean they keep even their most impoverished areas of the city.

The quality has dropped, prices for everyday things are on par with the US, and for the life of me, I cannot understand how people want to come here after going to Colombia regularly. Lleras in MDE I know is very touristy, but it's still cheaper than SJO, has restaurants that simply do not compare with here in San Jose, and the overall vibe is just WAY more lively I think.
I will say that Del Rey, being 24 x7, and San Jose being pretty friendly / small. There is an appeal to that. But the instant I hear the "$100 or nothing" at 1 am, and just the overall unfriendly nature of the girls here, I sober up pretty fast and find myself in constant on-guard mode. It's pretty irritating, but that's life I guess. In 5+years and 20 trips to Medellin. The del Rey type of place just doesn't exist. In MDE there is: the mansion (good), a ton of strip clubs of all quality (great), Lleras (great) and the daytime parlors (great) -- In San Jose, it's 10 am to 7 pm parlors, strip clubs, and Del Rey. I cannot explain it, but knowing that I can walk in a bar at 2 am, an actual large (non-strip-club) bar / casino, and still see a bunch of girls. That is something Del Rey provides that few cities (including MDE) can.
I realize the above might seem a bit negative, but I'm trying to be obective. And regardless of my preference, I will probably come back to San Jose each year or two. Driving to the beach in 2 hours, and doing ATV tours, and just the fact that I've been coming for so many years. Part of this place still feels like home.

1. Key Largo appears to have closed. They haven't been open at all, and say they are renovating. Who knows what that means.
2. Zona (previously Zona Blue, Then Havana, then Zona II, then whatever) and the other sports place next door have now merged owners and its still technically 2 places but connected inside via a small hallway. More girls than before, but roughly similar to about 2-3 years ago.
3. New Fantasy has closed. Not sure what all those 2's and 3's will do for work now.
4. Idem is still open as is one of the two places directly across the street. Exactly the same. 7 girls, 5-7's.
5. 360 is still open. Nothing to report on. 5 girls, 4-6's.
6. Going to try Monica's, not sure if it's still open.
7. Tengo India (yes, I know it's pricey) is still kicking, girls are hot as normal. 5's to 9's and there was (my version) of a 10 there.

The reality is without them the entire scene is even below Tijuana standards (talent-wise). It was disheartening, and I was super-stoked to somehow find girls of that quality.... So yes, it's a buyer's market in terms of overall numbers. But a sad seller's market in terms of top-shelf talent!

Based on my research thus far on here and another board, I am leaning toward Hotel El Castillo for a 2 week visit in August or September.
Okay, the Morazan has always been my favorite hotel because it's cheap, right in the heart of the gulch, and the people have always been nice. And let's not forget our favorite: Ricky Ricardo, the World's Greatest Bell Boy! LOL.
So okay I was told the new owners took it over about 8 months ago and have renovated. New tv's, new curtains and a few other things here and there. "That's nice" I thought.
I called earlier in the week to make my reservation and the girl who answered the phone said there were plenty of rooms for Thur and Fri and I didn't need one. I thought that seemed odd because I've often seen it full on Fri's in the past so I said "Well let me make a reservation anyway. ".

On 2nd thought I decided to go ahead and make one anyway, via expedia. Good thing I did because the place WAS FULL and I might not have gotten a room had I not made my reservation via Expedia. Strike one. Some idiot desk clerk who was apparently too lazy to make a reservation for me!
So I showed up around noon on Thur and check in technically isn't until 3 pm but they usually accommodate me and get me in by 1 or so. I had asked for an interior room because they're quieter and they said they'd try so he said to come back in an hour or so.
I did and they checked me in to a room on the 4th floor, NOT an interior room but I didn't complain, I just wanted to lay down for a while, I was tired from the long trip in to San Jose.
Well as soon as Ricky walked out, I noticed the room stunk from sewage. I went down to the desk and the guy said "Oh. Okay, yeah sometimes it does. But you'll have to wait a while for another room. Here, go up and check this one and he gave me a key and I went up but the new room was still dirty but at least did not stink.
The maid was there and looked at me like what are you doing, didn't you just check into the other room?" I told her it stunk and she went in and said it didn't. I said "Well then there's something wrong with your nose because it definitely does smell and I showed her it was coming from the toilet but the toilet was clean, it was the sewer. She said no and was obviously pissed because I didn't want to take the room.
I said "Well the guy downstairs said yes it does sometimes smell and no I don't want to smell sewer. " I was actually very nice to her but she was starting to make me mad insisting it didn't smell when it obviously did.
In fact soon her manager came up and checked and she confirmed that it smelled and said they'd get me the other room soon.
Long story short it took about 45 min for the maid to get my new room clean because instead of jumping ahead down the line to my room she just went down the hall in order while I sat by the elevator so tired I could barely sit up! WTF?! All she had to do was clean my new room first, but noooooo!
So: yes they renovated the rooms to some degree but.
-the faucet still dripped.
-the lamp had loose wiring to the point it made me think it might catch on fire, and.
-the door key-card didn't work right.
I complained about the key because I didn't want to come up with my girls and have trouble getting into my room at night when there's no staff around to fix it. They said they'd send someone up but never did. Surprise surprise.
I also.
-didn't get a floor towel, and.
-there was no hot water the next morning when I wanted to shower.
Okay so the next day I asked for a floor towel and she gave me one but when I came back I noticed.
-there was no hand towel this time.
I usually get the little chubby maid and she's great but this one really sucked at her job.
I gave her a good tip the first day anyway because I wanted an extra bath towel in case I brought 2 girls back (which I did). She said she'd give me one but I had to wait for some reason. Well.
-she never did bring it so I was short a towel that night.
Meanwhile when I brought back my 2 girls the guy at the desk told me I'd have to pay $25 extra for the extra girl. I said "What? I've been coming here 25 years and never been charged for an extra girl!" New owner, new policy he says. I said I'd pay it for now but would talk to him later.
After the girls left (see my report on that below) I asked him if they could waive the $25 extra charge because I never have been charged that and after all since the room is only $50 a night.
-how do they figure $25 for only one extra girl for one hour, and hell I couldn't even get an extra towel so where is the justification for more money for an extra girl? Where is the added expense?
He said I could take it up with the manager tomorrow so I said I would do that.
On check out the girl at the desk had printed out the fine print policy which did state there was a $25 extra charge but what good is that written policy if they don't tell you that or even show you the paper when you check in?
I said that I didn't mind paying a reasonable extra fee but $25 extra is a gouge and I don't like being gouged. I'm sure someone here will say I'm being too uptight and complaining too much but I disagree. I think it's just unreasonable to charge $25 for one extra guest for one dammed hour! And not even an extra towel.
So while in spite of the lack of towels, the refusal to fix my door key, the lousy lamp, no good place to charge my phone, no hot water in the morning. And now no fruit with breakfast either (now THAT's cutting corners! Fruit is cheap in Costa Rica! I would still stay at the Morazan but for the $25 extra charge. 3 somes are my thing and so that basically increases my room rent 50%! I think $10 extra would be fair.
So. I will now probably go to a different hotel even if it's the same or more money just out of not wanting to be gouged that way.
