3) SL is mostly older guys. In their 60's, which is okay but I like more of a mixed crowd.
4) SL hand picks the girls which to me is too limiting; I like the variety and mass quantity of the Del Rey.
5) SL is too much like a sports bar (thus the name I guess).
6) SL is a place you can't walk to and from like the Del Rey is and the taxi drivers overcharge especially at night.
I've never stayed at the sportsman. I go there just to check out the girl's and every time I'm there, I'm in a rush to get back to the Delrey. Yes! The SL is that bad! YMMV.

I'm not sure but I don't see the Holiday Inn as being all that busy most of the time. So why compete with that?
Hopefully Key Largo will take up the slack! Back in the day, it was the only game in town, and things were just fine over there. BUT.
Does anyone else think that KL goes way overboard on the super-LOUD music? Jeez, that place gives me a headache!
IF they take up the slack of the DR being shut down to mongering, (IF it is shut down, that is), I hope to god the Key Largo will stop playing that head-splittingly loud music over there, at least in ONE of the bars.
Problem is they have the live band in the middle so that's bad enough. But then that other super loud room in the entrance area at the rear. It's insanely loud and obnoxious.
I'd like to petition the management there to consider turning the music volume down! Surely I'm not the only one who finds it unbearable!?
It's one thing to sell the Delrey and simply just change ownership, it's a whole another thing to sell it and transform it to a family friendly hotel. Not going to happen. There will be zero revenue coming in. Zero! The pink pussy palace will forever be known as the pink pussy palace.
The booze and the chicas is what keeps the customers constantly going there. This situation reminds me of Club Help In Rio de Janeiro. The owners sold the building that Help was located in. Thus putting a lot of people there out of work. It changed Copacabana forever. No more tourists!
The incomprehensible thinking in some of these business owner's mind is mind boggling! Key Largo I do believe can and will pick up the slack. The Delmar restaurant will be shut down to make room for the girls and the monger's.
The music in Key Largo sucks ass!! I'm a young guy and whenever I walk thru there I have both my hands covering both my ears! LOL! The live band is horrible!! The worst band I've ever seen!

Will there be slack and will Key Largo take it up?

I go to a place once, and if I like it, I return. CR is not one of those places.
Thanks again for you honesty.

We are all entitled to our opinions. San Jose is not as bad as some of you may think. I've been to Costa Rica nearly 20 times. I live in Florida and the flight on spirit airlines is dirt cheap. The HDR is legendary. It will never be a family hotel in my view. It will always be known as the pink pussy palace. I've had incredible experiences in HDR with some of the most beautiful ticas on the planet!
Have met countless monger's who I'm still close with til this very day at HDR. I personally know the entire staff and have always been treated good. The one complaint I have is the charging to take a chica up to your room. Absolutely ridiculous.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country with beautiful people. The Ticas are some of the best in bed that I've ever experienced.

There have been rumors for years that the HDR was for sale, but I can't for the life of me see how this becomes a "family" destination. I've always thought it would be great if they put a pool in for both the Gringos and the "ladies". To that end, they could tear down the Key Largo and put a pool in there, ha ha. I don't doubt though, that the revenue at the HDR has been going down year after year (much like the quality of girls). But, I plan to ride the HDR to the very end.

I first heard this rumor around a couple of months ago but its gaining steam. Initially the plan was to make this conversion after their next annual super bowl party in 2018 but now this has supposedly changed. Quite a few girls who work there have told me that the change will now be effective after Halloween this year. Not sure if others can chime in or have heard anything related to this. The girls say that after these supposed changes take effect then only the Key Largo across the street will allow the girls to work their stuff. Dunno.

Yes, there were a ton, pun attended, of fat gringos in the SL. All of the girls wanted 100 US.
I'm glad that I experienced the place. I enjoyed the white water rafting more than my stay at the SL; sad huh?
Thanks again for your honest opinion of the country; in complete agreement!

I am glad you got helped. The staff at the Lodge go out of their way to help the guests. The setup is good at the Lodge. Hit the front or back bar when you want, play pool, watch games and the bar daily special food is very delicious and also cheap. Talk to girls and most are not pushy for lady drinks. It's up to you. Once you have agreed your deeds for a price, take the girl (s) to your room and take your alcohol with you. Return afterwards to the bar and do what ever you. The rooms are cleaned daily. There is also a some weights and weight machines plus cardio bicycles if you feel like exercising. Walk to the downtown is short. Taxi from airport is $30.00 and back to airport is $25.00. Free hot breakfast from 8. 00 AM and otherwise breads / fruits only from 5. 00 AM. The City Bus tour is $70.00. Worth it as I saw a lot and learnt a lot about Costa Rica and San Jose. Includes lunch. Hotel has other tours too.
When I sent to Dominical after 4 days, the Lodge let me keep my suitcase in their storage for no charge as I was coming back after visiting Dominical.
Enjoy your stay.
